Am I too old for a Pandora charm bracelet?

I'm touching 40. I wanted a Pandora charm bracelet about 15-20 years ago when either they became really popular or I first noticed them. I didn't bother as they were expensive ish (especially to me, a pauper at the time) and really common.

Anyway, I recently bought my 13 year old daughter one (around the age range I feel they're manufactured for) and I've been completely taken in by their marketing and how good they look on DD, her friends, the store girls all of whom are a good 2,close to 3 decades younger than me and the idea of cute little treats and easy gifts for everyone.

Is it a kids thing and I'm past it or are they still cute? Is there a grown up version? 😂😂😂

I think it's ok to keep and wear one if you've had it from a young age but to buy one now is a bit "live, laugh, love"???

Hmmm yeah I’m not a fan, they are so ubiquitous, but I think on one hand get it if you like it. On the other, something not quite right with wanting to wear what your 13 year old does,

😂 never thought of it that way. Perhaps I'm just desperately trying to recapture my youth.

Wow, marketed at kids? Have you seen the price of the genuine Pandora charms??
There are some cheap imitiations which I personally think look cheap and some of the Pandora charms are a bit odd but there are plenty of lovely ones too. I have had one for about 15 years and wear it every day.

Had never considered it a kids thing or as having any sort of age-related factor until this post popped up.
As others have said, if you like them then get one.

Yes I have. I created a wish list last night. Spilt kids haha

I got one from DH for my 50th and I love it.

Tarantella6 · 11/10/2024 17:44

I am 39 and I've got a cord one, with a selection of battered charms that I love. Because the charms thread onto the cord it does not hang off my wrist or jangle.

I wear it with a garmin running watch though so I'm not really one to worry about appearances, I might not be your target audience 😁

Growlybear83 · 11/10/2024 17:48

What has age got to do with wearing a charm bracelet? I've got three Pandora bracelets, one of which I haven't taken off for several years, apart from medical procedures, and I'm 66. My mum wore a traditional dangly charm bracelet constantly, which she didn't take off until she had a stroke when she was 95. If you want one, buy one!

Turbo4 · 11/10/2024 17:49

I am the same age as you and I have one with 1 charm and I love it! Only had it a year so not that long. Also have a few other Pandora bits such as earrings/studs and a necklace.
My mum also has one and she got it the same time and she is 60. Never too old in my opinion.

Twentypastfour · 11/10/2024 17:50

Hm my only concern would be what your daughter would think? I think I would have been a mit mortified if my Mum had started copying my jewellery / style when I was a teenager!

If she wouldn’t mind then just get one.

Rubyupbeat · 11/10/2024 17:50

If you like them, then get one. I've got to the age of 60 and realise nobody really cares what you wear, the ones that do are just saddos.
I wear my aunts silver charm bracelet, as a child I loved playing with it and admiring the tons of charms on it.
When she left it to me, I kept it in a drawer for over 5 years, as I deemed it too old fashioned. But I would regularly get it out and relive memories, until I thought, sod it! And I wear it regularly.
Please do the same with a pandora bracelet, do what makes you happy.

Justkeeprollingalong · 11/10/2024 17:50

I'm 71 and have one! I've had it for 17 years and still wear it.

Wow a lot of responses very quickly!

To the people who say they have one - when did you get it? If I already had it, I think I'd proudly wear it but if I buy it now, I feel like I'm trying to be young and cool. I think @lovemelongtime has it.

I am 45 and I have 3!! Got my first one when I was 42!
I know some people think they are tacky but I love mine and I don’t really care if others don’t like them. They are full of charms from holidays we’ve been on and I always feel happy when I look at them.

wulves · 11/10/2024 17:53

I don’t believe in getting too old to wear what you like. If I live long enough I’ll be a 90 yr old in skinny jeans and a hoodie because that’s what I like, out of fashion or ‘inappropriate’ or no 🤷🏻‍♀️

Katy123g · 11/10/2024 17:58

I'm confused as to how you came to the conclusion that Pandora is for teens.

I'm 38 and have a couple. My mum who was 64 and had two as well.

To be honest, while I don't actually know for sure as don't know any teen girls, I assumed that Pandora would be seen as being a bit uncool and mumsy?? That's just my impressions. I could be wrong.

I have bought my 12yo DD one for Christmas and previously one for my DDs 13th birthday. They are very big around my area for (pre)teens.

I think you should buy and wear what you want OP. I did have one a few years ago, only ever had the one charm though. I only stopped wearing it because I couldn’t wear any bracelets for a few years, I now just wear a medic alert bracelet.

Well I stand corrected 😂.

Have seriously not seen young kids wearing them although thinking back my two were fascinated with mine when they were younger, I just didn't consider buying them one of their own.
It didn't cross my mind & I guess they didn't ask, they just liked fiddling with my one and looking at the charms

OrangeTeabags · 11/10/2024 18:00

Anyway, wear what you like.
I am considering buying similar trainers to one of my kids.

She's fine with it - I checked!

We will be doing that together!

@MoreCardassianThanKardashian I thought they were only for women our age… teenagers round here don’t wear them!

MoreCardassianThanKardashian · 11/10/2024 18:07

Hmmmm that does look far classier but it's a hell of a lot of money. I'm comfortable but I'm not Tiffany comfortable. I'll be having a proper look later.

Genuine thank you to everyone recommending alternatives. I've looked at most and will continue to look through.

I'm 41 and I have a charm bracelet! They're not to everyone's taste but I love mine. It's from Trollbeads though, which is (I think) much nicer than Pandora at a similar price point.

Troll beads are wonderful!

SmallChanges3 · 11/10/2024 18:48

I have one and I'm in very close to reaching my 40s.

I was on holiday and met a couple - the husband would choose a pandora charm for his wife from every destination they visited. They were older than me.

I have charms to signify important events, births, deaths, graduations etc. Buy one.

No, I bought my 67 year old mum one last year! She bought me one years ago (I'm 35) and buys me a charm every Xmas/birthday, and she loves them, so now she has her own which she wears every day.
My sister has one at 45.
My best friend has one with more charms than I've ever seen!
Why would you be too old? Enjoy it ❤️

Didn't mean to quote the op (hate that!).

Londonrach1 · 11/10/2024 21:53

Up to you if you like them. I personally don't as they look clumpy and big. I prefer something different, small and understated but that's my taste. You never too old for something if you like it....

I have a Gnoce one. I love their selection of charms. Mine is filled with tiny photos of my pets and family and important memories. I don't wear it out because it's too big and bulky but DH knows if I drop dead it must go with me in my coffin.
