Don't argue with the traffic warden on your school run

It made me laugh yesterday as 3 of the Mums driving stupidly big cars received parking tickets outside the school dates. They work on the safety lines that are outside schools and they only live a 7 minute walk from school and also don't work (I know of them). They came out and tried to argue their way out of the tickets saying "what? A parking ticket for dropping my kid off at school?"

I think it serves them right. I've parked on a single yellow near the school in a mega rush so I'm no angel but if you do that you accept that there is a chance you will get a ticket and can't complain if you get one can you!!?

Just made me laugh it was the 4x4 cars from the professional yummy mummies who all got them and then wanted to argue, talk about entitlement! Plus if you have a big car then surely a parking ticket is affordable?! That's part of the illusion of wealth is that you don't care!

Needless to say the areas are clear today so they've learned their lesson, for now at least! X

What’s the relevance of the car they drive or the fact that they are SAHMs to your rant?

Probably the fact that you don't need a Chelsea tractor to take kids to school especially when you live near enough to walk.
As for sahm, a lot of people use the excuse of parking near schools because they have a big important job to get to. Hth.

Stormyweatheroutthere · 25/10/2024 10:28

To give an insight into her standing with the head a collection was started to pay for her dh's private surgery. Ds was quite upset I refused the invite to donate £2 per dc.... I told ds they could sell 1 of their 4 vehicles or indeed their huge house if they were struggling...

OohShakiraShakira · 25/10/2024 10:30

Well, personally, I'm always happy to hear about inconsiderate, selfish, dangerous drivers getting a ticket, regardless of who they are 🤷‍♀️

It does my head in at my son's school. Always people parked on the yellow zigzags, on double yellows, blocking driveways, fully on pavements, on the corner of junctions etc. Even in front of school gates so none of the staff can leave!

The crazy thing is, is that I'm often arriving at the last minute due to work and I ALWAYS find a space on the road that runs parallel. It takes me 3 minutes to walk from my car to the school, but that road always has ample space, yet the entitled arseholes would rather park dangerously and illegally to save them and their kids the indignity of walking for more than a minute. The parking abd behaviour on the school run really makes me fear for humanity (only half joking)

Bag4Lyfey · 25/10/2024 08:58

That's a fair point, ita more to illustrate the fact that they aren't rushing off to a job so no reason not to walk (they're all visibly mobile and don't use the disabled spots available)

You don't know what anyone else is doing with their day.
I'm all for ANYONE being ticketed, but you sound like a smug working mum and it's not nice.

waterproofed · 25/10/2024 10:32

Your misogyny is showing, mate.

Amisillyornot · 25/10/2024 10:33

Genuine question - why so much hate against SUV mums?

FelixtheAardvark · 25/10/2024 10:35

UnderOverUp · 25/10/2024 08:58

I don’t disagree with an element of happiness that they’re getting ticketed, but cut the snobbery!

Oh come on! Mocking 4x4 drivers is a national sport!

80skid · 25/10/2024 10:36

I'd love to have effective parking enforcement outside my school. They stand in hi vis once a term and don't even approach the people who park on the zig zags day after day. As for the ones who park on and block the pavements....🤬

spiritgoat · 25/10/2024 10:38

This post said more about you than the yummy mummies.

DameKatyDenisesClagnuts · 25/10/2024 10:39

Tickets good
Massive chip on shoulder re size and value of cars and 'yummy mummies' not so good

PureBoggin · 25/10/2024 10:41

They deserve the tickets. But honestly, to get this much pleasure out of someone else's punishment and the comments you are making about your perception of their work arrangements and cars makes me wonder if you are ok? Most parents at my kid's school thought I was a stay at home mum. I wasn't. I just didn't talk to them about my job.

JSMill · 25/10/2024 10:46

I don't think being in a rush to work justifies parking in an unsafe space. It doesn't lessen the hazard just because someone had a really good reason for parking there.

Hoppinggreen · 25/10/2024 10:46

Anyone who parks illegally should get a ticket, not just women you are so blatantly jealous of

I look viably mobile and don't have a blue badge... but I'm not.

I have co-ordination issues (walk with a limp but most don't notice as its a subtle drag rather than a pronounced bounce), skeletal issues (I can fall as my joints aren't stable and dislocate easy) and the main issue breathing problems.

The (according to google) 9 minute uphill walk to my kids school takes over half and hour as I have to stop every 2 minutes and rest for twice as long. My lungs swell (broncospasm) and it can kill (same as the nurse that died when she ran from threatening kids recently).

I also don't have a blue badge as I currently can't drive and PIP is a literal nightmare of threats and inquisitions that badly effected my mental health so I dropped out of it.

I despise people parking on the double yellows and have TWICE been reversed into outside the school (as a pedestrian) and there a large safe car park 1 minute walk away on the flat but you don't have to LOOK obviously disabled to be disabled.

Not the point of the thread at all, but you can have a blue badge even if you don’t drive - you can use it when you’re a passenger in someone else’s car. Might still be worth applying.

Tulips543 · 25/10/2024 10:46

Waiting to speak to someone in the school office of our local primary school a few weeks ago. Parent in front of me had come in to see how to claim reimbursement from the school for the ticket they had received for parking on the zigzags!!

Matronic6 · 25/10/2024 10:49

We are constantly trying to deal with this issue at our school. Parents regularly park on double yellow lines, school safety lines, across a a cafe home entrance. We have sent a request out in nearly every single newsletter for about 4 years. We did a KS2 Persuasive writing unit focused om writing letters persuading parents not to park here and sent a copy home of the selected letter. A survey on it was a cross curricular topic for the year 6s last year.

Nothing has stopped a select group of parents from parking as close to school as possible. They seem to think the road markings do not apply to them during drop off/pick up. I may suggest SLT tips off council to send a traffic warden at that time, see if that has any impact.

Completelyjo · 25/10/2024 10:50

or if walking their kids to school, walk several abreast with their buggies and kids on scooters on the footpaths.

How dare a mother walk her multiple children to school while pushing a pram!

justasking111 · 25/10/2024 10:53

I know two school heads who report parents who park dangerously. The traffic warden books them, everything settles down until the new intake in September sigh ..

PointsSouth · 25/10/2024 10:54

They deserve the tickets. They don’t deserve your gloating, delighted contempt.

Of all the people in your story, who do you think appears the most unpleasant?

Moonchasing · 25/10/2024 10:55

ATuinTheGreat · 25/10/2024 10:11

You know there are benefits to having an expensive luxury car for the owner, they don’t just get them for a “status symbol for the insecure.” They are a nice environment to be in, good to drive, safe for the passengers, nice for the owner to look at etc, etc.

Buying a car like this is not for the vast majority of people because they are “insecure” and want other people to be impressed - it’s for their own enjoyment.

Having a shit car doesn’t make you a better person.

I am not against a 4x4 as I do believe they havee their uses. That said, I did a four wheel driving course many years ago (for my job), and I will never forget the instructor saying "you are driving a weapon". They may be safe for the passengers, but not for other road users/pedestrians.

waterproofed · 25/10/2024 10:32

Your misogyny is showing, mate.

This...the post is more about the mums, less about the parking.

dutysuite · 25/10/2024 10:58

I’m not sure what you want from this post.

GoldenPheasant · 25/10/2024 10:59

Stormyweatheroutthere · 25/10/2024 08:55

There is 1 at dc's school
. Lives in the biggest house in the village. Parks like a dick every day. She is a school governor. Because the Head frankly must have lost her mind....

Heads have nothing to do with appointment of governors.

AdoraBell · 25/10/2024 11:05

YANBU OP

When DD was in school we were in town and a driver was shouting at a traffic warden. I told DD that if you park legally you won’t get a ticket. Last year DH got a ticket, paid on his phone. He saw the warden and said I’ve still got 15 minutes, warden said yep, for the other car park, you didn’t pay for this one. 🤦‍♀️

Deportationsensation · 25/10/2024 11:05

Oh stop all acting like you don’t know what OPs angle is.

Im high maintenance, eyelashes, hair extensions the lot. But I’m also alternative so those women wouldn’t class me as one of them. But we all know the yummy mummies who go on the school run who rock up in the range rovers and gym sets and obviously think their better that everyone as they band together. Don’t lie.
