Am I too old for a Pandora charm bracelet?

I'm touching 40. I wanted a Pandora charm bracelet about 15-20 years ago when either they became really popular or I first noticed them. I didn't bother as they were expensive ish (especially to me, a pauper at the time) and really common.

Anyway, I recently bought my 13 year old daughter one (around the age range I feel they're manufactured for) and I've been completely taken in by their marketing and how good they look on DD, her friends, the store girls all of whom are a good 2,close to 3 decades younger than me and the idea of cute little treats and easy gifts for everyone.

Is it a kids thing and I'm past it or are they still cute? Is there a grown up version? 😂😂😂

I think it's ok to keep and wear one if you've had it from a young age but to buy one now is a bit "live, laugh, love"???

I got one for my 30th birthday, I love it. Like you, I would’ve loved to get one when I was younger but I never did. I like that people close to me buy me charms as presents now and then, it feels like a very personal piece of jewellery now.

Wow a lot of responses very quickly!

To the people who say they have one - when did you get it? If I already had it, I think I'd proudly wear it but if I buy it now, I feel like I'm trying to be young and cool. I think @lovemelongtime has it.

Honestly, I things it has been a while since Pandora was regarded as 'cool', so that won't be an issue. It's just a fairly ubiquitous brand now, that people buy because they like it, not because of the hype (which has long since died down).

If you would love one, buy one.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 11/10/2024 15:10

My DH got me one for my 40th. I'm not entirely sure I wanted one. I think he just made his own gift dilemmas a lot easier. Its a bit of a joke now if something new happens. In the last few years I have received a house charm, a dog charm and (unfortunately) a car charm. It's still nice though and I do wear it occasionally especially if we are out together.

BeeCucumber · 11/10/2024 15:14

I wear all sorts of bracelets and bangles - including Pandora. I got my first one in my 40’s. Jewellery is for wearing - not keeping in a box in a drawer.

Duckyfondant · 11/10/2024 15:20

I'm a wear what you want type but I do think you should ask you daughter how she feels about it. You might make hers feel less special (read: less cool)

They are an absolute dream gift for male givers. It requires very little effort and Pandora have done all the sentimental thinking for them. My dh bought me one when we got together ten years ago. I did wear it for a good few years and got lots of ‘meaningful’ charms from him 🤣

Fairyliz · 11/10/2024 15:48

I personally don’t like them but I have several friends who have them and we are in our 60’s. So no you are not too old if you want one and can afford it.

moomoomeow · 11/10/2024 15:52

42 here, had one for about 10 years. The charms were gifted by friends and family (gradually) when my mum got me the bracelet; so it is a meaningful piece of jewellery (although I always thought (and still think) they're overpriced/no monetary value as it's only silver).

Get a bracelet and a couple charms to begin with and start collecting charms; it definitely isn't a young people thing!

Aren't you an absolute delight !

Gangof7 · 11/10/2024 15:58

I’m 66 and I have a few different ones. Pandora has kept my OH going for years with Christmas & birthday presents 😁 never even thought about an age limit 😬

Pickingmyselfup · 11/10/2024 15:59

Not at all, I'm a similar age and did consider one a few years back but I got put off because I heard they were really heavy and they are too chunky for my wrists too.

I have a notch bracelet, they do all kinds of different charms. I used to have a Thomas Sabo? one but it was dangly and was forever getting caught on stuff. Plus it went a bit funny after a while.

TheDogsFavouriteSong · 11/10/2024 16:12

You have wanted one for 20 years, are you really going to let others, who might not like it, stop you from getting one? That's crazy. Just buy what you like. Unless this is just a thread to get people to say more and more snobby things about Pandora. 🤔

BashfulClam · 11/10/2024 16:20

My husband bought me one two years ago. I’m 45, I love changing around the charms and I buy a charm in every city so I have a London Big Ben charm, an NYC charm, a Prague charm of Charles bridge, a Spain charm etc. I also have Christmas themed charms to change it up at Christmas.

I answered OPs query

Ah no, I liked them a lot for about 5 years a long time ago and forgot about them until maybe a year ago. Still long enough to just buy one so great point!!!

Wow, marketed at kids? Have you seen the price of the genuine Pandora charms??
There are some cheap imitiations which I personally think look cheap and some of the Pandora charms are a bit odd but there are plenty of lovely ones too. I have had one for about 15 years and wear it every day.

Had never considered it a kids thing or as having any sort of age-related factor until this post popped up.
As others have said, if you like them then get one.

Dis626 · 11/10/2024 17:01

I'm 43 and wear 2 of them every day. I've collected charms for years so have lots of special ones on there.

Frankensteinslittlefriend · 11/10/2024 17:08

Hmmm yeah I’m not a fan, they are so ubiquitous, but I think on one hand get it if you like it. On the other, something not quite right with wanting to wear what your 13 year old does,

Which thirteen year olds are wearing Pandora bracelets?
They aren't where I Iive?
I think they would look odd on kids that age & can't see why they would want to wear them.

Aren't they all wearing Taylor Swift-style bracelets? That's all I ever see on kids that age.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 11/10/2024 17:39

I'm 50 and I wear a Thomas Sabo charm bracelet, it's a simple silver one and despite having over 100 charms, I only wear one or two at a time. The current charm is a silver open heart with 'love' across it

Edited

I have bought my 12yo DD one for Christmas and previously one for my DDs 13th birthday. They are very big around my area for (pre)teens.

I think you should buy and wear what you want OP. I did have one a few years ago, only ever had the one charm though. I only stopped wearing it because I couldn’t wear any bracelets for a few years, I now just wear a medic alert bracelet.
