I bathed her this morning for the first time in well over a year as she rolled in poop. This was the result… she sleeps under the duvet with us every night.. how am I not ill? 🥴

Probably because you don't lick your sheets. And it's mostly going to be mud and akin scurf, which whilst a bit manky if you look closely isn't really a health risk.
And you aren't, so clearly it's fine!
I have 2x 20 plus kg dogs snuggled under the duvet and wouldn't have it any other way.

I am at that stage now. My dog is very old and I don't think we have very long left. But she is still on my bed at night (but with towels and puppy pads).

If she’s not got long left it’s nice she’s snuggled with you on the bed 💐
I am sure she’s had a lovely life with you.

wafflesmgee · 18/11/2024 21:27

That is absolutely disgusting.

Foxblue · 18/11/2024 21:28

Mine sleeps in my bed - she's my hot water bottle!
I do think it's good for your immune system, I'm sure I've seen reports on studies saying you sleep better too...
Also I just don't think there's much difference germs wise between cuddling a dog on the sofa and in bed, really. But understand why people don't want to do it.

Presumably to not block the plumbing the all
the fur and wet dog smell.

Human hair (from the head and shaving) goes through the plumbing too.

And what wet dog smell in the bathroom? People also shit in there.

Gottastoppostingsomuch · 18/11/2024 21:29

I think if I had a dog in my bed it would be washed frequently I’m afraid, definitely not once a year!!

Thank you. I have had her for 14 years, which is amazing for a greyhound.

Meh it’s your house so your call.

Our dogs sleep downstairs.
They don’t even know what the upstairs of the house is!
Love them dearly, but they’re not sleeping in the beds.
They’re pet animals, not people 😂 😂😂

CurlyhairedAssassin · 18/11/2024 21:32

Yes, you do realise that dogs roll in all kinds of nasty stuff outside, it's not always visible. Would you sleep with your outdoor shoes on in your bed? Same thing if you let a dog in.

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 18/11/2024 21:32

Ew all you dog cosleepers... you've turned your bed into a dogbed. You sleep in a dog bed. That is rank!

wafflesmgee · 18/11/2024 21:33

Just out of interest, how often do you wash yourself? Why do you assume your dog accumulates magic dirt and bodily excretions that is somehow different to your own?! Yuck.

SweetSugarPlum · 18/11/2024 21:33

That makes my skin crawl, not for me however your bed and dog your choice I suppose 😅

It is. I don't even like sitting on a sofa with a blanket covering it "protecting it from the dog". What is protecting ME from all the dog hair and smells when I sit down on it?! Disgusting. I would never sit in a dog's bed so have no clue why anyone would think it fine to expect a human to sit where a dog sits on a sofa.

I’ve had dogs and a baby in a car. Wet dog stank much more than an exploded shitty nappy and for much longer lingering.

hair is caught more easily by the trap than smaller fur.

Yes, I'm a dog lover but our family dog always slept downstairs when I was growing up.

TaylorSwish · 18/11/2024 21:37

My dog sleeps on my bed. I know it’s probably gross and yes it’s like sleeping in a dog bed. There’s many houses that are wwwaaayyyy cleaner than mine. I don’t care as I love my dog and I tell her that all the time.

Cheesyfootballs01 · 18/11/2024 21:37

Oh hello! The anti dog brigade have turned up to say how gross everyone is for letting their dogs sleep in/on their beds. In their own houses,

It never takes long does it… 🤣

Olliequick · 18/11/2024 21:37

I share a bed with 2 dogs and couldn’t have it any other way. I love them cuddling up for the night.

They do accumulate different dirt, because I don't tend to roll in fox shit.

hattie43 · 18/11/2024 21:38

My two sleep on the bed if warm or under the duvet if cold . I can't get to sleep without them now .

Dogs are pretty clean. If they roll in stuff, they get a bath.
What is it to do with you anyway?

UnctuousUnicorns · 18/11/2024 21:39

"Mine sleeps under the duvet - she scrapes the duvet back to get under, then settles with her nose sticking out at the end. She’s like a hot water bottle that doesn’t make you sweat!"

Snap! 😅

Wet dog smell does not bother me. A nappy will make me heave.

vodkaredbullgirl · 18/11/2024 21:39

Last time my dog had a bath, was after he fell in pond 9 years ago.

Tina159 · 18/11/2024 21:40

There was a thing recently where they were encouraging people/kids not to wash their hands after stroking dogs to try and boost their immune systems.

You clearly do not have to worry!
