Where is Kamala?

Just saw this post on X, and I tend to agree...

"Kamala lost as she campaigned - a coward who couldn't face the media, couldn't handle the pressure. Didn't even have the character required to concede on election night. Went home to sulk. The opposite of presidential material."

Really and truly was there nobody with any substance the Democrats could have put forward. What on earth did they expect. The bar was so low.

@Nanny0gg 5:30am isn’t when every vote was counted… they are still counting and likely will be for days. 5:30AM is when it was considered a done deal and news decision desks called the election for trump. This is still a “projected” win.

Domino20 · 06/11/2024 19:41

There really is no hypocrisy, quite so unaware of itself, as right wing hypocrisy.
It's so astonishing to witness that it's almost a thing of beauty, an art form.

TheWinterWillWash · 06/11/2024 19:41

She lost as she campaigned - badly.

The excuse seems emblematic of her campaign. It’s hard to imagine a more technocratic US machine politics explanation for gracelessly failing to address your supporters on election night than “oh we didn’t have the speech notes fine tuned yet”.

‘A Harris aide says Harris’ team spent very little time working on a concession or victory speech & instead spent most of their time creating a speech that would tell people to “hold on” because they expected the race results to be uncertain at this time in the week.’

Swivelhead · 06/11/2024 19:42

Bush v Gore also happened. In fairness to Al Gore, he had 266 electoral college votes, so it was a lot tighter than either Trump's loss to Biden or Harris's even more emphatic loss to Trump. But contesting election results isn't just a Trump thing.

BruceAndNosh · 06/11/2024 19:42

She's still doing her concession speech quicker than Trump 2020. We're still waiting for that one

SpudleyLass · 06/11/2024 19:42

Actually, no.

Where is Joe? He is current President, not Kamala. He should be doing the peaceful transfer of power, not her.

Unless he is incapacitated?

Another climate change whack job. At least Trump knows the score.

LarkspurLane · 06/11/2024 19:43

When did Trump make his losing speech last time?

It seems that for some reason people expect the Democrats to behave better than the Republicans while still voting for the Republicans.

It’s because she’s pathetic. Never stood a chance. Shes probably laughing into thin air somewhere

What is “laughing into thin air” mean? Do you think she’s up a mountain?

You know I'd forgotten all about Biden.

SassK · 06/11/2024 19:46

I thought it was poor form of her to not speak at her watch party. She didn't need to say much, just an acknowledgement of the people there. That said apparently she's not great without a teleprompter; impromptu speaking isn't her strong suit.

I doubt poor Joe even knows he’s president at this stage. The elder abuse that occurred there to retain power was atrocious.

Summerhillsquare · 06/11/2024 19:47

The misogyny and double standards on this and many other election threads is depressing, if illuminating.

Because the woman candidate is not 'nice', or is not kowtowing sufficiently, bring on the fascists, eh?

freddyfluffball · 06/11/2024 19:27

Presumably she cares about her country and is devastated, I don't blame her at all for disappearing. Is Trump had lost he would have started a coup d'etat.

If she can't handle a short speech to her own disappointed and sad supporters. how was she considered world leader material? Can you imagine her trying to deal with a war, foreign dictator or catastrophic event?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/11/2024 19:48

Takoneko · 06/11/2024 19:36

How on earth could she have done the speech last night? The result wasn’t in until until around 5:30AM eastern time.

She obviously couldn't have done the concession then, but some of us were thinking of a thank you to the many party workers who did so much for her campaign and she didn't even manage that

And not everything has to be about "Yes but look what Trump did". We can agree - and many of us do - that he's ghastly, but that's no reason not to hope for something better from someone else

Edited to add we don't know where Biden is, @SpudleyLass - but then it's possible he doesn't either Sad

notquitetonedeaf · 06/11/2024 19:48

The starting assumption in blaming her is that if she had done something different she could have won. But in a country with deep unresolved veins of racism and misogyny an ethnic minority woman was always going to lose. If the democrats wanted to win, they should have picked a white man. Biden scuppered their chances by first squatting in a throne he was too feeble to command from, then anointing Harris as his successor.
I can't blame Harris. She wiped the floor with Trump in the debate. The problem goes deeper than that.

SpudleyLass · 06/11/2024 19:48

There needs to be a system in place for cases like this.

Even in his condition, I don't think Kamala ought be able to just assume this power of his. The US elected Biden, not Harris.

That said, I'm unsure of the ethics of it all. I'd like to see some proof of life I guess.

. Edited for ignorance.. apologies

PrincessOlga · 06/11/2024 19:50

Anyone excited for Kamala 2028?!

She's so sweet and I am pretty sure she can win the next primary, as she will have honed her speaking/debating skills pretty well in 2024.

Apologies I thought it was like it is here. When exactly does he become president then?

Like someone upthread said. She’d probably call on J-LO and Beyoncé to sing to the dictator and she herself would chant hope not hate at him.

The word pathetic sums her up well.

It’s not about misogyny.

Its about being gracious in defeat which in itself is a show of strength.

KH looks weak by not conceding and unprofessional by not thanking her supporters.

It doesn’t matter that she is woman.

It’s not about ‘being nice’

Also do you know what a fascist is ?

No one on this thread can be accused of being a fascist by what they have written here.

KoalaCalledKevin · 06/11/2024 19:55

Of course, but when a fair amount of the abuse she's getting is from Trump supporters (not necessarily on this thread, but generally), it is reasonable to point out the hypocrisy. You can't think Trump is presidential, then point out that because she didn't do a speech, she is not presidential.
