To have the dog in the bed with us?

I bathed her this morning for the first time in well over a year as she rolled in poop. This was the result… she sleeps under the duvet with us every night.. how am I not ill? 🥴

Also most houses don't have the heating on overnight so all sleeping in bed keeps us all warm , dogs included .

People used to keep their cows in the next room too, for warmth 👍

Boomer55 · 20/11/2024 07:22

I suppose it depends on personal opinion. I can’t think of anything more unhygienic and yuck 🤮 than having a pet in bed.🤷‍♀️

So, I never have. 🙂

So I assume my 62kg Bullmastiff wouldn't be welcome 😍

My dog sleeps on my bed - apart from anything else it means we both sleep through the night, otherwise he’s awake and looking for company at 4.00am. He’s a non-shedding breed, is fully groomed every 6 weeks and bathed in between if he gets especially muddy or rolls in something unpleasant. My bed doesn’t smell, the bedding is changed regularly and he sleeps on a dog blanket that is washed even more regularly. I’ve always had animals sleep on my bed, it’s part of the pet deal.

My kids have peed, poohed and vomitted in my bed - my dog never has. I’ve also had a very short lived boyfriend leave skid marks on the sheets, my dog never has. You’ve a limited imagination if you think nothing is more unhygienic than a pet.

Delatron · 20/11/2024 08:19

I think this is just something you can’t understand unless you have a dog and love that dog. I know it’s not for all dog owners (we can’t due to my sleeping). But before I had a dog I would have thought eeewwww. Now I think - what a beautiful thing for both the dog and the owner.

Sausagenbacon · 20/11/2024 08:25

Yanbu because it's up to you.
But if the question was, am I peculiar? Yes YAP

Sausagenbacon · 20/11/2024 08:26

..and I have had 2 beloved dogs

MabelMoo23 · 20/11/2024 09:31

I used to think dogs in beds was revolting. Then we got a sausage dog.

she treats the bed like a massive sausage pit and burrows right to the bottom and snores all night right at our feet. Wouldn’t have it any other way.

although a couple of nights ago, I woke up on the edge of bed to find a child and said sausage both snoring away lying on my pillow together. Made my heart go all fuzzy

I have a firm no animals upstairs rule.
On bed is bad
In bed is gross

Are you going to tell her or shall I? 😅

Dogs are smell terrible. Even the "clean" ones. There's no way I'd want one in my house, never mind my bed.

DevilledEgg · 20/11/2024 12:26

Cheesyfootballs01 · 19/11/2024 16:01

But that was why the OP washed the dog?!

I think everyone who owns a dog would wash them if they had shit on them…. 🤣

That's kinda like saying "I've washed this toilet brush so now I can clean my dishes with it"

It's just unhygienic

NearlyChristmas2024 · 20/11/2024 12:36

That’s so minging 🤮 No way would I let an animal sleep in our bed.

I’ve had dogs all my life, 65 years, never made me ill and always slept in bed. It’s up to each individual person I guess but mine are part of the family

Sleeping with a dog doesn't have to make you ill to be gross.

Is sharing your bed with every "part of the family" normal for you? Who else is in there, apart from the dog?

OhNotNow · 20/11/2024 14:45

Mine isn't even allowed in the bedrooms, let alone on the bed.

My husband too. Don’t worry about it we are fine!😂😂😂

caramac04 · 20/11/2024 15:10

I couldn’t bear either of the dogs on the bed unless my DH slept elsewhere.
Actually I would like the double bed to myself, I can’t bear it if DH wants to cuddle up but then falls asleep snoring and impeding me. He’s hairy too but not much I can do about that

Pretty certain your arse has had shit on it. Yet you take that to bed with you.

IWillAlwaysBeinaClubWithYouin1973 · 20/11/2024 15:48

This morning I let my dog lick the crumbs off my toast plate. Unfortunately I forgot and served myself another slice on the same plate … (well, it looked so clean!!)

Stillnormal · 20/11/2024 15:53

Mine sleeps under the duvet at the bottom of the bed - makes a lovely pocket of warm air for my feet. Now it’s cold and I’ve no heating in my bedroom I actually find myself calling him to bed sometimes, awful though it is to admit.

DataPup · 20/11/2024 16:17

Some people must really think dog owners are nose blind if they think they wouldn't know their dog has rolled in shit because they didn't see it!

PreciousMahoney · 20/11/2024 16:49

Ah jeez this thread has really cheered me up on a particularly horrid day.....people finding "outside clothes" inside unacceptable is my favourite.

My georgous black lab sleeps in his bed beside ours but hops up in the morning for a snuggle on top of the covers.

Strangely I shower and wash my hair afterwards.

My work colleague spouted some of these views about disgusting dogs, not getting the irony of her breath smelling like a fire breathing dragon due to some shite she'd eaten the night before.😆

What about parents, children, siblings, etc? Are they part of the family too?
