To think that people with extreme political views shouldn’t be allowed to vote?

Far-left and far-right ideologies are tearing society apart. Should we limit the influence of extremists?

Get a grip

FiveShelties · 24/11/2024 21:38

How would you implement that? And who decides how far far-left or right is?

IKEAJesus · 24/11/2024 21:38

Who defines what is extreme? It would very quickly go to “whoever disagrees with me”

Hateam · 24/11/2024 21:39

There are many problems with this.

Can you define extreme please?

Deadhouseplant · 24/11/2024 21:41

Are you suggesting we do away with democracy?

pl228 · 24/11/2024 21:41

I think extreme left or extreme right views are quite problematic - but you can’t stop people voting!

ByMerryKoala · 24/11/2024 21:42

The appetite for authoritarian policies is off the chart on this site at the moment.

Branleuse · 24/11/2024 21:42

Beg pardon?

IntheArctic · 24/11/2024 21:42

It's called living in a democracy.

Spudthespanner · 24/11/2024 21:42

No. But I don't think you should be allowed to vote. You're fecking nuts.

Badgerandfox227 · 24/11/2024 21:43

You want Fascism?

Icanttakethisanymore · 24/11/2024 21:43

Yes, great idea. Presumably you’ve thought about how you define extreme and how you identify people with extreme views?

Delorian · 24/11/2024 21:43

What a lovely paradox you've created there.

emmetgirl · 24/11/2024 21:43

Define extreme

Cynic17 · 24/11/2024 21:43

So you think it's a good idea to destroy democracy, OP? Everyone is entitled to their opinions (& votes), regardless of whether you agree.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 24/11/2024 21:44

I disagree with what you say, but i would die to defend your right to say it. DEMOCRACY.

EdgyEagle · 24/11/2024 21:45

People here asking me to define what I mean as if we don’t know what “extremist” means. I have also alluded to far-left and far-right.

Only one person so far has commented with a bit of sense and a somewhat normal comment instead of asking stupidness like “define extreme” and “are you saying people who disagree with us shouldn’t vote”. Come off it.

OP posts:
sprigatito · 24/11/2024 21:46

I'd say you have a pretty extreme view right there, OP...so no vote for you!

MushMonster · 24/11/2024 21:46

Well, only if they have policies that are against the law and constitution of the country they enter the electoral system in, or against human rights. But I am pretty sure those controls are already in place.

We cannot ban groups because they are controversial! That is very much on the authoritarian side of things, not on the democratic one.
They are easy enough to crash by not voting them.

Echobelly · 24/11/2024 21:47

YABU - democracy is democracy. People whose views I find repugnant still have the right to vote. Who would decide what is 'extreme' for a start? We've seen an increase in both normalisation of extreme views, and fairly normal views being 'Overton windowed' as 'extreme'.

You do realise that your view is extreme OP...

🙄

Hateam · 24/11/2024 21:49

OK different question

How are you going to find out what the private thoughts of 25 million people are?

ThinWomansBrain · 24/11/2024 21:49

yabu - but with undemocratic FPTP it makes no difference anyway

TheNewSchmoo · 24/11/2024 21:50

How far is far. Is there a chart?

You can reply as sniffily as you like, but the style of responses are directly linked to the ridiculousness your question.

lol if only OP had thought one step ahead.
“Democracy - we’ll be just fine without it!”
