To not feel very sorry for Rebekah Vardy

This Rebekah Vardy Colleen Rooney business has ended up costing a huge amount of money. Now RV has to pay costs of £1.6 million. Total madness. Why did she do it. Obviously thought she'd win. The phone falling into the sea. Hmm how convenient.

Lawyers who can only stay in expensive hotels or book at short notice, and whose costs seemingly cannot be challenged, is a wrong that does not make things right.

The laws on defamation are a rich person's thing that in many cases (not this one) are used to bully people into silence.

Babbadoobabbadock · 08/10/2024 18:08

Hasn't she also been accused of leaking something in the Kyle Walker affair too ??

Yes. The texts that Kyle's wife sent to Rebekah Vardy in confidence years ago somehow found their way to the press a few days ago. I think that seeing as Vardy is now friends with Lauryn Goodman, she forwarded them to Goodman, and it was her who gave them to the press.

I'm really glad that Vardy has lost this court case. The fact she allegedly found it difficult to find a law firm to even take on the case should have told her it was foolhardy.

meganorks · 08/10/2024 18:18

No sympathy from me. The whole case was hilarious really. She was suing for 'defamation of character'. Only to have to stand up in court with it being shown time and time again that it was, in fact, her character. I guess she thought if the phone got lobbed in the sea they couldn't prove anything. Instead they showed loads of examples of what an awful person she is.

Or, as my dad would say, 'play silly games, win stupid prizes'

Viviennemary · 08/10/2024 18:31

I'd not heard of Rebekah Vardy leaking messages she exchanged with Kyle Walkers wife a few years ago. But now apparently she's friends with his mistress. What a piece of work.

Apparently there are even 'mistakes ' made about how much the hotels and room service was according to Vardy's solicitors. The room service was 2 bottles of water, and the hotel was the same price as a Premier Inn.
Apparently it's going to be a case of going through it all. Mrs Vardy really should have apologised.

FileyCoyote · 08/10/2024 18:36

She’s an unpleasant grifter with no sense of her own limitations. Her friends have led her to believe she’s intelligent/witty/a force of nature and this deluded mindset gave her the misplaced confidence to pursue an unwinnable case. I have absolutely zero sympathy for her and her ilk but am grateful for the entertainment provided by the whole shitshow. She’s the gift that keeps on giving.

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 08/10/2024 18:36

RV gets zero sympathy from me. She could have met CR via mediation but wanted her day in court.
The fact is that the Rooneys have the type of wealth VR could only dream of. And CR has acquitted herself with decorum.
The initial reveal might have been seen as unwise, but I think it was brilliant. A clever move indeed.

Nobodyknowsitall5 · 08/10/2024 18:38

I think she just wants attention and she doesn't care if that attention is good or bad.

I don't think she could have foreseen the £1.6m bill. Somebody told me they didn't have that sort of money. Not to waste on ridiculous court cases anyway.

She should pay! She knew the risk

I'm guessing you haven't read today's update where this has been shown to be more lies and exaggerations from the Vardy camp.

TidyDancer · 08/10/2024 20:24

I've had a dislike for Vardy since she revealed her true character on I'm a Celebrity years ago. She was vile. I still can't begin to fathom why she even pursued this case. All she's done is cement the knowledge that she did exactly what she was being accused of. I'm glad this went Colleen's way

I didn't see that. But she doesn't come over as very likeable to say the least.

My dad is a 76 year old man. Before this court case he had never heard of Jamie or Rebekah Vardy or even Colleen Rooney. He vaguely knew Wayne Rooney was a footballer but he wouldn’t have been able to pick him out of a line up. He is not all that interested in football.

He is, however, very interested in the law.

He read every word of the judgement and now has a very strong opinion on Rebekah Vardy’s character.

Had Rebekah Vardy made a quiet “I didn’t do this” statement at the beginning then everyone would have thought “oh - who cares!” And moved swiftly on. Within 6 months most people wouldn’t have been able to remember which WAG allegedly leaked the story anyway.

Instead you have 76 year old men who know all about it.

PaperGloves · 08/10/2024 21:13

I met her a couple of times years ago, and she appeared on a cursory acquaintance to be the same aggressive, gobby, dead-eyed, fluorescent-toothed person as she appears in the media. The only time I can imagine her being useful would be in a fight — she’d be an eye-gouger whom you’d rather have on your side than not.

RobertaFirmino · 08/10/2024 21:25

It's Jamie I feel sorry for. The man is 37 years old and he's no James Milner. He should have retired a few years ago and be embarking on management. Instead, he's got to spend another season slogging it out on the pitch to pay his wife's legal bills.

pavementgerms · 09/10/2024 07:11

Pure ego drove her to take the legal case. It's not like she had a stellar reputation to try and repair; most who knew who she was thought little of her. I have no sympathy.

TwistedWonder · 09/10/2024 07:29

She’s a vain shallow vapid ego driven drama queen who thinks her own shit doesn’t stink.

This whole court case has been a complete waste of her husbands money - how he tolerates her I have no idea.

Shes a nasty little mean girl gossip who hit found out and I’m glad Colleen called her out on it. More fool Vardy for dragging this out rather than quietly say ‘yes sorry’ but hey as long as hubby can kick a ball fur another year are won’t stop sending his money on her ridiculous futile court battles.

Edited

I presume they live in a house worth much more than that

pilates · 09/10/2024 07:33

Nasty piece of work - no sympathy here.

GoldyHorn · 09/10/2024 07:40

What an absolute fool she made of herself.

It's quite clear she had never come across anyone with any intelligence before and in court she seemed to think she could just dress up in a suit and say 'it wasn't me' and that would be the end of it. She didn't seem to realise that there would be people listening in court and asking questions and following things up.

NashvilleQueen · 09/10/2024 07:47

She ought to have foreseen a bill of that level because her lawyers will have warned her. The fact they're arguing about it doesn't mean it wasn't presented as a worse case scenario.

She was given the chance to settle a long time ago and yet, despite knowing that she had done exactly what Colleen Rooney had alleges, she pursued the claim. Insanity.

MushroomBrioche · 09/10/2024 08:18

I think what everyone has loved about this whole debacle is that the mean girl got her comeuppance very publicly. Colleen comes across as honest and decent whereas Vardy comes across as a nasty, vindictive lunatic.

Fucking brilliant, I’m dying 🤣
