Another XL Bully Attack

Vicious XL Bully attack leaves five-year-old boy with life-changing injuries and needing facial reconstruction surgery | Daily Mail Online

Little Teddy needed 100 stitches in his face but was lucky to escape with his life.

Is it unreasonable now to ask the Government to give a warning in the media, that children are to be kept away from these dogs? Not to enter a house or garden where they're known to be? Even if told that the dog is safe, which they are not.
This little chap was visiting a home with his family when it struck.

XL Bully attack leaves young boy needing facial reconstruction surgery

A five-year-old boy has been left with life-changing injuries following a vicious mauling by an XL Bully in Scotland. His traumatised family who helplessly watched on in horror now want the breed banned.

I've not been trying to question you in an adversarial way, just trying to understand what happened. I said I am grateful for you answering my question as I can imagine that it's difficult to come onto a thread like this and speak about what happened to you but it's so important that people who have experienced it first hand speak out about it because those who own these dogs still are for more likely to listen to you. I hope you will do everything possible to campaign for all of these dogs to be removed before further attacks take place.

Totally agree with this, I was going to post something similar that it’s really good to hear the perspective of someone who has had their mind changed by experiencing an incident. People are far more likely to be convinced by hearing from posters like that.

@Carol4155 would you mind clarifying, you’ve said you would never trust any type of American Bully again but also that you have an 8 year old American Bully, have you got rid of both dogs now?

KeebabSpider · 10/11/2024 19:30

If I've read it correctly, the 8 year old dog is an American Bulldog, which is a different breed.

My American bulldog is 8 years old , she was mauled everywhere especially her neck , the puppy had no injuries :( just glad my old dog is still amazing with the kids , she was kept separated from them for a while till she healed and i made sure she was still the same dog, this hasn't even changed her temperament. Im just grateful she is still alive , she helps me with panic attacks and cptsd everyday

American bulldog is not an American bully

Spondoolies · 10/11/2024 20:08

Ok, I didn’t know they are different breeds but I’m a bit confused because there are deaths and attacks by American Bulldogs mentioned as well as XL Bully’s. I thought the XL name was just for those over a certain size. Surely American Bulldogs are also a huge risk to children as well?

I'm glad she has recovered. Poor thing.

I haven't seen any news reports of numerous American Bull dogs attacking people. Maybe there is a reason the Cane Corso are the next breed to watch for?

Spondoolies · 10/11/2024 21:37

Are the press using the wrong names, they seem to be used interchangeably across different sites?

The media have been calling them xl American bulldogs etc ...an American bulldog is not an American bully. American bulldogs have not been created with American pit bulls. Unlike American bullies ...

HagsRule · 10/11/2024 21:58

Thanks @Carol4155 for coming onto this thread and telling your experience. It must have been terrifying. The definition of learning the hard way, but thank goodness not only your older dog survived but none of your children were harmed. I do hope you try as much as you can to do what @SunriseMonsters suggested and keep using your voice to inform those people with these dogs who still have their fingers in their ears.

The breeder you spoke about sounds completely ignorant and in total denial. Any respectable breeder who hears of and sees proof of a vicious attack by one of their dogs would I presume immediately investigate their processes and ensure that this was something to be stopped in future breeding. I'm not involved at all in dog breeding but I imagine reputable breeders would not continue a line that was proved faulty, with an attack like that.

People with these dogs need to wake up.

QueenTweenandKingTeen · 10/11/2024 22:06

Why on earth would you risk your children with an XL, knowing they were banned in England and Wales? Does Scottish air make them less susceptible to mauling? Obviously not. I hope you have shared the video on media channels, to raise awareness. So so stupid.

All bully breeds have it in them to maul. You have merely been lucky so far with your other bull mutts.

An American bulldog is not a pitbull neither has it been created with one

tick tock, tick tock

They all have fighting breed genes.

Not really no ....8 years with my dog is enough for me to know her ..she isn't a pitbull or a fighting dog.

KeebabSpider · 10/11/2024 22:46

Pitbulls were created from dogs taken to the USA. These dogs descend from the old Bull & Terrier dogs first bred in the UK. Pitbulls are lean, different shape head and jaw, muscular but long limbed and athletic.

The American Bull dog has no terrier in it and desended from mastif and bull dogs.

They are neither related nor the same dog.

However, I've no doubt that the numptie breeders especially here in the UK have not only smuggled a large dog of pitbull descent into the UK in the form of American Bully but subsequently these idiots have bred these with American bull dogs, staffs, cane corso and mastif type dogs. Why? obviously to muddy the waters by creating dogs that escape BSL. And yes the press use these names interchangeably.

HagsRule · 10/11/2024 22:59

Well I just went down a bit of a rabbit hole there reading differences between the breeds and some of the blogs out there are just mental! I asked Google what the difference was between XL bullies and bulldogs. They both look like bloody terrifying dogs tbh. Yet at least 4 of these blogs are people writing that the XL bully makes a fantastic family pet!!!! Wtf???

Isometimeswonder · 10/11/2024 23:15

If you put dog deaths UK in Wikipedia it lists every dog killing by decade. Almost all are XLs or staffies or pitbulls.

Exactly.

So the “you have to wonder if it’s the owners or the pets” is nonsense.

There is no wondering. It exists as a statistical fact.

You really haven't learned anything at all.

You are, however, perfectly demonstrating the mentality of a typical XL beast owner.

It seems a mistake a fair few have made
