To have the dog in the bed with us?

I bathed her this morning for the first time in well over a year as she rolled in poop. This was the result… she sleeps under the duvet with us every night.. how am I not ill? 🥴

The handwringing on here is rather funny though. Last time I checked nobody was forcing co sleep with an animal so maybe if you you don’t like it, don’t do. If you do, do.

BoldAmberDuck · 18/11/2024 23:43

Reading this with my feet on a little Jack Russell under the quilt ….❤️…. I love it

This. Sleeping with your pooch is not affecting the hand wringers on here.

I don't hate dogs, I just grew up with working dogs. I dislike the way people confuse animals with humans. Yes dogs bring us great joy and companionship, but they are not humans.
To me, dirt is dirt. Whether on a human or a dog. Lets just be logical about this, dirt on a dog is still dirt. That doesn't make me a dog hater...just someone who thinks sleeping in a dirty bed is gross.
I don't climb into bed after a long, sweaty and muddy workout without having a shower. Why is it different with a dog?

Exactly. It’s disgusting when people sit on their bed with their outside clothes on, let alone putting a dog IN their bed.

ChallahPlaiter · 19/11/2024 07:33

We lost our best girl very suddenly this year. We got her from people who kept her in a concrete yard. I’m so glad I let her sleep in the bed with us, she had the best life.

2024riot · 19/11/2024 07:50

@GretchenWienersHair but why does what other people bother you so much that you think you can pass judgment
Your seem rather insufferable

CoffeeCantata · 19/11/2024 09:58

Oh yuk.

No, no, no, no.

The dog I walk sticks its nose right into other dog's backsides and sometimes licks them.

No, never.

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 19/11/2024 09:59

@Copperoliverbear as a long time breeder, trainer and dog groomer I think you are a) delusional or b) nose blind. Your dog smells and your house smells of your dog.

Tapthisscreen · 19/11/2024 10:05

Not the brutal “you smell 🤮” comments again. Wounded. May not be able to come back from this.

sel2223 · 19/11/2024 10:08

I absolutely adore my dog (currently curled up next to me on the sofa warming my feet) but, nope, not in the bed.
He doesn't even go upstairs.
He doesn't 'kiss' people or lick their faces either. He's a dog, a very much loved dog with a great life who we rescued, but still a dog.

I've never co-slept with my DD either and she's 4 now. Our bed is just for us 😅

What other people choose to do is entirely up to them.

MessyNDepressy · 19/11/2024 10:20

Absolutely disgusting to have a dog in your bed 👀. The shame! Someone call the church.

That’s a gorgeous and happy pup! And kitty too 😻

Jayne35 · 19/11/2024 10:28

Not in the bed but our dog sleeps at the bottom, on top of the duvet (and a folded blanket in case her feet are wet). I expect our home smells slightly of dog, though she is groomed and showered regularly, but I'm not bothered as it's my house.

EmmaEmEmz · 19/11/2024 10:49

I have two dogs (chihuahuas) and bed share with my 5 year old. The dogs sleep with us. One usually behind my knees and one in between me and daughter, head on pillow and body under duvet.

No…. that’s something that only happens on mumsnet..

Normal people manage to wear ‘ outside’ clothes INSIDE their houses ( yes shock horror- even in the bedroom 🙀 )

WiddlinDiddlin · 19/11/2024 15:38

Three dogs in/on our bed, including the geriatric and intermittently leaky one (he sleeps in a donut bed, on an absorbent/waterproof backed pad) on our bed as that way we can know instantly if he is up and starting to stomp about.

The long wheelbase one lies between us, head on his own pillow (yes got fed up of him dribbling on mine), back against my back (so its DP he kicks in his dreams not me) and the pointy stick dog goes behind my knees.

In winter there are three duvets on our bed so those who want to wiggle under the covers can do so without being right on the sheets, though I don't really care... i just get funny about tickly furry bits touching me, triggers my nerve damage 'random itch I can't find' thing.

Having dogs on the bed is something I always wanted from dog ownership and something I have done for more than 20 years now. In that time I have caught zero diseases from dogs and picked up zero parasites.

I cannot say the same for humans, particularly children which is quite something given I do not have any children!

Cheesyfootballs01 · 19/11/2024 15:39

I have to say that I love the outrage from all of the people who think it’s ‘vile’ and ‘grim’ that people let their dogs ( & cats!) sleep in their beds!

I really don’t understand why you would all get so worked up over it?

FooFighter99 · 19/11/2024 15:41

We share a bed with our 7stone Rottweiler..... she's a massive duvet hogger too - but we wouldn't have it any other way

Because from the very first post dogs roll around in shit.

Having an animal that does that in your bed is not great. In my opinion anyway.

What a beautiful pooch!!

hereismydog · 19/11/2024 15:49

My dog has been a godsend to have in the bed during pregnancy as he’s far more comfortable to rest against than my purpose-made pregnancy pillow, which I have hated every time I’ve used it!

He isn’t a stinky dog, though Grin

But that was why the OP washed the dog?!

I think everyone who owns a dog would wash them if they had shit on them…. 🤣
