Good morning Spoonies! @Imbluedalale that was some mega Chinese last night. I actually shocked you had to order rice separately on top of price of meal 😮 the rice comes with the meal here! I'm really pleased you had your family around you and got lots of help in the house. Bonus! I got up to put heating on and bring the cat back to bed for a half hour. It's the right weather for staying at home and doing a bit of life admin. If any of you are up and out please take care and have a great Friday 🥰

Good morning @nornironlady , did you sleep well?
Hang on a minute ….you get free rice? That’s brilliant! Me and daughter normally get chicken chow mein , rice , chips and prawn toast we are quite boring 😂but last night we also had chicken balls and something called king po yung or something like that but it was nice oh and the salt and pepper chips were lovely. I hope you have a lovely day at home Ann snug and cosy xx

Morning!

What a gorgeous woof woof @Ruralretreating

I love a Chinese takeaway. I can’t remember properly, but is this the sister that’s got your Christmas baubles? Might you be able to get them back, now your family have realised the truth? I hope so.

Trains seem to be running, so will be off to London in a couple of hours.

Morning @Apolloneuro , are you all ready for London? I hope you have a lovely time ❤️
No that’s not the sister with the baubles whom I saw it was my eldest sister the social worker one and her partner.
Have you made any plans for whilst you’re in London visiting family? (Don’t be sneaking into the ritz now) 😂xx

Morning @Imbluedalale
How are you doing lovely? Is your throat better today?
It sounds like you had a good day yesterday with family, daughter and yummy takeaway.
Hope today and your 1st weekend in your new home will be just as good, it will be fab to get the flooring sorted next week, it will look lovely!!

I love the craft you have done to remember us by, if I tried it would look like something done by a 3 year old 😂

You said that you had bottled gas in your last home which might mean that you are not used to paying gas/electric bills?
The cost of gas/electric is silly now
So....have you got smart meters in your house? (So u can see what your using?).
The solar panels should help....do any washing during the day as it shouldnt cost you anything
Learn how the heating works so you are using it in the best way
Pay bills by DD if you can as this will be cheaper
Key card meters are the most expensive way to pay

I don't want to scare you but I also would hate you to have a nasty shock in a few weeks! Xx

Morning @Ruralretreating , how did the cake baking go? I hope you managed to nab one.
Did you manage to start the report this morning superwoman? 😂
Your children sound like mine I made fresh tagliatelle and my youngest said they looked like ‘worms on a plate’ I can’t unsee it now and it’s put me off it 😂xx

I did reserve one for me! I’ll have it later. Have had a very upset stomach this morning so didn’t get my early start on the report unfortunately. Will pull myself together in a moment and crack on!

So glad you’re warm and cosy in your home Laura, such a relief to have the security. This really should be next year’s John Lewis ad!

Have a great day @Apolloneuro , safe travels!

Munchyseeds2 · 22/11/2024 08:38

@Ruralretreating
Your dog looking at the cauliflower!!
They don't need to talk do they? 😂

Morning spoonies! Woken up here with a sore throat, bad hair and what seems to be a menopausal mood swing. Good job the other half has gone to work!
However, every day, more than ever I wake up so grateful I have a home, warmth, nice food and a few good friends.
Have a lovely day @Imbluedalale hope your hair day is better than mine?! 😂

Morning @PeggyMitchellsCameo , Awww sorry to hear about your throat (hair and mood) . I hope your throat starts to feel better soon. I’ve always got bad hair lately especially with all the tufty bits from where it has fallen out with stress so I’m really looking forward to using the lovely shampoo and conditioner you got me , thank you so much ❤️
Going to put heating on for half an hour then it’s back to life admin until my support worker comes. Really want a pj day but I currently resemble a bright pink candy cane so I best get ready today 😂xx

Morning @Munchyseeds2 , how are you today? Happy Friday ❤️
Throat is still sore unfortunately despite having lemon and honey. I’ve got an appointment next Friday with dermatology and the following Monday back seeing my oncologist so I will mention it again then if it’s still hurting and swollen.
I did have a lovely day yesterday thank you. Me and my sister had a heart to heart which was lovely and her partner is absolutely lovely and adores her which was lovely to see . My mum and dad coming tomorrow morning for a few hours which will be nice and looking forward to getting flooring done on Tuesday.
Im not great at doing scrapbook crafts but I enjoy doing it , it really calms me and it’s relaxing .
Do you have any hobbies @Munchyseeds2 ?
I had bottled gas in last home but paid electric bill by direct debit sent ex money for it when I was living there . I haven’t got smart meters so I need to ask for one?My sister and her partner sorted out the heating for me yesterday so it’s not on all the time and she said because it’s a new build I only need to pop it on for a short while as it heats up quickly and to keep all doors closed xx

I had a great sleep and I didn't bother getting up till gone 7am. It's too dark 😅
Yes we get a side dish with a main meal so rice, chips or noodles...or half and half. I usually stick with curry or salted chilli chicken, almost always chicken!
We've weather warnings for snow and ice, then snow rain and wind. Online shopping delivery due any time, I'm usually too late to bag a Friday delivery slot but I was on it this week knowing the weather was to turn and I won't have to move unless necessary!

Imbluedalale · 22/11/2024 09:06

Morning @ChoccieCornflake , I hope your ok today?
I just wanted to warn you to not look at the Shay and Blue website today as they have brought out new fragrances! 😂xx

Glad you had a lovely sleep @nornironlady . Nothing better than laying in bed when it’s dark and cold outside. I love chicken dishes too and I love seaweed but didn’t have any last night . I could eat it just on its own!
Glad you’re staying at home whilst the weather looks bad. I had an email from council last night I think it was a generic one saying that they have put an alert out due to cold weather to give homeless people a bed and shelter but I thought to myself why can they only provide that when it’s cold? I wouldn’t like to be on the streets in this weather and I feel so sorry for the people that are.
Glad you’re getting your food shop delivery coming. My mum said when I do my online food orders to make sure I’ve eaten first so I’m not hungry when ordering 😂xx

Morning everyone, it's certainly very chilly today. We live on a houseboat and the howling wind seems to suck the warmth out like mad. I'm ok in bed under a mound of blankets but getting to the loo is a chilly gauntlet. It was lovely to see everyone's pet photos. Sadly we don't have one ourselves. We used to have a cat who lived next door. One morning I heard all this mournful crying and saw it had fallen down between the boat and the quay. The tide was coming in and he was completely stuck. My husband managed to get down to him and rescue him. From then on, he would come to visit me every so often. He would come inside, walk around checking and then snuggle me before getting out again. It seemed like he was saying thank you.

Your son's x-ray looks so sore. No wonder he's not feeling like doing anything. Hopefully they managed to straighten everything out and it should get less painful as the swelling goes down.

I love the new Spoonies page in your scrapbook and feel privileged to be part of the memories.

Apolloneuro · 22/11/2024 09:30

If I’m anywhere near the Ritz, I shall go in and say “I’m here to see chief spoonie, please can you call her down.”

In reality I’m going with my daughter to see a show. It was my big birthday present from her.

I am so jealous you live on a houseboat. I've always wondered why we don't have them here in Belfast. No idea why they appeal to me so much either!

We don't move with it any more because of my illness. There's some good points about it. In summer it's wonderful to be right on the water and see people pottering about. However it's a bit grim in winter as the boatyard gets filled up with boats that block out the light, which can feel a bit claustrophobic.

It's home though, and we've managed to bring up two kids here. It does force you to work together and be tolerant of each other.

Hi @EdgeOfReality , of course I don’t mind , the more the merrier and you’re more than welcome to join the spoonies . Thank you so much for reading my thread and for your lovely kind words , they honestly mean so much. When I get abit more sorted I’m going to make a collage of all the lovely things you have all said to me and frame it and put it above my bed xx

Thank you😊 The collage sounds a lovely idea. I love crafting it’s really relaxes me.

Hi @EdgeOfReality welcome to the spoonies gang.

Are you going to see wicked at the weekend?

Yes I’m going tonight with my son. I can’t wait to see it! Are you planning to go? Alas I don’t have your beautiful nails or coat but I scrub up ok x

I wouldn't even mind if it didn't move! I just have this deep pull for a houseboat! Practically I understand it's maybe not so great, especially being so humanly close. I'd struggle with that. Maybe I can retire to one someday........

Malbecfan · 22/11/2024 10:41

Sorry I didn't reply last night but a day staring at a screen finished me off and I was asleep by 8.30. Glad to see you sounding so perky Laura xx

Munchyseeds2 · 22/11/2024 10:50

@Imbluedalale

You don't need smart meters but they are a good way of keeping track of costs and, because the government want all homes to have one, the energy firms give homes that have one the cheapest rates (makes me a bot cross!)
I suppose what I'm saying is just be aware and get the best fixed rate deal you can
Uswitch is a good comparison site.

I enjoy reading and watching the TV, spend way too long on the Internet!!
I enjoy cooking but try not to make too many cakes... (have you had any of the gammon yet?)
I do have some of the adult colouring books.
We have a campervan so try and get away as often as possible....give me a field somewhere quiet for a weekend and I'm happy

I wish I cou
ld knit or crochet, my Nan was really good at all that sort of stuff and made some lovely things....I struggle to thread a needle 😂

We have a dog who hates being left home alone, we got her during lock down and didn't realise she had issues til everyone went back to work
Luckily we have been able to work things out so someone is always here .
We call her our 3rd child but we ❤️ her, even tho she's a (massive) tie

Munchyseeds2 · 22/11/2024 10:55

I would put on a pic of the furry toddler but the paperclip thing seems to have disappeared!!....or I'm just not looking properly

Apolloneuro · 22/11/2024 10:58

I love how this thread has grown. Started incredibly serious, moved through spoons, @TealPoet’s generosity, more spoons, perfume, crafts and now pusscats and woof woofs.

RaspberryBeretxx · 22/11/2024 11:10

Your Chinese sounds amazing Laura (although love that you forgot to order the rice but didn’t mention it!). I find there’s always too much food anyway. So lovely that your saw your big sister and her DP too. And that your parents are coming round and your MH team. It must be great to see people and also have time in your lovely home. I hope your upcoming appointments go OK.

It really does feel like you’ve been in a chrysalis in the hotel and now you’re a butterfly emerging! I heard a comedian on R2 a couple of weeks ago and her new show was about having 2 very young kids and the changes that brings and it was called “I am a strange gloop” because in a chrysalis, the caterpillar doesn’t just grow some wings apparently, it turns into a strange gloop then that gloop forms slowly into a butterfly. I’ve thought about it since if I’m having a “strange gloop” moment. Sorry - bit random!

Eek at the Shay and blue website’s new perfumes. I’m not looking till after Christmas now I think.

How exciting to live on a houseboat @BeNavyCrab . I can imagine it being chilly though. Do you have a log burner? DP doesn’t have heating in his downstairs bathroom and it’s so cold! That poor cat falling down between the boat - that’s amazing that your DH saved it and love that it returns to say thank you 💕.

@Apolloneuro your London theatre trip sounds lovely! What are you going to see? My parents are in London for a few days next week and booked Moulin Rouge.

@Ruralretreating sorry your tummy isn’t good this morning. Good luck with your report. Enjoy your cake later on. Oh and what a gorgeous doggy - looks absolutely baffled by the cauliflower 😂.

@Munchyseeds2 - so jealous of your camper van, that sounds so relaxed just driving to a field for a weekend.

Hello to everyone else! Hope everyone has a great Friday.

AdmittowearingCrocs · 22/11/2024 11:19

Morning Laura and all the Spoonies, cold but sunny here on the very edge of the south coast in Hampshire and going to warm up considerably over the weekend. Sorry to hear your throat is still hurting Laura, and @PeggyMitchellsCameo hope your throat also feels better soon. I don’t have any pets but I look after my son and daughter-in-laws cockerpoo when they go on holiday, which is enough for me.
not feeling great as I pulled a muscle in my neck during the night when I turned over. Now I’m struggling to do things. It will get better but very annoying.
Would your older sister be able to ask your younger sister to give you your Christmas tree baubles back Laura?
