Haha - I didn't think of them myself @Imbluedalale , these are just sayings I have heard. I do agree with them all though. I am off to bed soon - might watch a bit of telly once I'm there or read my book. So envious of your sofa - I have had a series of second hand ones and seem to have broken them all with my big bum! 😆Or else the cat has had a go at them - I keep telling her, this is why we can't have nice things! She's had a right go at my bed base - I'm getting a valance to cover it up! 😾

Awww I hope you have a lovely rest, I love reading too. What kind of books do you like? This is the first sofa I’ve ever had brand new so I am thrilled with it. My mum got me some lovely home ware stuff too so it’s really beginning to look really homely.
😂😂😂😂bless your cat , I’m sure it’s her way of telling you she loves you . I’ve never had a cat but all your cat photos me stories is really making me want to get one xx

Laura, THANK YOU so much for sharing these photos. It is so educational for me as I had not seen skin cancers before. Incredibly generous of you and I’m honoured. Xxx

Apolloneuro · 01/12/2024 00:12

Probably good you didn’t show your bikini line one though. You’d have got the thread shut down 😂

Apolloneuro · 01/12/2024 00:16

@kittylion2 we've stuck this like rough material to the corners of our sofa. Doesn’t look too bad and is designed to protect from the claws. I’ll take a photo in the morning.

Apolloneuro · 01/12/2024 00:19

It’s like this and on our grey sofa it looks fine and better than scratches.

That’s ok @Apolloneuro , I hadn’t seen skin cancers before either so it was a big shock to me because I thought they’d just remove the mole and I’d have a little scar. I didn’t realise they had to cut deep inside because of the breslow thickness. As mine was at the top range being over 4mm thick they had to cut deeper. What was actually more painful though was the skin graft and I have ptsd from this because 5 of my ribs were broken they was unable to put me to sleep during the operation and I could hear and smell them slicing my skin for the skin graft and it was very painful for weeks afterwards.
Exes mum used to always say to me that if she could pick any cancer she’d pick skin cancer so I’m very lucky she said xx

Good morning Spoonies! I had a lie in till 5.17am today 😁
@Imbluedalale I'm both humbled and honoured with your bravery in sharing your scars. Not at all what I imagined and yes they are a sign of all your body has endured and come through. My Shero.
No matter how much support you have, it's you doing all the hard work.
@kittylion2 I too have a bed and sofa scratching cat! He knocked over my terrarium and spilled the cactus, soil and stones all over my bedroom. My son got to the sofa first with candle wax during a few meltdowns. Having nice things is pointless!
@Apolloneuro never seen those scratching covers. Going to look into those thanks.
Happy 1st December to all. My son hasn't stop going on about how early he needs to be up on Xmas morning. Had his alarm set for 6am during the week in preparation. It's going to be a long month 😂

BeNavyCrab · 01/12/2024 10:21

@Imbluedalale Thank you so much for sharing the photos. I have only seen pictures of healed skin cancer removal and not immediately after surgery. It's so important to share knowledge like this so it makes you more prepared. I'm also really impressed at how well it's healed up. It must have been incredibly difficult to be awake and aware for the skin graft. You are so brave Laura!

@nornironlady I remember those days of "I can't wait for Christmas morning" and having to set an alarm so they didn't wake us up at silly o'clock. Nothing like a toddler whose trying to open your eyelids at 3am 😂😂
@ChoccieCornflake It was a special edition pack and had fluorescent pink, yellow and green in it, as well as the standard blutak. Both our kids were obsessed with it for some reason. They would take little bits off the posters on the walls at school, so they had some to play with. The teacher couldn't understand why they kept on falling down. It wasn't until they were talking about it at parents evening, that they "confessed" to me. So I was going to get them a pack each, to stop them borrowing the schools, and I saw this special edition bumper pack. It became the highlight of their holiday. 😂😂

BeNavyCrab · 01/12/2024 10:27

@RaspberryBeretxx
Oh dear it's tough when you feel poorly but your kids want to play. Hopefully it passes quickly and you feel more comfortable. Rest up as much as possible x

Thank you for this - I might try it although it might be more fiddly as I have drawers in the divan. I ordered a bed for the spare room and I have ordered one with anti-scratch fabric, but it was a lot more expensive - be interested to see if it works though.

I did wonder why they don't make sofas etc out of this anti-scratch stuff, but my son said it's probably too thick - it is very thick and like a vinyl.

At the moment she is next to my laptop purring right in my face. I think she wants food, but she has some already in her saucer. We will walk into the kitchen and she will realise it's there - I don't think she'd do very well in the wild.😹

Good morning @nornironlady . Wooohoo for the lay in although I don’t think 5.17am is a lay in 😂
Hope your enjoying your brekkie ❤️
I’ve just had a bowl of sugar puffs but my right hand got the tremors and I dropped the box on the floor so sweeed them up with dustpan and brush. I then spent 20 odd mins picking the sugar puffs out the bristles of the brush 😩
Thank you for thinking I’m brave that’s really lovely. I’m hoping that one day I will have the confidence to wear a summer dress again. I wore those long maxi dresses most of the time last summer and because I’m a short arse I kept tripping up on the bottom of them.
Awww that’s so sweet of your son, I love seeing the magic of Christmas in children’s eyes. And you’ve just reminded me that it’s 1st dec 😦xx

Good morning @BeNavyCrab , how are you this morning? Good I hope .
I remember a few days after surgery and I was home had to call an ambulance as I kept fainting and being sick , I lost 3 stone in 5 weeks during this time and during my stay in hospital at Doncaster Royal Infirmary they took all my dressings off to clean my wounds and I had an appointment with the plastic surgeon’s at Sheffield hospital and they went mad as apparently your meant to keep the skin graft really dry to heal and I developed an infection so had to have steroid cream for it .
I remember one year when my children were little they woke up at 4am. By 6am I was shattered again. Now it’s me waking them up 😂xx

Thank you for sharing your scar pictures @Imbluedalale - I know that is such a big step for you. That scar is majorly cool! I love how neat it is! You should definitely get the short dresses out and show that off!!

Also, your idea of not-shaved is my idea of perfectly exfoliated! 😄 My not-shaved is hairy enough to act as an extra insulation layer!

Laura you certainly didn't have a smooth recovery then! It's bad when you trust the hospital staff know what they are doing and then find out that they did the wrong thing. I had a PICC line put in, which is a long term tube that goes into your arm and up to the shoulder, as I was virtually impossible to cannulate. The surgeon who put it in warned me not to let them put a blood pressure cuff on or do anything else to it or it might fail. He said all the staff should know this but he was telling me on the off chance. Lo and behold I woke up that night to a nurse trying to fit a blood pressure cuff on the arm. When I politely said that the surgeon requested that they don't use that arm, she got all snippy with me. 😂

Good evening Laura and all the Spoonies, hope you have all had an enjoyable relaxing Sunday.
I’ve had a lovely Sunday lunch at my oldest sons and spent time with him, daughter in law and granddaughters. Shame about all the bad weather, I hate driving on the motorway when it’s raining hard because of all the spray and stupid drivers.
Back Home now and the log burner is roaring away. 😁😁

It is a neat scar and the surgeons did a very good job but I still wish it wasn’t there if that makes sense. I’m not too worried about the other ones as nobody will ever see them it’s just that one I’m very self conscious about.
I’ve had a lovely day , my sister came and she bought me an echo dot bless her and then we went to a garden centre and she treated me to lunch. I had half a sandwich and half a jam and clotted cream scone and saved the rest for tomorrow. Then I sorted out my daughter’s bedroom ready for her arrival Im not allowed to drill into the walls for 12 months so I got her some magnetic tie backs for her curtains and she’s here now and I’ve just run her a bath so she’s relaxing in that as we speak.
🤣🤣🤣🤣at your insulation layer .
I too have worn black tulip today xx

You’re definitely right about it sometimes being hard to trust hospital staff . I’ve mostly had good experiences but I have had a few bad ones. When my ribs were broken earlier this year they did an ultrasound to find out why I was struggling to breathe and in a lot of pain and the doctor came to my bed and said I had gallstones so they booked me in for surgery 5 days later. I woke up in hospital a few days later and my blood pressure had gone extremely low and I was being sick with the pain so they did a CT scan. It was then they realised I didn’t actually have gallstones but broken ribs xx
