Knowingly stealing - food shop delivery

Ponter · 07/11/2024 13:45

We order from one of the main supermarkets. On the day of the delivery (last week), I decided to cancel the shop as many of my plans had changed so i didn’t need some of the stuff that had been ordered.

Anyway, the food van turned up and I had a hunch that if I accepted the order I could get the groceries and still get the refund. Which is exactly what happened. It was a risk but I still needed majority of the groceries ordered so thought I’d chance it. We had similar happen once before but we were honest in that scenario.

Even if the supermarket comes back and want me to rectify the error/pay up I can do so - that’s no problem.

I know it’s wrong but I believe the majority would do the same.

Be honest would you?

No.

Grmumpy · 07/11/2024 13:46

No absolutely not.

ohyesido · 07/11/2024 13:46

Very naughty. You will probably get charged eventually

Katemax82 · 07/11/2024 13:47

Probably

ObtuseMoose · 07/11/2024 13:48

No. Do you go to the supermarket and fill your pockets as well?

DieStrassensindimmernass · 07/11/2024 13:48

Nope. Hopefully they'll catch up with you eventually. If you refuse to pay they could potentially stop you ordering again. Phone the helpline, explain and pay what you owe.

Amyknows · 07/11/2024 13:48

Gosh your morals are low. You knowingly accepted it when you cancelled. You stole.

Greenqueen40 · 07/11/2024 13:49

No

Willsnbills · 07/11/2024 13:49

What??! No…good god it’s people pulling these sorts of tricks that ruins things for everyone else when hey decide to change policies etc I don’t quite understand how you did this anyway when my shopping gets ordered I get charged when they pull it the morning off of the delivery. So unless you’re cancelling it literally at the same time they’re pulling it. I don’t understand how you managed this.

Bugpuffin · 07/11/2024 13:49

I'd probably wait and see, rather than deal with the admin of calling them to try and pay, but I fully expect you'll be charged anyway.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 07/11/2024 13:49

Probably.

But I’m currently REALLY poor.

ohyesido · 07/11/2024 13:50

I'm a firm believer in "what you send out you get back times 3" so if I were you I'd get on the blower very quickly and pay the bill

FanofLeaves · 07/11/2024 13:51

I won’t lie, at the moment I’d be sorely tempted as I’m bloody poor and can’t actually afford to do a food shop all at once. Dunno if I’d actually do it though. Or what I’d do if they then tried to take the amount out of my bank account and found they couldn’t.

Onlyvisiting · 07/11/2024 13:52

No. Its stealing. The same as people who think getting away with not paying for items in checkout is some kind of game and not just as vile as shoplifting.
I also think you shouldn't have been able to cancel the order that late. On the day of it would already have been in process and you had left it too late to cancel.

JustWicked · 07/11/2024 13:52

There is a MASSIVE difference to getting something not scanned on your receipt or accidentally missing paying for an item and what you have done

You have delibrately attempted to defraud the grocery company. I hope they work it out and charge you

BilboBlaggin · 07/11/2024 13:52

No, I absolutely wouldn't, because I believe if I do something bad, something bad will happen to me (karma?)

Admitting you would be tempted isn't the same as actually doing it though.
Times are tough for so many of us, I hope something good comes your way soon.

Imagine coming online to boast that you're a common thief. Disgusting.

IcyLilacZebra · 07/11/2024 13:53

They will definitely find out and will take the money whenever your not expecting them to so call them and pay it seriously you clearly feel bad so posting here says you know you should be paying up

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/11/2024 13:53

No. Why would you?

i don’t know how it happened. I rang the morning of the delivery as I could no longer do it on the app as it was too close to the delivery. So rang up. Saw that it showed up as cancelled on my app. And the van still showed up. This was 9 days ago.

Got the refund.

Similar happened to a friend (where I got idea) and she told me they never found out.

No I wouldn't however maybe I'm a hypocrite because I once ordered a litre of tanqueray and got 3 litres and kept my trap shut 😂

Where you 'got the idea' - so you deliberately schemed the whole thing???

ProfessorInkling · 07/11/2024 13:55

I’d wait on it, maybe they’ll retry the charge, maybe they won’t.

I’m not boasting. Never once stole before. Always try do the right thing normally. I just chanced it. I have to be honest we were hosting a dinner party which didn’t go ahead so the nice items - wine, meat just tempted me to chance it.
