I bathed her this morning for the first time in well over a year as she rolled in poop. This was the result… she sleeps under the duvet with us every night.. how am I not ill? 🥴

Yuk, I couldn’t abide the smell of dog in my bed. But then I’m a cat person!

I'm a cat person too. They snuggle on me every night. Plus cats don't smell. I love sniffing them 😅

IfYouLook · 18/11/2024 22:55

Dog lover here but mine sleeps outside my bedroom door in his basket. Happy as Larry. I’d never ever have a dog in the bed with me - to me it’s gross. But each to their own.

Wait until your cats are elderly. Old cats are gross.

Ha, my young cat is already quite gross but I love him! 😻

Wishfives · 18/11/2024 22:59

Cats do smell as do their litter trays which lots of people keep in their kitchens 🤢🤢🤢

Heartbreakanddamage · 18/11/2024 22:59

AMFA · 18/11/2024 21:20

Mine sleeps under the duvet - she scrapes the duvet back to get under, then settles with her nose sticking out at the end.
She’s like a hot water bottle that doesn’t make you sweat!

@AMFA Mine does exactly that, except entire body and head fully covered. I cannot sleep without him♥️

My cats don't smell. They smell lovely. My little box is in the bathroom and gets cleaned regularly

I don't think you can smell dog when you have one then same as smokers don't smell it. My dog was a dog downstairs only and not on the sofa I sat on the floor with him.

This. Y'all noseblind. Animal houses smell. Even pristine ones.

teatoast8 · 18/11/2024 23:03

Don't know if it helps that they're indoor cats. But I could sniff them all day long. Proper comfort and very cuddly. Love having them tucked in bed every night.

caringcarer · 18/11/2024 23:03

My 2 dogs are not even allowed upstairs.

itsalwaysthesame · 18/11/2024 23:04

Nah it's fine, my dog is old, lumpy, smelly and hairy quite dirty too I guess as he hates a bath but his been in our bed for 15 years so can't turf him out now.

I do change my covers quite regularly though and haven't used white bedding for 15 years!

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 18/11/2024 21:32

Ew all you dog cosleepers... you've turned your bed into a dogbed. You sleep in a dog bed. That is rank!

It's an extremely warm and cosy one though so 🤷‍♀️

Wishfives · 18/11/2024 23:04

@caringcarer same not allowed upstairs
I grew up on a farm , animals smell.

Justnippinginthegaragelove · 18/11/2024 23:09

I'm a dog lover and have 2 big dogs, but would never let them sleep in my bed! Eww.
Their dog beds are manky and get washed/replaced often. How are your sheets not stained brown (unless they never get walked)?

Dweetfidilove · 18/11/2024 23:11

stargazerlil · 18/11/2024 21:16

I have hot flashes so mine can’t sleep in bed with me. However dirty she gets she’s still cleaner than a lot of men I’ve shared a bed with.

Good Lord 😳. Where are you finding men filthier than dogs and how do you get off with such levels of filthy ?☹️

ChristmasCheesecake · 18/11/2024 23:13

In bed, I have a dog on one side of me and a cat on the other (DH snores so often gets booted out to the spare room 😜)

We may stink but we have superhuman immune systems 💪

Dweetfidilove · 18/11/2024 23:22

YeOldeGreyhound · 18/11/2024 21:48

They still fucking stink though.
And adults can and do too.
Anything alive stinks.

You're not wrong given the subpar hygiene standards.
Lots of stinky fuckers around. God help us through this damp season 🤢.

Howdidtheydothat · 18/11/2024 23:27

My dog sleeps downstairs but she joins me by sitting on the bed at the weekend (when DH is out of the house early) and I have a coffee in bed. Pretty sure that I am correctly sensing her absolute delight at this treat. She bolts up the stairs and onto the bed as soon as she sees that the coffee is on the go💕 . She doesn’t attempt to do this any other time.
….She definitely doesn’t go under the duvet though. Eeew.

Charlize43 · 18/11/2024 23:28

I hate to think what the smell must be like. It's bad enough when people bring medium sized dogs onto trains and they stink out the carriage.

Copperoliverbear · 18/11/2024 23:33

Just send her to the groomers every six to eight weeks and hoover your bed, this dirt would not be coming off in your bed as she is not wet then, it's also this time of year they get more dirty, towel dry her when she gets in from a walk.
She is fine in your bed.

lollypopsforme · 18/11/2024 23:35

Dog owners have gotten worse.
Fuck that.

Copperoliverbear · 18/11/2024 23:36

@KindlyOldGoat dogs don't smell if you are hygienic and have them bathed and teeth cleaned, dogs who live in a dirty environment might smell but personally I think a lot of men are more dirty.

Wellingtonspie · 18/11/2024 21:25

Presumably to not block the plumbing the all
the fur and wet dog smell.

How strange. Never had an issue with either in 30 years of owning dogs.

Same. It is my own hair that clogs the pipes, not my dogs.

I have dogs, I am very very aware that they smell doggy, this is why I don’t let them on upholstered furniture or beds - means a good mop and a hoover keeps things relatively fresh.

totally agree you can still smell dog faintly in my house (which I don’t mind at all) - but I can’t sit on the sofas in houses where dogs use them too!
