Don't argue with the traffic warden on your school run

It made me laugh yesterday as 3 of the Mums driving stupidly big cars received parking tickets outside the school dates. They work on the safety lines that are outside schools and they only live a 7 minute walk from school and also don't work (I know of them). They came out and tried to argue their way out of the tickets saying "what? A parking ticket for dropping my kid off at school?"

I think it serves them right. I've parked on a single yellow near the school in a mega rush so I'm no angel but if you do that you accept that there is a chance you will get a ticket and can't complain if you get one can you!!?

Just made me laugh it was the 4x4 cars from the professional yummy mummies who all got them and then wanted to argue, talk about entitlement! Plus if you have a big car then surely a parking ticket is affordable?! That's part of the illusion of wealth is that you don't care!

Needless to say the areas are clear today so they've learned their lesson, for now at least! X

What’s a professional yummy mummy? They sound stupid about the parking ticket but you sound pretty vile tbh. Check your own bad attitude before posting about someone else’s!

and yes I work and no I don’t drive a 4x4

Somewhat lighthearted: professional yummy mummies are women in their 30s to early 40s, have a long swinging pony tail, wear their skinny jeans tucked into knee length boots and have an entitled air about them. They drive SUVs, or if walking their kids to school, walk several abreast with their buggies and kids on scooters on the footpaths.

I was never a yummy mummy - couldn't get the long blonde pony tail and my legs are too fat to fit into narrow boots Grin

As ever, a stereotype but one with some truth in it.

sharpclawedkitten · 25/10/2024 09:46

More seriously, I live near a school and the parking is absolutely terrible. Especially on a wet day. We need traffic wardens down here every day to ticket everyone in sight, but they are now employed by the county council rather than the district and apparently only come to our area once a week.

Bushmillsbabe · 25/10/2024 09:50

I wish they would come to our school.
We live less than 5 mins walk from the school and our street is clear of cars, but the street outside the school they are parked on double yellows, let kids out in the middle of the road. There is a supermarket approx 3 mins walk from the school where they could easily park safely, but nope, they have to be idiots.

My 9 year old asked me one day 'mummy why are they parked on the yellow lines, i thoyght that wasnt allowed' and a mum 'parked dangerously' shouted at her from her open car window 'I hope you're not talking about me'. It's ridiculous, the level of entitlement!

Delicious to see selfish parkers get their just desserts (we have one at nursery, she intentionally parks across drives even when other spaces are free), but you do sound a bit chippy OP. Not sure how they're professionals but also don't work. Confused

It means they are professional at being yummy mummies, it's tongue in cheek

Gloating is not classy
Even if they have received their comeuppance

She obviously meant professional yummy mummy as in women who describe themselves as "full time mummies" 🙄 are always preened to within an inch of their lives and drive ridiculous Chelsea tractors even though they have nothing better to do than walk

Classy is an aspiration?

User19876536484 · 25/10/2024 09:59

Plus if you have a big car then surely a parking ticket is affordable?!

Not necessarily. They generally cost a lot to buy and cost a lot to run, so maybe not much left over to pay for parking tickets.

BarbaraHoward · 25/10/2024 10:01

Ah right, ok @Allfur and @BalletCat , that makes sense. "Professional yummy mummies" reminded me of my friends who are solicitors, auditors, doctors etc - polished and gorgeous at the school gate and then off to work. And lovely with it too.

I'm a professional and a mummy but alas will never meet the yummy criteria. Grin

Allfur · 25/10/2024 09:57

Classy is an aspiration?

Where on earth did you get that from?
It is a simple statement - nothing to do with class.
Perhaps I should have said 'gloating is not what decent people do', or 'gloating is for those who have such paucity of fun in their lives, that relishing others' misfortunes is their entertainment'.
It all comes down to the same thing - gloating is not a nice trait

sharpclawedkitten · 25/10/2024 09:42

No, the type of car you driver does make a difference. If you have a Fiesta or a Yaris you are far more likely to find a reasonable, non-obstructing parking space.

If you drive an enormous, unnecessary, status symbol SUV, you take up far too much room on the roads.

And Audi drivers need an extra driving test before they get behind the wheel of one. I don't know if Audis attract bad drivers, or the other way round, but the stereotype really does have some truth in it!

No idea about the Audis but I agree with the rest

happytobee · 25/10/2024 10:06

Are they professionals or don’t they work? Also how strange that all 3 of them happen to have the same ‘yummy mummy’ lifestyle, 4x4 cars, no jobs and live 7 minutes away! You should suggest to them they help each other out with the school run !

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/10/2024 10:07

What have 4x4s got to do with anything?
My stepdad was complaining loudly about them one day until I pointed out that my electric hybrid 4x4, which I’ve used as a solid, reliable workhorse for 11 years (it’s 17 years old now, still ULEZ compliant) takes up less space in a car park than his polluting diesel BMW estate, which is 10 years younger.

Anyone parking on zig zags and yellows outside of a school is a dick whatever they drive.

lololulu · 25/10/2024 10:09

Yummy Mummy 🧐

redorangeye110w · 25/10/2024 10:09

For balance! The worst parking offender at my dc school is a man, is a very old beaten up car. He does not care at all and parks wherever he wants, he's also given a mouthful of abuse to anyone who dares to question him.

ATuinTheGreat · 25/10/2024 10:11

JeremiahBullfrog · 25/10/2024 09:13

Good chance that that big car isn't really something they can easily afford and it's purely a status symbol for the insecure. Especially if their family relies on a single income.

You know there are benefits to having an expensive luxury car for the owner, they don’t just get them for a “status symbol for the insecure.” They are a nice environment to be in, good to drive, safe for the passengers, nice for the owner to look at etc, etc.

Buying a car like this is not for the vast majority of people because they are “insecure” and want other people to be impressed - it’s for their own enjoyment.

Having a shit car doesn’t make you a better person.

Fiestytiger · 25/10/2024 10:11

I was wondering when the government consider climate change if they have considered making restrictions on the massive 4x4’s that most people don’t need. Unless you’re a farmer etc. Yes parking like a twat always seems to be the same people that think rules don’t apply to them.

There is 1 at dc's school
. Lives in the biggest house in the village. Parks like a dick every day. She is a school governor. Because the Head frankly must have lost her mind....

The head doesn't get to pick the governors!!!

The head is stuck with whoever is appointed.

See also, not being able to grow hair long and fit your cankles into long boots.

The jealousy from some women is really pathetic.

I'm all for ticketing anyone and everyone who parks where they're not allowed to, thus creating a hazard for other drivers or pedestrians.

But I couldn't give a shite if you're driving a lambourghini or a lada. Not whether you work or not.

I agree in theory, that it makes no difference what the car is but it is always these kinds of cars. I live opposite a school and when I'm blocked in it is always an Audi, BMW, Mercedes or a big 4x4 and when you politely ask them to move because you need to get our they say thing like they can't, or DD will be late or they'll only be a minute, you'll have to wait.

Loving across the roads from school can be a pain, but I suppose it did at least mean I never had to do a driving school run, which seems very stressful!

If she’s a Parent Governor the Head won’t have had a say in the matter!

Cas112 · 25/10/2024 10:25

I'm all here for ticketing people parking in places they shouldn't/being a nuisance on school run but why do you sound so bitter and jealous?

ImNunTheWiser · 25/10/2024 10:27

You’re no better than them. It isn’t about whether you complain about getting a ticket or not, it’s about keeping children safe near schools.
