I mean, I very much doubt this will get anywhere in the parliament but nearly 2 mil people signed it in just over 24 hours 😬

Yet after the result of a non legally binding referendum, we are all told "you lost, get over it".

Moonlightstars · 25/11/2024 08:49

It's sadly demonstrates that people are a bit thick and don't understand how democracy works. Loads of the people signing it aren't even in or from the UK it's just all a bit embarrassing.

Littlemissgobby · 25/11/2024 08:49

Actually when you look it has been set by the far right who have got a lot of noise but it’s a minority when you look at who has signed it’s been a lot of accounts not in Britain there is a lot of bot accounts that have signed this.
do you realise it’s 6 million people signed a petition to get us back to do a second referendum but the government ignored that do you also realise there was other petitions with much more people on? No we’re not going to have another election it’s bullshit and it’s been signed and talked about on Twitter by the far right? Who is in Bolden now by Elon Musk.

MrsKwazi · 25/11/2024 08:50

Well it’s not surprising is it? Is there a group of people that Labour has NOT pissed off yet?

Won’t get anywhere, obv.

BarbaraHoward · 25/11/2024 08:50

Actually, they haven’t annoyed me and quite frankly the conservatives did far fucking worse under the last 14 years. I’m really sorry but what’s really annoying me it’s so many people are not giving labour a chance I’ve not even had a full year yet they are trying to clean up the mess from the conservatives

Embarrassing for what that it’s full of a lot of bot accounts or that there’s a loud voice from the people I reform follow the money Elon Musk is retweeting et cetera and don’t forget we now have an information war with the likes of Russia who are trying to target democracy

MiraculousLadybug · 25/11/2024 08:53

there is a lot of bot accounts that have signed this.
If you have some proof of this you'd better let UK Parliament know that their petition system is flawed.
If you don't, you're just trying to polarise this into left vs right.

User37482 · 25/11/2024 08:55

It’s pointless but they aren’t throwing paint on pictures, scaring Jewish people or lying down in the middle in the road stopping people from going about their business. So crack on imo.

In a democracy people are using a peaceful means to express their dissatisfaction without harassing anyone, without rioting and without being a bloody great nuisance to anyone. So fine, I doubt anyone believes they are going to get a general election but it’ll be bloody amusing to watch a debate on this,

I have seen the proof online. You can see who is signing it and it’s not from Britain. There is people that have signed it from different parts of the world and it’s definitely not Britain. I do not believe these are British people in far flung places either

Was there a debate when the 6 million people voted for a second referendum to overturn Brexit? There is not going to be a debate on this at all

x2boys · 25/11/2024 08:57

I'm not a labour voter, but who do these people think will get in ?
The Conservative party was decimated in the last general election and are still licking their wounds from it
Do they imagine we will get some kind of cobbled together coalition party?

monkeysox · 25/11/2024 08:58

Same type of muppets that attacked in USA when they didn't like the result of the election.

It’s embarrassing that 2 million people don’t understand how our political system works….

I took these screen shots yesterday. Make of them what you will. I was roundly dismissed (small numbers! VPNs!) but I'd say there are definitely some bots at work.

But it doesn't matter really. At best the petition will be debated, but even that might not happen.

They think that Nigel Farage will be able to take over as PM 🤣

The petition will definitely not be debated did the petition that had 6 million votes on for a second referendum to join the EU get debated? No it did not they will not debate this so don’t worry

kazzieB · 25/11/2024 09:03

FFS. This is as bad as the Daily Mail blaming the month-old Labour government for the Farage Riots in July. It clearly misses the point of how our system of government works. They'd be as well petitioning Parliament to call for another Presidential election in the US on the grounds of the recent result being totally bonkers.

Beezknees · 25/11/2024 09:04

It's ridiculous and shouldn't even be entertained.

ExtraOnions · 25/11/2024 09:05

a heady mix of right-wing snowflakes who can’t get over loosing, Russian Bots, Elon Musk fans, and angry landowners

Maybe everyone who signed it can go live in their own Utopia …

Notonthestairs · 25/11/2024 09:06

It's not intended to force an election. Any debate will take place in a committee room and will last the length of a cuppa.

But those amplifying the petition aren't so stupid as to expect this to have any impact on the government whatsoever.

It's a confected talking point for right wing media.

Nobody sensible expects this to trigger another election.

Like British Antarctic Territory and S Georgia and S Sandwich Islands?

Signatures have come from there

Of course the petition system is flawed. That’s why it’s only for petitions, not for voting. Anyone can sign as many times as they like just by using a different email address. It’s like the X Factor, and it’s very easy for a government to turn round and say, ‘well, 62 million didn’t sign the petition so we must be doing something right’.

It's not the first time that a petition calling for a GE secured a debate. Here is this one from 2022 for your amusement whilst you're waiting:
