I mean, I very much doubt this will get anywhere in the parliament but nearly 2 mil people signed it in just over 24 hours 😬

I know, it's ridiculous! 😅 Of course we're not going to have another general election when we've just had one!

louddumpernoise · 25/11/2024 09:10

MiraculousLadybug · 25/11/2024 08:53

there is a lot of bot accounts that have signed this.
If you have some proof of this you'd better let UK Parliament know that their petition system is flawed.
If you don't, you're just trying to polarise this into left vs right.

There was a link to this on another thread, loads of people from across the globe signed, inc from uninhabitable islands in the South Atlantic.

I just signed that petition twice, using to different email addresses... its not rocket science... its totally insecure and highlights how out of date UK Govt IT is.

Moonlightstars · 25/11/2024 08:49

It's sadly demonstrates that people are a bit thick and don't understand how democracy works. Loads of the people signing it aren't even in or from the UK it's just all a bit embarrassing.

😂😂😂 so true

DuncinToffee · 25/11/2024 09:11

Debate?

A few MP's in a committee room having a 5 minute chat about it

KnittedCardi · 25/11/2024 09:12

Of course the petition won't get anywhere. Its not unusual for governments to collapse soon after elections though. Europe is a good example. We have a mindset in this country that you have to stick with what you get, which doesn't seem to apply elsewhere. Surely that's democracy??

Losingthetimber · 25/11/2024 09:16

Littlemissgobby · 25/11/2024 08:49

Actually when you look it has been set by the far right who have got a lot of noise but it’s a minority when you look at who has signed it’s been a lot of accounts not in Britain there is a lot of bot accounts that have signed this.
do you realise it’s 6 million people signed a petition to get us back to do a second referendum but the government ignored that do you also realise there was other petitions with much more people on? No we’re not going to have another election it’s bullshit and it’s been signed and talked about on Twitter by the far right? Who is in Bolden now by Elon Musk.

How can you see this level of detail? On the map it shows th4 filters of having a uk postcode work and it’s all British?

Oh you took it from twitter 😂

Well it’s not surprising is it? Is there a group of people that Labour has NOT pissed off yet?

Won’t get anywhere, obv.

They haven’t annoyed me. Or my circle of friends that discuss politics for that matter. I’m extremely relieved that they are in power and the misery of the tories is over. ‘The people’ did vote for Labour you know, so as pissed off as you are, you’re outnumbered.

They are coalitions though, we generally speaking don't have that problem but if you want a PR system, by all means campaign for it.

This country needs stability, its whats been lacking since 2016, several GE's PMs Chancellors & numerous other ministerial changes.

Anyway, it seems more than probable this petition is being filled out by less than genuine "people" ... coming hard on the heels of warnings that Russia is seeking to destabilise countries in the west.

Try it yourself? sign it x number of times, using different email adresses from the same router and device, the govt website cannot even recognise the same public IP address, its pathetic.

the MN website can do that, as can my fitness training app.

It’s pointless but they aren’t throwing paint on pictures, scaring Jewish people or lying down in the middle in the road stopping people from going about their business. So crack on imo.

In a democracy people are using a peaceful means to express their dissatisfaction without harassing anyone, without rioting and without being a bloody great nuisance to anyone. So fine, I doubt anyone believes they are going to get a general election but it’ll be bloody amusing to watch a debate on this,

You don't think it's a problem that (allegedly) 2 million people think it would be reasonable to allow a democratically held election to be redone because they don't like the results?

You can't say "this is democracy, people peacefully signing petitions about stuff", when the stuff they're signing a petition about is them wanting to undermine democracy itself!

FelixtheAardvark · 25/11/2024 09:26

JusteanBiscuits · 25/11/2024 08:49

Yet after the result of a non legally binding referendum, we are all told "you lost, get over it".

I told people to "get over it" and I voted "remain".

The heart rending tripe that some remain supporters came out with was frankly nauseating.

We fought a rubbish campaign and got the hiding we deserved.

DinosaurMunch · 25/11/2024 09:28

ExtraOnions · 25/11/2024 09:05

a heady mix of right-wing snowflakes who can’t get over loosing, Russian Bots, Elon Musk fans, and angry landowners

Maybe everyone who signed it can go live in their own Utopia …

It's not right wingers who can't cope with losing. It's foreign actors wanting to destabilise western democracy.

EmmaMaria · 25/11/2024 09:32

Littlemissgobby · 25/11/2024 08:55

I have seen the proof online. You can see who is signing it and it’s not from Britain. There is people that have signed it from different parts of the world and it’s definitely not Britain. I do not believe these are British people in far flung places either

I haven't signed, won't sign - but if you have seen such proof them please post the links because (a)you can't see who is signing it, (b) the system is designed to accept only UK based people so I am sure parliament would want to know how you found the flaws in their system and (c) what you believe is irrelevant.

There won't be a general election any time soon, and not as a result of this petition. But I do think that Labout need to start listening. 2 million people isn't just a load of Tories with nothing better to do. The unions are already turning against policies. They are hurting working people and they are alienating their own base of support. There will be a price to pay.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/11/2024 09:33

I'd have thought genuine British voters dissatisfied with labour would have the sense to realise the other parties are in no shape to fight a GE!

I didn't vote Labour, but they haven't pissed me off yet. I am able to understand that some very hard decisions need to made, and some very tough things need to happen to sort out the state of the country and economy.

username8348 · 25/11/2024 09:33

From hundreds of different countries apparently.

Brefugee · 25/11/2024 09:34

have not RTFT but basically: you lost, suck it up

The "2nd Brexit referendum petition" got over 3 million signatures, i think?
There will be a new election by 2029, until then? lobby your MPs on things, follow the processes

rwalker · 25/11/2024 09:36

listened to years of bitching and false promises

there an almighty undercurrent of disappointment

See page one of this debate even another person has screen shot from outside Britain yes you can't find the data

CaptainRedbeardandbigbadbarry · 25/11/2024 09:37

Labour only won the election back in July because they were the only option that weren’t the Tories. Of course the signs were there .. and there was absolutely nothing in their manifesto as to what they were going to do once they were in power. It was all about ‘ vote for change ‘ and Starmer going on about how his Dad was a toolmaker.
Now of course people are seeing what they are all about and it is much much worse than they thought.
