🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I might do all her bedroom chickeny just to see her face 😂
I used Hillary’s once at old home but they was very expensive and no word of a lie but the blind man was actually blind! It was fascinating watching him at work . I’ll have a look at blinds to go , thank you .
I am happy that I’ve got a home and I’m enjoying making it into a home but a big part of me is still missing and that’s my children xx

just did a quick check and blinds2go (actually a 2) have a black friday sale as well at mo xx

The blind in our bedroom was from blinds2go quite a while ago now... Still going strong, I think they do clip in ones now so no drilling required.

As for the light...well, as long as she likes it!!

Do they really? That’s brill I’ll definitely have a look for those. Thank you @Munchyseeds2 . Oh my why has nobody ever told me how good air fryers are? I made some jacket potatoes in it earlier and they tasted amazing .
The light is dreadful isn’t it I’m just glad she’s got the bedroom at back of the house so it’s out of sight 🤣xx

to damper your daughters chicken bum feedback, i was allowed to paint my bedroom black and purple (90s teen) except i lost interest halfway through the airtax ceilang, so lived with purple walls and a half black ceiling for 5 years 😂 chicken bum has nothing on that! ( and my sister will know who i am on that)

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣That’s hilarious 😆 I definitely feel better now . I can’t believe you was allowed to ? My mum would have never let me do that , all I was allowed was posters on the wall. Do you remember ‘more’ magazine? Well I used to get that every fortnight and you got a free poster of a semi clad male in it so I had those on my walls. How tacky!xx

@Imbluedalale Good morning! I've been awake about an hour. I won't go back to sleep but not sure if I want to get up yet either. Weather has calmed right down. So glad to hear you got the airfryer out of the shed and you know how brilliant they can be! Cheaper too. Ninjas do much more than airfry. I've about 20 options between my 2. Especially slowcook options for your chilli and soups.
Really love the idea of going mad and covering your daughters room in chicken stuff 😅 growing up my sis had Tweety Pie....bright yellow walls all round. I hope you are all enjoying your sleep right now 😁

spoonfulofmustard · 24/11/2024 07:22

morning @nornironlady im up but in bed with a coffee watching Elf and listening to the wind howling outside (no better cosy feeling) x

nornironlady · 24/11/2024 07:32

@spoonfulofmustard I watched Elf yesterday even though I can't stand Will Ferrell. Had a right giggle! I've been watching After the party which is C4. A woman who thinks she catches her husband in a situation with a 14 year old lad and the fall out of what she thinks she saw. I'm not even sure myself so its very good.

Morning @nornironlady , you was awake since 5.45 am on a Sunday? Weather here has calmed down too, it’s was bad last night with the wind.
Ive just put heating on for an hour. What are your plans for today?
Im going to batch cook a chilli later today in the ninja, couldn’t believe how fluffy it made the potato’s inside.
Oh I remember tweety pie 😂 . I alas has wanted rugrats wallpaper but I was never allowed xx

Good morning Laura, and all Spoonies. Your house, is now a home! I love your kitchen it looks so homely.
i’m I going to be the only one that likes your daughter’s choice of a lampshade?

I had a feather duster years ago, and every time I dusted the feathers would go everywhere, it was just about bald when I threw it out.

My son got some really nice, blinds from The Range, he had to fit them himself but they were really reasonably priced.

Air fryer’s are brilliant, when I got mine, I thought is it going to be one of those things, that stays in a cupboard, but I use it every day and now I couldn’t be without it.
If you have a Lidl near you they are selling heated throws, for about £25. I got one last year and it’s brilliant. Lovely to snuggle up with and watch a nice Christmas movie.

Hope you have a good day and are feeling better. 🌺😘

🤣🤣🤣🤣at your feather duster and that is was almost bald 😂😂😂😂
I’ll have a look at the range Aswell , thank you. If I can get my kitchen one done and my children’s bedrooms for now then I can wait for the other ones for the other windows .
I’ll have a google and find out where the nearest Lidl is , thank you very much .
I got some throat medicine and lozenges yesterday my mum fetched them so hopefully they will help my throat.
Hope you have a lovely day xx

OP posts:
spoonfulofmustard · 24/11/2024 10:45

i dont really have any traditions, apart from mulled wine when putting up the tree 😉 but i have a couple of shows booked for dec, and i normally do the lights walk at kenwood house but they're not doing it this year. im lucky though to live a little 'village' in london that goes all out. how about you? what do you love aboit christmas? xx

Awww that sounds lovely, I like listening to Christmas music when putting up the tree. Well I’ll have to make some new traditions now as the village I used to live in had a sleigh come round every year with Santa on the back and it used to go all round the streets ringing a bell. Then on Christmas Eve there was a carol service at the monument in the village . My favourite thing about Christmas is the dinner I just love it . Next year when I’ll have my children for Christmas I will think of some new traditions we could do xx

Meanwhile33 · 23/11/2024 09:52

Oh I love all those menu ideas @Imbluedalale , thank you! How do you do your spaghetti bake? I would normally do a few different salads, bread, sausage rolls etc but in this weather I think baked carbs and cheese is the way to go! And then I can serve things from the dishes they are baked in and everything will stay hot. I don’t like it when food that’s supposed to be hot actually isn’t by the time you’re eating it because it took so long to dish up. Which reminds me I have some folding fabric plate warmers in a high cupboard I got for Christmas one year, I must dig them out!

I think I’m going to do cauliflower cheese with butter beans, these potatoes which sound like yours except no chilli, they shouldn’t need as much space in the oven as normal roasties, and some greens and peas. Plus the ham, and some veggies sausages, normal sausages and some pasta for the kids just in case. (Haha if my sister is on here and turns up tomorrow to this exact menu she’ll know this is definitely me!) I need to get out of bed and go to Sainsbury’s so I can get most of it done today.

@BeNavyCrab I’m sorry about your health struggles, that sounds really hard. I know what you mean about wanting to hide things, but I find hiding it then becomes a barrier to having a real honest friendships and it’s better to be as open about it as you can cope with. I’m lucky that I don’t have any pain but I struggle to walk very far sometimes and with needing the loo urgently, and I used to find it embarrassing and not want anyone to know and feel sorry for me, but I’m more accepting of it now, plus it’s getting more obvious, and things are much more comfortable with friends when I’m honest about what I can and can’t do. A big step mentally will be getting a folding stick I can keep in a bag and use when my leg is bad but I think it’s probably time. My condition is progressive so I just have to get my head around it really.

i hope you are all staying warm and cosy. And lol @Imbluedalale at the kilo of coffee for a person who doesn’t drink coffee - visitors & workmen will still be getting through that jar that in 20 years time, and wondering why it tastes a bit weird!

@Meanwhile33 I'm glad you have some great friends in your life, who support you. It is a bit crazy how certain medical conditions are never talked about. It does make you feel more embarrassed than is necessary and that's a barrier to getting support. I have nerve damage and a functional bowel condition. When you are finally able to overcome the shame, it's a great relief. You can learn how to manage a condition and you can start to get your life back. The NHS bladder and bowel support team are amazing and so knowledgeable.

I'm sorry to hear that you also have a long term progressive illness. It can be quite a difficult balancing act of doing enough to maintain the fitness you have and not overdoing it so you deteriorate or put yourself at risk of a fall. It's also hard to stay upbeat when you are worried about what the future will look like. I try to take each day as it comes and reserve a bit of energy for the unexpected events. It doesn't always go to plan, as I can be a bit stubborn for my own good and push myself too much. I also try to think of things that I am grateful for, even in the worst days there's something to be thankful for.

Good morning @BeNavyCrab , sorry to hear your not feeling very well. I hope your cough eases soon, sending big hugs ❤️
This is really random but if you put a potato peeling in each of your socks at night when you have a cough or cold its meant to really help . In the morning you will have an imprint of the potato peeling on your foot and the potato will have gone really dark because it’s removed the toxins from your body and your meant to feel so much better.
Whats the weather like there? It’s blowing a huge gale here you can hear the wind.
I know my mum is spoiling me bless her and I know she wouldn’t do it if she couldn’t afford it as she’s always been really good with money but it’s a new experience for me, I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’m not used to being treated and helped like that.
You explained it really well re being a burden. I’m really sure you’re not but I completely understand the internal thoughts. I get them all the time.
You know it always really fascinates me when I hear of a man cooking , I’m not being sexist and my dad cooked a lot when I was younger . He had a Chinese recipe book that was nearly 80 years old all handwritten too. And he used to make these amazing fresh fish things with homemade sweet chilli sauce they was delicious and he made homemade chicken fried rice. I’ve just never seen a man cook for a very long time. Your daughter’s Dahl recipes sound delicious. I’m not a great cook myself but I do like cooking I’m going to make a homemade chilli this weekend xx

My husband is the oldest of 6, so he learnt to cook when he was younger. We both believe in equal opportunities for our kids so encouraged both of them to learn to cook. My son went to an after school club at secondary school. It was run by a chef, who taught him as they would if you were training in a professional kitchen. He learned things that were useful at home and could teach us too. The chef did have to watch him like a hawk though, as he will do exactly what he is told. He told him to "cut up some meat on the cutting board and put it all in the oven ". Our son diligently chose the correct coloured cutting board, cut up the meat and placed it in the oven, still on the plastic cutting board!😂😂 The chef hadn't any experience with communicating with a child who is ND, so it was an eye opener.

Good evening spoonies and @Imbluedalale I was woken by the rain battering the window at 5am and got up around 6am as I was wide awake. I enjoyed the sparkling Christmas tree I put up yesterday before everyone else got up. I never do it this early but I just felt like it!
I was thinking of @BeNavyCrab on the boat in the storm. We're you affected?
We had roast chicken today as partner on night-shift tomorrow. My niece was here too and has just gone with my son to stay with Mum. Thank you Mum!! I feel the tension falling from my shoulders 😂

It was a bit wild at times but the wind has changed to a direction where we are more sheltered, so it's just the rain now. My husband has volunteered as the lead bicycle rider for a local running race. They were a bit worried about whether it would be cancelled or not due to the weather but it calmed down in time.

It's great when you can get a little bit of child free time and de-stress. Ours had cousins who lived relatively close, when they were younger. It was good for them all to spend time together.

Apolloneuro · 24/11/2024 13:46

Hiya gang!

Six was excellent, although not as strong as the touring company, I felt.

Laura, ‘It’s a wonderful life’ if our Christmas Eve tradition. Also love Elf, The Holiday and Love Actually.

Fingers crossed for getting home. Trains seem to be being cancelled…

Hi @Meanwhile33 , how are you today?
You’re so right about certain medical conditions not being talked about and that some feel very embarrassing. I’m so pleased to hear that you have a good support network through the NHS.
I really admire your positive outlook and strength.
I remember in 2016 I had a vaginal and bladder prolapse I felt so embarrassed and didn’t know what it was. I had health insurance through my work with Bupa so I went through them and I had an operation to rectify it so all is ok now but I had some shameful moments during that time especially when I had to do a wee standing up and the surgeon was beneath me checking that everything now worked . Still makes me cringe to this day xx

Hi @BeNavyCrab , I hope your having a nice weekend and that your feeling a little better.
It’s so heartwarming that you learn both of your kids to cook and that your husband cooks too.
I also love that you and your husband are on the same page when it comes to the kids and equal opportunities that’s how it should be . You sound like a lovely family unit.
😂😂😂😂At your son putting the cutting board in the oven too xx
