Nose piercing

TheWorstWeek · 28/10/2024 17:20

Is it daft of me, as a 35 year old mum of two, to want a nose piercing? I think dainty little nose rings look really lovely - on other people at least! Am I too old to be thinking of getting my first piercing since I did my ear lobes when I was 12?
Also, right or left nostril?

If you want it, do it. Others' opinions (I don't like nose rings on anyone so I don't have one) are not relevant here.

Alwayssomethingtheretoremindme · 28/10/2024 17:29

I know it's your body and you are entitled to do as you want with it but really just why?
I try very hard but when I meet someone with a notstril ring I really can't look them in the face. Just like when I see a bull with a nostril ring. It makes me feel physically ill.
I know a nostril ring is different but just why would you want to do that?
Especially when it is a young woman with children: the thought of them pulling at their face and at the ring the vulnerability makes me feel ill.

Scutterbug · 28/10/2024 17:31

I had my nose pierced at 45! I wear a stud. I went to the piercing studio with my daughters and we all had them done together, no regrets.

WonderfulUsername · 28/10/2024 17:31

I think you know that no-one here is going to tell you your age is something that should prevent you.

You clearly like them, although you'll get lots of unsolicited opinions about them now.

It's your nose, do it if you want.

'Just why?'

Well let's take a guess.

  1. The OP is being forced into getting her nose pierced by a gang of Brazillian unicorns.
  2. The OP hates them but is doing it for a bet because there's a tube of Smarties up for grabs.
  3. The OP wants to get her nose pierced because she happens to like nose piercings?

Take your time...

Because they want it done?

Elphame · 28/10/2024 17:37

Mine was done in my 40s. I wear a tiny diamond stud.

Make sure you tell the piercer that you want to wear ring though as the placement is slightly different. Initially you'll have a stud as it will heal better.

K0OLA1D · 28/10/2024 17:38

Do it op. I'm 34, I have had my nose, tongue and lip pierced since my early teens!

murasaki · 28/10/2024 17:38

I've had a stud in my left nostril since I was 19. I'm 47. Go for it.

murasaki · 28/10/2024 17:39

And only go to a place that uses a needle to pierce, not a gun. A proper tattoo place will probably have a piercing studio.

MaMisled · 28/10/2024 17:42

I pierced my own ( not recommended!) at 55! I saved and bought a tiny real diamond stud. I love it!

Emotionalsupporthamster · 28/10/2024 17:42

Do it! I recently got my first piercings since my lobes (done as a kid) and I’m 40. I love them.

clarepetal · 28/10/2024 17:44

I am 45 and had mine done when I was 16. I remember one of my mums friends hated it, she said I'd take it out after 6 months.
I still absolutely love it.

Do it.

Shessweetbutapsycho · 28/10/2024 17:44

Do it!!! Just take it out if you don’t like it

Alwayssomethingtheretoremindme · 28/10/2024 17:46

K0OLA1D · 28/10/2024 17:36

Because they want it done?

Well obviously they do it because they want it!!!
My question is why? It's not as if it's attractive.
I've always assumed it's a statement against the norms of societal norms of attractiveness. But I still don't understand why making such a statement is worth desecrating your body.
Same as tattoos actually: just why desecrate your body in that way?

JWhipple · 28/10/2024 17:46

Do it. I first had mine done when I was a teenager. Now have both sides done. Had my septum pierced a year ago as well. I'm 46.
Definitely go somewhere decent, my recent piercings have been at blue banana. There's a few branches. Really good and explain any aftercare. Otherwise look for local places with decent reviews

I find them attractive

Why don't you?

BeatsAntique · 28/10/2024 17:48

I got mine pierced at 40. It’s never too late!

Desecrate? Wow 😂😂😂

Mrscharlieeeee · 28/10/2024 17:49

I had my nose pierced at 34! 7 years later it's still there. I just wear a small silver ring and I love it. I am heavily tattooed though and never left my alt girl era so it's not out of line with how I look.

glasshouse · 28/10/2024 17:50

I had my tragus done in my 60s. Took me six months to build up courage which wasn't actually needed. Bit uncomfortable but not painful and has healed really quickly. If you want it go for it. Be prepared for no-one to actually notice though 🤣.

You may construct your appearance according to what you think is 'attractive' (to whom?) but that doesn't mean the rest of us do. I look the way I look because I like it, and I don't want, need or care about the approval of anybody else. Why would I?

Disturbia81 · 28/10/2024 17:52

I really don't understand questions like this.. how is a piercing in your 30s too old..

How absolutely pathetic of you. Good lord.

geminiflanagan · 28/10/2024 17:54

I had mine done at 41. Been thinking about it since I was about 20 and finally did it! Just find a decent studio. Highly recommend BLVD jewellery, I had mine done in well established place on Carnaby Street and then 4 days later had to have it swapped in a local studio to BLVD. Was much better after I had swapped from the cheap titanium, I went 14k gold with an opal so I feel very fancy with it
