Should we be worried about war

Seen a lot in the news about Ukraine using USA missiles against Russia. I've been thinking more along the lines that it won't start a WW3 and will resolve at some point without the UK getting directly involved in war. But there seems to be more and more tension and threats of an all out war recently.

Should we be worried about WW3? I haven't been prepping or anything but does make me wonder if I should start getting a few days worth of food in case. At the same time I don't want to go down the prepper hole and start getting over the top.

I think it’s always a good idea to worry about war. Russua have threatened to release nuclear weapons if Ukraine were given permission to use long range missiles. Well Biden gave permission and they have now been used by Ukraine. So something will happen otherwise Russia will look ridiculous.

The thing that gets me though is all his media puppets talking about nuclear weapons being fired into London and how the people will be full of regret, what do they honestly think is going to happen once they nuke London? It’s basically the end of Russia and probably the end of the planet. It’s a stupid thing to have threatened abd a stupid war to have started.

@Artistbythewater I agree with the "this is what Putin wants you to think".

But then I wonder why our mainstream media report on it so breathlessly. Is it just a wish for hits. It seems so silly to indulge him with "live updates" that get everyone panicking

It makes a slow news day more interesting. The financial markets were jumpy. Bad news sells. Putin is angry and disappointed, and looking for deflection - no doubt extremely concerned that the motherland is now under threat with ballistic missiles. There isn’t much Russian support for this war beyond their usual patriotism, if people start being killed in their beds Putin will be under an enormous amount of pressure. He is running out of options. It’s just as well Trump is about to enter the fray - and offer an exit route.

Manxexile · 19/11/2024 14:26

Russia has struggled for almost three years to defeat Ukraine.

Anybody who thinks Putin is also contemplating taking on the rest of Nato Europe is deluded.

(Although my own view is that the Nato countries of western europe need to be very circumspect as to how they handle the conflict in Ukraine as Trump has previously said that countries like Germany, Italy and Spain do not pull their weight on defence spending and rely too heavily on the USA. If the Ukraine conflict spreads, USA may not want to get involved)

dannyufcfan · 19/11/2024 14:27

Something we have no control over.

I'm not going to give it a second thought unless it does happen.

Are you all SAHMs???

I'm worried about stuff I have a minute bit of control over

How on earth is that relevant?? Unless you're implying that SAHMs have loads of time to sit and think about stuff... 🤔

WestwardHo1 · 19/11/2024 14:32

"Should we"?

I'm not going to change it by worrying so I'm deciding not to worry.

Matthew Syed in the Times has written a very interesting piece recently on the way Europe has sat back and spent its money on welfare while being happy for the US to foot the bill for NATO.

It’s NATO I’m concerned about, particularly this awful decision of Biden to escalate things just as his tenure comes to an end.

Artistbythewater · 19/11/2024 14:35

I am not remotely worried.

Ukraine has every right to defend itself. They would not be doing this without the consent of the finest military minds in the world - and with great consideration.

It’s the thumbs screws strategy.

Russia needs to be held to account for the worst atrocities we have seen in over half a century. That will happen in time. The end game will get ugly as Putin will need to feel he has ‘won’ something. But he has failed terribly.

I read the Russian nuclear weapons are in a terrible state, and probably wouldn’t work anyway. After seeing their ancient military hardware I am minded to agree.

anchorage81 · 19/11/2024 14:35

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/11/2024 12:12

I’d be a lot more worried if that permission hadn’t been given. Do you actually think that if russia is able to defeat Ukraine it would stop there?

Our best chance of avoiding a WW3 in which the UK is a direct combatant is to arm Ukraine to win as quickly as possible. We should have done it 1000 days ago.

This.

No, Not especially. But then i suppose i am a prepared for the worst type person so we already have things like, torch, batteries, candles, matches, heat blanket, first aid kit, water tablets in the house.

We also have a bag with a change of clothes, money, copies of documents, deodorant, toothbrush and some money in in case of emergency.

It seems nuts typing it out, but then we have been in a situation where we were flooded out so a lot of it is to do with that.

Goldbar · 19/11/2024 14:37

Maybe, but what can most of us really do about it? I'm not in the financial league that I can build a nuclear-safe bunker and stockpile sufficient resources to see out a nuclear attack. I do however (living near London) take some comfort from knowing that there are a large number of individuals in powerful positions in Putin's regime who have stockpiled significant personal wealth in London property, but maybe that's just wishful thinking.

Llhaaf · 19/11/2024 14:39

I am praying that January 20th comes around quickly.

Nomdejeur · 19/11/2024 14:40

Not worried at all. Even if I was, a couple of days of food will do sweet FA, unless you are like those American preppers it won’t help you at all.

stormwarrierridesthewaves · 19/11/2024 14:41

I can't give it any headspace.
I have so something incredibly sad happening in my life right now, band I literally can't think about this.

Oh yes, nice Mr Putin hasn't done anything wrong...

Biden is a bit late with this. Russia has been fighting all-out and is now bringing troops from North Korea as well as the materiel it's been importing from N. Korea and China. Ukraine has been fighting with one hand tied behind it's back unable to reach into Russia to effectively strike against Russian rear areas. By holding back US permission to strike into Russian territory it also prevented the UK releasing permission for Stormshadow because it relies on US technology to work. And with Scholz being a wet blanket the whole NATO response has been dampened for too long.

Ukraine gave up it's Soviet era nuclear arsenal and adopted a position of neutrality for the promise of security and sovereignty. Russia violated that in 2014. Ukraine has had territory occupied by Russian invaders for a decade. Too right Ukraine wants to push the Russians off its territory, and give up on neutrality in favour of the EU and NATO.

Yet you manage to be a Putin apologist, and now we have Putin's puppet about to take office in the US. How do you justify holding your position? Are you Russian?

What does SAHM have to do with this? Seems like a thinly veiled dig to me. Suggesting SAMHs have nothing better to do or nothing else to worry about.

Not veiled at all, I would say...😳 What an odd thing to say, so out of sorts...

ChristmasRoses · 19/11/2024 14:45

If WW3 starts I don't see how having a few days worth of food in the house is going to help tbh.

Yes, they're not very good at their jobs. We can all see right through the nuclear war threats.

I think this thread is attracting plenty of bad characters. Did the west create this? No. Most definitely not. Russia has historically considered Ukraine to be their own territory going back to the days of the empire. Sadly for them the Ukraine people do not agree; and wish to remain democratic.

No.

FinFacts · 19/11/2024 14:48

@ChristmasRoses Of course it helps. Not everyone will die, and not even immediately. People need to cope and be self-sufficient even if there are bombs going off in the next town. The last thing emergency services want to be (or are are able to) is to save people who fall ill due to lack of food, warmth, money etc..

SunshineSky81 · 19/11/2024 14:48

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 19/11/2024 14:41

Do you have a nuclear bunker though?

😂No, absolutely not. In fact i'm pretty sure anything i could build would be more likely to kill me by collapsing than saving me.

Mine is more for if things get a bit hairy for a few days rather than when the sh*t hits the fan 😂
