Should we be worried about war

Seen a lot in the news about Ukraine using USA missiles against Russia. I've been thinking more along the lines that it won't start a WW3 and will resolve at some point without the UK getting directly involved in war. But there seems to be more and more tension and threats of an all out war recently.

Should we be worried about WW3? I haven't been prepping or anything but does make me wonder if I should start getting a few days worth of food in case. At the same time I don't want to go down the prepper hole and start getting over the top.

I saw somewhere that we're in a pre war society, not a post war one. It feels like all these articles are soft launching ww3 on us.

I think it's coming. I might start some light prepping in the new year if I can. I'm terrified tbh 😅

LittleRedRidingHoody · 19/11/2024 12:02

I am, personally.

It doesn't consume my daily thoughts constantly, but the world keeps getting shittier and shittier. We've seen this kinda war set up before and I doubt Russia will stop if they 'beat' Ukraine.

I can't edit my post for some reason but if I could, I'd remove the laughing emoji

It's a serious topic and people are suffering across the world due to war. I was just trying to make light of how terrified I am x

LittleRedRidingHoody · 19/11/2024 12:10

@MumOfOneAllAlone it's showing up on my end as the worried sweat drop emoji, not a laughing one! Perfect under the circumstances.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/11/2024 12:12

I’d be a lot more worried if that permission hadn’t been given. Do you actually think that if russia is able to defeat Ukraine it would stop there?

Our best chance of avoiding a WW3 in which the UK is a direct combatant is to arm Ukraine to win as quickly as possible. We should have done it 1000 days ago.

ByMerryKoala · 19/11/2024 12:13

What use would worrying about war do you?

Seasidesand76 · 19/11/2024 12:13

It is terrifying when I give it too much head space. I don't want to go all out on prepping but I want to be at least somewhat prepared.
We didn't do any stockpiling with COVID and it bit us back because we didn't have loads of food at home when the stores were being emptied. I know COVID and war are different etc but peoples reactions to stockpiling will be the same.

It’s NATO I’m concerned about, particularly this awful decision of Biden to escalate things just as his tenure comes to an end.

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/11/2024 12:14

I think we probably are. As there is literally nothing I or we can do about it, I am getting on with life.

Oh thanks, aha. I didn't wanna seem like I was being an arsehole

Scary isn't it, I'm trying not to catastrophise but the news isn't helping

It's more should we be prepping enough to have a few days of food in. A year ago I would have said that WW3 was not happening and the media is over exaggerating. But there is more tension now and it does seem more of a possibility. Of course that's a worry.

Not sure what to think to be honest
Personally, for me, if they decide to use nuclear weapons, I'd rather just die than try and survive any of it, but that's just me.
I put it on the back burner most of the time as nothing else you can do ( apart from stocking up if you are set on survival )

I don't see it as an escalation, it's just Trumpy propaganda, because he likes Putin. Ukraine now has the ability to damage military bases inside Russia, to reduce their capacity to wage their illegal war in Ukraine. Of course it's upset the Russians, but yah boo sucks. to them. They started it.

I can't give this any head space
Are you all SAHMs???

I'm worried about stuff I have a minute bit of control over

No, I don't think so. It might make things more comfortable over a short while but the response to food security in the event of a war, would need to be state wide. Taunting yourself with the idea that you could mitigate this is just terrifying you more, offering you an avenue to ruminate over it and it wouldn't make any difference.

Personally, I'd wager the house that we won't end up in this situation. But I think being pragmatic about how minimally you could prepare for something like this might be a route out of this fear loop that you have found yourself in.

coffeesaveslives · 19/11/2024 12:24

If there's going to be a war then having a few days of food in a cupboard is going to make absolutely no difference to anything.

I CBA to worry about it tbh - either it happens or it doesn't, nothing any of us can do either way!

What does SAHM have to do with this? Seems like a thinly veiled dig to me. Suggesting SAMHs have nothing better to do or nothing else to worry about.

Happyinarcon · 19/11/2024 12:26

No. Stop watching the news. If it wasn’t the Ukraine they’d be banging on about how China was totally serious about invading Taiwan….again, or the Black Death emerging from Madagascar etc

icecreamscoops · 19/11/2024 12:32

Where I am in the world we've just received a pamphlet about how to be prepared in times of crisis and war so yeah it's on my mind! We've got some
Food prep and provisions but nothing like we need!

Novemberisfinallyhere · 19/11/2024 12:33

No I don't think WW3 will happen.

Sahm's sitting around all day whilst their children play quietly in their perfectly tidy homes with nothing better to do than to think about and discuss world issues.

Ahahahahahahaha, if only!!

TheWhalrus · 19/11/2024 12:40

Not specifically worried about Russia's updated nuclear doctrine....that's been breached multiple times and nothing happened. I'm not even convinced Russian nuclear weapons are even effective anymore, although we have no good way of finding this out conclusively.

In the wider picture I wonder about how bad things are likely to get, especially in the context of the current crop of spectacularly useless world leaders we seem to have.

thesatsumabutter · 19/11/2024 12:42

Food insecurity is a given in the future regardless of war
