Don't argue with the traffic warden on your school run

It made me laugh yesterday as 3 of the Mums driving stupidly big cars received parking tickets outside the school dates. They work on the safety lines that are outside schools and they only live a 7 minute walk from school and also don't work (I know of them). They came out and tried to argue their way out of the tickets saying "what? A parking ticket for dropping my kid off at school?"

I think it serves them right. I've parked on a single yellow near the school in a mega rush so I'm no angel but if you do that you accept that there is a chance you will get a ticket and can't complain if you get one can you!!?

Just made me laugh it was the 4x4 cars from the professional yummy mummies who all got them and then wanted to argue, talk about entitlement! Plus if you have a big car then surely a parking ticket is affordable?! That's part of the illusion of wealth is that you don't care!

Needless to say the areas are clear today so they've learned their lesson, for now at least! X

You just sound jealous and nasty tbh.

There is 1 at dc's school
. Lives in the biggest house in the village. Parks like a dick every day. She is a school governor. Because the Head frankly must have lost her mind....

Not the head's decision.

I have a large car. I need to fit my wheelchair in.
Stop being so bloody judgemental.

Oh stop all acting like you don’t know what OPs angle is.

Im high maintenance, eyelashes, hair extensions the lot. But I’m also alternative so those women wouldn’t class me as one of them. But we all know the yummy mummies who go on the school run who rock up in the range rovers and gym sets and obviously think their better that everyone as they band together. Don’t lie.

Like minded women with similar interests and lifestyles making friends? Shocker!

Some people just have a chip on their shoulder around people with more money than them. The majority of women who wear matching gym sets and drive big cars are perfectly lovely, just like the women who do the school run with unbrushed hair.

DuncanMeBiscuit · 25/10/2024 11:16

I voted YABU because whilst you're completely right about the parking issue, the way you've put it is quite revolting.

Perhaps time for some self-reflection OP?

Once their parking fines have been paid, the issue will be over for them.

But yours will still remain.

MegaMay · 25/10/2024 11:18

Someones employment status or vehicle does not matter at all in this scenario and is in fact completely irrelevant.

You do not park on those lines for safety.
If you do, you should receive a ticket.
You have also done it, it is a safety aspect for your children and other peoples children and you shouldn't be so judgy when you were also too lazy to park further away and walk tbh.

Not the point of the thread at all, but you can have a blue badge even if you don’t drive - you can use it when you’re a passenger in someone else’s car. Might still be worth applying.

I know you can, I don't have one because PIP is a nightmare that pushed me to a break down.

MillyMollyMandHey · 25/10/2024 10:15

Having a shit car doesn’t make you a better person.

See also, not being able to grow hair long and fit your cankles into long boots.

The jealousy from some women is really pathetic.

I'm not jealous, I find these women rather empty. They need a hobby. And a career of their own.

Yummy mummy's who's whole personality is being the best mummy ever and lunching with other such women after having manicures and pressing their cashcows (sorry husbands) trousers bore me to to death. I've been to a few mum groups full of yummy mummys and there's not a personal interest in sight, fuck me it's dull! They yammer on a out how they could never leave little Jemima in childcare and their lives are just so full with all the little tea parties and school gate chats! It's all so vacuous. I thought it looked charmed until I tried it, after 4 months I was bored to death and went back to work.

I'll be down the stables with my horses teaching my daughter some actual skills and that there's more to life than cars and hairdos thanks. My hair is long and my riding boots knee high but I really don't see how that's supposed to make me feel fulfilled in life.

She's just jealous is always the go to put down for women but we are allowed to just think someones a twat you know.

FluDog · 25/10/2024 11:31

I prefer walking DS to school because the traffic is a pain in the arse. It's more hassle driving the car.

A school where my children went to face a dual carriageway.
At the rear is a very large field which has now been made into
a carpark. (100 spaces) It takes an extra 2 minutes to walk to the doors where
the children exit.
Yet still parents park on the lines outside the front completely blocking one
of the lanes.

In my small town parents drive along the main road, along a very narrow road and drop their High School dears at the school gate, whatever the weather. In the main road there is a path, maybe 100m, to the school across the playing fields, no hidden areas, but No, they drive past it and then have problems turning right into the main road on their return. Many of them live on a new estate maybe 300m down from the path too.

StrawberryCCC · 25/10/2024 11:45

The parking tickets are absolutely appropriate, but your snidey comments about their cars and not working make you sound spiteful.

From a FTWM who drives a Qashqai 😂

Stop being so bloody judgemental.

Most SUV drivers do not have disabilities and don't have to fit their wheelchairs in. Anyway there are plenty of cars that fit wheelchairs in or have good seating, and aren't massive tanks.

They are driving them because they like to be seen in expensive cars and also think they give them more protection, so they can bully others on the roads.

StandardBox · 25/10/2024 09:06

You’re right, it is satisfying to see anyone who is parked like an idiot getting a ticket. However, I could live without the “yummy mummy” hate.

This.

It really doesn’t make you look like a good person OP. Judgemental and jealous.

Happyhelping · 25/10/2024 11:51

I always love hearing about things like this 😅

lazyarse123 · 25/10/2024 10:28

Probably the fact that you don't need a Chelsea tractor to take kids to school especially when you live near enough to walk.
As for sahm, a lot of people use the excuse of parking near schools because they have a big important job to get to. Hth.

I often go for a walk at lunchtime and come back to my road about 2.30 and there will be half a dozen parents parked along it. The pick up for the infant and junior schools near my house is around 3.15.

So people arrive 45 minutes early (at least). They could definitely walk in that time, even if they are coming from work, as school catchment mean that most people live around 10-20 minutes walk away. And of course they sit there for 45 minutes plus with their engines running too.

PattiLupone12 · 25/10/2024 12:01

There are some categories of people you should never pick an argument with as there is simply no way that you will win, and traffic wardens are right up there (see also, the finance section at your work).

You can tell so much about someone's personality by how they park.

OP you could have posted this thread without the stinking judgment and misogyny.

They are ALL SAHMs with the same car and live the exact same distance from school? Extraordinary

God why is the go to insult for a woman you don't agree with always "You're just jealous" 🙄

Yummy mummy's are vacuous and boring and not something many of us actually want to be! The women driving Chelsea tractors, parking badly and causing problems for everyone else, when they actually have nothing better to do than walk to school are idiots and we don't have to be jealous to point it out!

I feel the same as you. Call me jealous if you like folks. The school where a parent ploughed into the playground killing two girls is on my route to work. At the time, a politician came out and asked “ do you need a 3 tonne vehicle to drop your kids off at school?”. Now it’s back to the parade of status vehicles blocking up the very narrow road every morning. Yummy mummies on manoeuvres with ridiculously large cars.

What is a yummy mummy?! A SAHM? They’re ALL vacuous and boring? You’ve met them all - crikey you must get nothing done

I don’t usually like “jealous” as a trope either, it’s lazy, but when people are go hateful and judgmental to strangers I genuinely can’t think of another reason it could be than jealousy

Didn’t she have an epileptic fit? Sadly no matter what car she was driving, it could have been a Fiat 500, that was always going to be fatal

TheGander · 25/10/2024 12:10

I don’t know the details and it’s not all been revealed publicly, looks like there is going to be a second enquiry.
