Am I too old for a Pandora charm bracelet?

MoreCardassianThanKardashian · 11/10/2024 11:15

I'm touching 40. I wanted a Pandora charm bracelet about 15-20 years ago when either they became really popular or I first noticed them. I didn't bother as they were expensive ish (especially to me, a pauper at the time) and really common.

Anyway, I recently bought my 13 year old daughter one (around the age range I feel they're manufactured for) and I've been completely taken in by their marketing and how good they look on DD, her friends, the store girls all of whom are a good 2,close to 3 decades younger than me and the idea of cute little treats and easy gifts for everyone.

Is it a kids thing and I'm past it or are they still cute? Is there a grown up version? 😂😂😂

I think it's ok to keep and wear one if you've had it from a young age but to buy one now is a bit "live, laugh, love"???

I am eyeing up the thomas sabo charm bracelet in blackened silver

@TheFormidableMrsC I still haven't ordered it 🤦🏼‍♀️scrolling through the millions of charms.

It's odd how cheap they are but I think it's likely that a)they're from china b) Pandora is overpriced

I do think that the charms are from China. As I said earlier in this thread, I wear a stack which contains 3 Pandora bracelets, two solid bangle types and one snake chain. I only wear a charm on the snake chain. I think that they're very simple and pretty if not overloaded.

Jukeboxjive · 17/10/2024 22:22

ARE they actually real gold or silver I've not read the thread but I am looking to get my girls one but ideally I'd like something real to last forever

HollyKnight · 17/10/2024 22:28

@TheFormidableMrsC I'm having a good look online and I really don't think they are silver-plated. Someone on Reddit had their charms acid tested and says the Gnoce ones are silver but Mula ones aren't. Could your friend have clicked a scam link on Facebook and bought a fake? Or maybe it reacted to her skin/perfume/lotion/body spray. Who knows.

I just know my bracelet is fine after 3 years (granted I don't wear it much) and the woman who recommended it to me hasn't said anything about hers tarnishing. But I only know of us two with them. The clasps can be temperamental on all charm bracelets which is why they have safety chains to stop the charms slipping off.

Both Pandora and Gnoce are sterling silver 925 with some being plated... according to Google.

I totally didn't think they were aimed at that age, I know plenty of adults with them. Get one!

SophieJo · 18/10/2024 07:15

Life is too short and you are not too old. Go and treat yourself!

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 18/10/2024 07:15

im getting one for my mum for her upcoming 70rh today.
Never entered my head that s charm bracelet has age connotations.
Do what you want - who cares about what others think or society’s ideals.

ABirdsEyeView · 18/10/2024 07:57

I think the quality of Pandora doesn't reflect the price. DD has a couple of rings and while they are very pretty, the stones look very cheap to me. Pandora charms are quite expensive to buy, but you aren't getting that value in materials imo. It's mass produced jewellery with very good marketing!

That said, if you love it and want it, then buy it. Life is too short not to have what you want, when you can afford it.

MissTrip82 · 18/10/2024 08:21

I thought they were aimed at middle-aged women! I didn’t know girls got them

Either way, if something makes you smile when you wear it and you can afford it then get it. It can be really nice to buy something that was out of reach in the past.

I have bought both Gnoce and Pandora for my daughters. I’m 45 and seem to be more drawn to Gnoce and could look for hours at the charms. I do think Gnoce are better value. I’ve never had issue with either.

I'm the worst procrastinator ever. So... I've ordered my mum a gnoce as her Christmas present and if it looks ok I'll get myself one 😂😂😂

I have a mixture of Pandora and Gnoce on my bracelet. I have had them years, I’ve not any problems with tarnishing.

Lucinda7 · 19/10/2024 00:39

I wanted something like a Pandora bracelet but I went for Clogau. I have some Welsh heritage so was swayed by that. I have silver charms with a touch of Welsh gold. You can get gold ones if you can afford it! I am 71.

Mermaidsarereal · 19/10/2024 07:16

I'm 35 and have had mine for around 15 years I've never taken it off, my mums in her 50s and also wears hers everyday. If you want one get one! It's a great gift idea for birthdays and Christmas too, my DH finds it so much easier to buy me charms and I like the fact that he's chosen them for me so each one is special.

GroovyChick87 · 19/10/2024 07:19

I admit I see them as a younger girls thing. I couldn't wear them as I don't like anything dangling from my wrist as it gets in the way and annoys me. But it doesn't really matter what I think. If you like them, get one. The only person whose opinion matters is yours.

Scottishgirl85 · 19/10/2024 07:21

I'm 39 and don't give 2 shits what other people think of me. I'm surprised you haven't reached that stage of mental freedom yet! Just enjoy life and do whatever the heck you like, as long as it's legal and not unkind :-)

@HollyKnight so it finally arrived. This is the one for my mum for Christmas and I'm glad it's for my mum. The charms are amazing but the bracelet itself is lovely and you get a safety chain which you have to pay £35 for with Pandora. However, it doesn't look as nice as the Pandora because it's a darker silver so looks a lot cheaper - which it is. I'm going to go for the Pandora bracelet and get a few of the gnoce charms.

Thanks so much for your advice. It's honestly been amazing!

You're never too old for anything.
All this ' too old ' shit drives me insane, whether it's hair, clothes, jewellery or anything else.
Your look has bob all to do with anyone else, wear what YOU want, not what anyone else wants.
Anyone who thinks someone is too old for something needs to grow up.

Aww I'm glad you like the charms! Yeah, the free bracelet isn't the nicest. I actually bought a Pandora bracelet off of Vinted for mine because I like a bargain (ie I'm a cheap ass 🙈). Just make sure you get a safety chain that fits because even the Pandora clasps fail at times.

Stormyweatheroutthere · 30/10/2024 19:04

My moody teen solemnly told me at 50 I was not too old for a hairband and I could indeed wear whatever I wanted...
So 3 years on I absolutely do!
I was even the first one in my family to buy Crocs!! Teen dd followed suit!
Be you op.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 30/10/2024 19:56

I'm a lot older than you and I've had a cheaper version in silver (the bracelet itself came from Argos, the beads mainly from craft shops and a few from Avon) for about 10 years. I don't wear it every day but I am quite fond of it. I probably wouldn't have got one from Pandora itself, not because of the cost, but because I like searching for unusual beads that I'm less likely to see on anybody else. I quite like the thought that probably nobody has got quite the same combination as me. I wouldn't absolutely rule out getting a bead or two from a Pandora shop if they represented something that was important to me, but so far I haven't. I definitely wouldn't buy a ready-curated bracelet with a whole collection of thematically similar beads. But I wouldn't look down my nose and someone who did - I just like things that are a bit different. I certainly don't think the Pandora designs are ugly and I don't think they're confined to one age group either. Surely the whole point of a charm bracelet is that you collect stuff for it over a lifetime.

I’m 30, I’ve had one for about 15 years and have now got a few different ones. You’ll have to prise mine off my dead body and even then I’ll haunt you for it back 😂

if you want one then go for it

Trinity69 · 30/10/2024 20:03

I’ve asked for one for Christmas. I’m 44.
