Don't argue with the traffic warden on your school run

It made me laugh yesterday as 3 of the Mums driving stupidly big cars received parking tickets outside the school dates. They work on the safety lines that are outside schools and they only live a 7 minute walk from school and also don't work (I know of them). They came out and tried to argue their way out of the tickets saying "what? A parking ticket for dropping my kid off at school?"

I think it serves them right. I've parked on a single yellow near the school in a mega rush so I'm no angel but if you do that you accept that there is a chance you will get a ticket and can't complain if you get one can you!!?

Just made me laugh it was the 4x4 cars from the professional yummy mummies who all got them and then wanted to argue, talk about entitlement! Plus if you have a big car then surely a parking ticket is affordable?! That's part of the illusion of wealth is that you don't care!

Needless to say the areas are clear today so they've learned their lesson, for now at least! X

I'm all for ticketing anyone and everyone who parks where they're not allowed to, thus creating a hazard for other drivers or pedestrians.

But I couldn't give a shite if you're driving a lambourghini or a lada. Not whether you work or not.

Stormyweatheroutthere · 25/10/2024 08:55

There is 1 at dc's school
. Lives in the biggest house in the village. Parks like a dick every day. She is a school governor. Because the Head frankly must have lost her mind....

The head might not have been able to stop her appointment.

That's a fair point, ita more to illustrate the fact that they aren't rushing off to a job so no reason not to walk (they're all visibly mobile and don't use the disabled spots available)

I don’t disagree with an element of happiness that they’re getting ticketed, but cut the snobbery!

vodkaredbullgirl · 25/10/2024 09:00

Doesn't matter what they were driving, they are idiots for trying to argue with traffic wardens.

SophiaJ8 · 25/10/2024 09:02

No one should be parking outside schools regardless of what they are driving, and if they work or not. A poor working parent would have no justification either.

TickingAlongNicely · 25/10/2024 09:03

Those markings are for the safety of the children. Lod happily see dangerous school parkers towed not just a measly ticket.

StandardBox · 25/10/2024 09:06

You’re right, it is satisfying to see anyone who is parked like an idiot getting a ticket. However, I could live without the “yummy mummy” hate.

lilythesheep · 25/10/2024 09:11

They introduced a school street for our school to try to make the area outside the school safer for children. The upshot is that every morning and afternoon just outside the camera zone there are massive SUVs parked up on the pavement on the corners of each junction, blocking visibility for children crossing. It’s really dangerous and selfish as there is legal parking elsewhere, but it would mean they had to walk a couple of minutes. I would be over the moon if the council could get their act together to give these arseholes parking tickets.

ReshyAmina · 25/10/2024 09:11

You sound very pleasant.

Perfectly fine to laugh at the ticket issue, but so what they have big cars and don’t work. Are you jealous by any chance….?

JeremiahBullfrog · 25/10/2024 09:13

Good chance that that big car isn't really something they can easily afford and it's purely a status symbol for the insecure. Especially if their family relies on a single income.

What evidence do you have for that?

Plenty of people can afford big cars on a single income, easily.

Allfur · 25/10/2024 09:19

I would have enjoyed that too op, do they really need to transport their kids in 4 x 4s?

This. It’s pretty shit to bring other women down based on their work or car type. The biggest dickheads I see are usually male drivers, not the usual stereotypical ‘Range Rover mum’ type, since it’s usually mums doing the school run bad parking is attributed to this idea. There is one dad who not only parks on the Keep Clear yellows outside my eldest school, he often blocks the entrance to the car park for staff. Every single day without fail he’s there, it’s like he’s under the impression he’s a special case.

My other son’s school has the worst school time parking I’ve seen in my life, I turn up 30 mins early to avoid the chaos and by the time I’ve left drop off, there’s usually a car fully on the pavement parked next to my passenger doors. 90% of the time the returning driver is male. Incredibly rare to see a ticket officer, one time I did they told the man parked on the pavement just to move back a bit as he’d crept on to double yellows with his shitty parking 🙃.

A school where my children went to face a dual carriageway.
At the rear is a very large field which has now been made into
a carpark. (100 spaces) It takes an extra 2 minutes to walk to the doors where
the children exit.
Yet still parents park on the lines outside the front completely blocking one
of the lanes.

Trumptonagain · 25/10/2024 09:31

Anyone given a ticket when contravening parking rules deserves one outside a school or not.

As you say you've done it yourself...yummy mummy or hypocrit

You just haven't been caught yet.

have you put yourself forward to be a governor?

Completelyjo · 25/10/2024 09:35

What’s the relevance of the car they drive or the fact that they are SAHMs to your rant?

kittensinthekitchen · 25/10/2024 09:36

YABU

Simply because you seem to think those lines shouldn't be parked on solely to avoid getting a ticket. They are there to keep your children safe.

Completelyjo · 25/10/2024 09:37

The primary school is on the street next to mine and it closed to traffic for the 30 mins either side of school time so no one can park there. No doubt it winds some people up but I think it works well.

I look viably mobile and don't have a blue badge... but I'm not.

I have co-ordination issues (walk with a limp but most don't notice as its a subtle drag rather than a pronounced bounce), skeletal issues (I can fall as my joints aren't stable and dislocate easy) and the main issue breathing problems.

The (according to google) 9 minute uphill walk to my kids school takes over half and hour as I have to stop every 2 minutes and rest for twice as long. My lungs swell (broncospasm) and it can kill (same as the nurse that died when she ran from threatening kids recently).

I also don't have a blue badge as I currently can't drive and PIP is a literal nightmare of threats and inquisitions that badly effected my mental health so I dropped out of it.

I despise people parking on the double yellows and have TWICE been reversed into outside the school (as a pedestrian) and there a large safe car park 1 minute walk away on the flat but you don't have to LOOK obviously disabled to be disabled.

BeMintBee · 25/10/2024 09:42

What’s a professional yummy mummy? They sound stupid about the parking ticket but you sound pretty vile tbh. Check your own bad attitude before posting about someone else’s!

and yes I work and no I don’t drive a 4x4

No, the type of car you driver does make a difference. If you have a Fiesta or a Yaris you are far more likely to find a reasonable, non-obstructing parking space.

If you drive an enormous, unnecessary, status symbol SUV, you take up far too much room on the roads.

And Audi drivers need an extra driving test before they get behind the wheel of one. I don't know if Audis attract bad drivers, or the other way round, but the stereotype really does have some truth in it!
