Vimto or Vimpto

How do you pronounce it?

For me, I say it like ‘Vimp-toe

Is this a Northern thing?

Also, can we agree a cold pint of Vimto is one of the best drinks ever

It was one of my (northern) dad’s favourite drinks and he always called it Vitmo to be silly. We’ve carried that on now he’s no longer with us, so much so I sometimes struggle to remember its proper name 😄

Woopthereitisman · 16/10/2024 22:42

@TulipTuesday Aww 💓

Well I'm northern and say vimto

DoAWheelie · 16/10/2024 22:42

I've only ever heard it as vimp-to but I'm also northern.

DramaAlpaca · 16/10/2024 22:43

I'm northern. I've never, ever heard of vimptoe.

recyclemeagain · 16/10/2024 22:43

I pronounce it with the p sound even though I know it's spelled Vimto. It's just the natural way to say it. I always thought of it as a Scottish thing Smile

Caerulea · 16/10/2024 22:43

Vimp-to for me too & not Northern. Used to love it till they swapped out the sugar & put sweeteners in.

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 16/10/2024 22:43

Northerner here, Vimto!
Ooh, after saying it a few times, it's like a p sound is subtly there 😳

recyclemeagain · 16/10/2024 22:44

@TulipTuesday that's lovely. Will think of that next time I drink some FlowersFlowers

Woopthereitisman · 16/10/2024 22:45

@ShinyPrettyThings87 You see 😂

Also Scottish and yes, a definite light p sound in the pronunciation

Octavia64 · 16/10/2024 22:46

Oooh I love warm vimto in autumn.

Don't know how I say it (ex. Northerner)

ShiteRider · 16/10/2024 22:46

Horrible stuff, but no p in it regardless. (Southerner who’s lived in the north for thirty years)

rainfallpurevividcat · 16/10/2024 22:47

I say Vimpto, as that's what everyone called it when we were growing up in Manchester.

Agree it's Vimpto - southern Scotland.

Caerulea · 16/10/2024 22:49

Just asked the 15yo & now he's very upset cos he's said 'vimto' too many times & is no longer sure HOW he says it

rainfallpurevividcat · 16/10/2024 22:49

Vimto is purest Manchester/Lancashire in a glass/mug 😂

It's not Scottish.

I mean the pronunciation not the actual origin of the drink 🤣

Edited

That’s a good description, not a strong p but slightly there. Scottish.

I’m Scottish and VimPto is the greatest soft drink alive! Have you ever found a pub that sells it on draft?! Sheer joy I tell thee!

recyclemeagain · 16/10/2024 22:52

@19lottie82 I have! They sell it on draft in Cosmo's if you have one of them near you (the world buffet place)!

I have been to Cosmo! And drank my body weight in Draft Vimto. I also love Dr Pepper and my new fave is Orange Mirinda, it’s something about the medicine like after taste that drives me wild.

19lottie82 · 16/10/2024 22:55

PS Food Warehouse does a case of 24 cans for a tenner, or 3 cases for £24

EmmyPankhurst · 16/10/2024 22:56

Scot.

I say it both ways. But if I'm not concentrating it's Vimpto.

FFSWherearemyglasses · 16/10/2024 22:57

Vimmy in our house and if we can’t get it (we live abroad) we have to settle for “Rola-Vimmy”
IYKYK 😂
