Hiya gang!

Six was excellent, although not as strong as the touring company, I felt.

Laura, ‘It’s a wonderful life’ if our Christmas Eve tradition. Also love Elf, The Holiday and Love Actually.

Fingers crossed for getting home. Trains seem to be being cancelled…

Hi @Apolloneuro , I’ve been thinking about you and wondering how your weekend is going.
Im glad you enjoyed Six. Have you got your green coat with you?
Your Christmas movie choices are all my favourites I love The Holiday!
Did you manage to get home ok?xx

Hi @Meanwhile33 , how are you today?
You’re so right about certain medical conditions not being talked about and that some feel very embarrassing. I’m so pleased to hear that you have a good support network through the NHS.
I really admire your positive outlook and strength.
I remember in 2016 I had a vaginal and bladder prolapse I felt so embarrassed and didn’t know what it was. I had health insurance through my work with Bupa so I went through them and I had an operation to rectify it so all is ok now but I had some shameful moments during that time especially when I had to do a wee standing up and the surgeon was beneath me checking that everything now worked . Still makes me cringe to this day xx

@Imbluedalale It is awful that some woman don't get the help they need, purely because of shame or embarrassment. Especially when they might have all of the problem resolved or significantly improved. We forget that doctors see these things day in and day out, so it's normal and they just want to help. If we have a broken arm, we don't worry about needing to get it fixed.
Well done for getting it looked at and I'm glad it was successful for you.

Hi @BeNavyCrab , it is awful and I really feel for woman with health issues especially ones that are not talked about enough. I also think that mental health is still quite a taboo subject here my dad actually said yesterday this is the first time he’s had any experience of mental health and it’s all quite new to him these last 2 years xx

i agree about mental health amd the older generation, my dad just simply can't understand it. he's not a bad person but the concept of not just keeping going doesnt exist for him, like yours, he's had a hard learning curve with me that people just have a breaking point and it's not their fault xx

That’s exactly how my dad sees it , you’ve explained it a lot better than I did . My dad sat at my kitchen table yesterday and said ‘how are you feeling in yourself have you had any more bad thoughts’ and I could tell it took a lot for him to ask me that but the fact that he did made me well up xx

Every single bleeding train out of Paddington to the South West is cancelled! Fortunately, kind daughter and son in law haven’t put us out on the streets! Try again tomorrow, or I think we’ll hire a car.

Awww no so sorry to hear that @Apolloneuro . I hope you are ok? At least you get to spend an extra night with your daughter and son in law. However if all else fails I could contact the MP for you?xx

i stopped watching the news after the ukraine invasion (my anxiety peaked) but my old director got me listening to the rest is politics podcast (as well as bbc news on my laptop at work) and its a grewt podcast with both sides of conservative and labour taken into consideration, i highly recommend it, and alaister campbel is also very open about his own mental health issues - not starting a politics debate on this thread, just like the podcast! xx

spoonfulofmustard · 24/11/2024 19:02

oh and the sister podcast ' the rest is entertainment' is brilliant, definitely listen to that one!

That’s very kind of you, but my MP is the odious Mel Stride and he wouldn’t care! 😂

I’m not too good about plans changing as I’m a real home bod and find being away from home tiring, but yes I got an extra night with family.

Malbecfan · 24/11/2024 19:41

@Apolloneuro I'm not very far from you - my MP is the odious David Reed, who took over from the useless Simon Jupp. Can I do anything to help?

Imbluedalale · 24/11/2024 19:47

Ohhh thank you I’ll have a listen to those podcasts. I’m reading Ant Middleton book at the moment called ‘the wall’. It’s really good and what he says and how he says it really resonates.
One of the things he says is ‘when you’re at your lowest and you think there’s no way out ,you’re wrong there is.
Take a good look around you and find that one small starting block to simply stand on.
Use it as your foundation and over time elevate yourself block by block. And as I was reading that straight away I thought that all you spoonies brought that starting block to me for me to stand on and gave me a foundation and you gave me blocks piece by piece to start rebuilding my self. And as I’m writing this I’m listening to music on my headphones and this song just came on which describes how all you spoonies helped me and built me back up. I’m so emotional today! Xx

That’s very kind of you to ask. The garden furniture has been blown all over the garden, but that’ll keep. We do grandparent’s day care on Mondays, but that can’t be helped. We’ll get home one way or another.

Not to bring politics into this lovely thread, but Mel Stride kept his seat with 61 votes (from a 20,000 majority). He then had the gall to stand for party leadership.

Oh lovely song, thank you for sharing Laura! Sorry to hear about cancelled trains @Apolloneuro that’s so frustrating.

And yes feelings of shame are a disaster when it comes to health and getting the help you need. I think it’s great that girls now are growing up with so many positive messages about periods and how it’s now a normal thing to talk about. There’s still a long way to go though, I was so disappointed that the new Elizabeth Line trains have been designed with no toilets, the trains go all the way from Reading to Essex and having no toilets will make the journey very stressful for some and completely impossible for others, it’s sad that nobody involved in the design process gave that as much consideration as they should have. Needing the loo urgently is still something that isn’t talked about much because of shame and that leads to bad design decisions made from ignorance.

Im fine thank you for asking, had a lovely day with my family and lunch went well. It was a lot of work though, next time I’m definitely doing a giant spaghetti bake!
