To not feel very sorry for Rebekah Vardy

This Rebekah Vardy Colleen Rooney business has ended up costing a huge amount of money. Now RV has to pay costs of £1.6 million. Total madness. Why did she do it. Obviously thought she'd win. The phone falling into the sea. Hmm how convenient.

No sympathy from me. The whole case was hilarious really. She was suing for 'defamation of character'. Only to have to stand up in court with it being shown time and time again that it was, in fact, her character. I guess she thought if the phone got lobbed in the sea they couldn't prove anything. Instead they showed loads of examples of what an awful person she is.

Or, as my dad would say, 'play silly games, win stupid prizes'

'Play silly games, win stupid prizes'

My grandad used to say that, not heard it for years. Such an underused gem!

If I were Jamie Vardy, I would be hiding my money in Davy Jones's locker, she won't find it there.

To be fair, even nowadays I still chuckle regularly about Davy Jones' locker.

There is a list of vexative litigants, people who have to seek permission from the courts before they are permitted to bring legal actions.

I used to know someone who was on the list.

If you are not on the list, the solicitor will take you at face value.

Let's hope RV doesn't make the list.

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/vexatious-litigants#:~:text=Vexatious%20litigants%20are%20individuals%20who,listed%20as%20a%20vexatious%20litigant.

I very nearly put someone on the list of vexatious litigants once. Sometimes it's absolutely a public service.

SandandSky · 12/10/2024 17:43

I was not invested in the whole Wagatha Christie thing at all. And then on a whim I watched the Colleen Rooney documentary… wow I was hooked 😂 and actually think Colleen sounds like she has a really smart head on her shoulders. I like her.

DalRiata · 12/10/2024 17:44

Arraminta · 09/10/2024 13:42

She's nothing but a gobby, uneducated chav. Her inner circle of similarly gobby, uneducated chavs deluded her into thinking she had anything useful or interesting or intelligent to say. She clearly hadn't.

She looks and sounds like she should be working in a chip shop.

I think she did once work in a chip shop.

Wow, some of those date back to the 1950s! It sounds like a whole new world of spite and vindictive behaviour. And you stay on the list even when you are dead it seems, though maybe it doesn’t get updated very often. It’s hardly the thing you are going to have on your things to do/ people and government departments to inform list when your mean aunty drops off her perch.

I don’t feel sorry for Rebekah Vardy in the slightest but I do find it uncomfortable that a law firm took on her case when she was so obviously going to lose. I’m sure they advised that and she decided to proceed like an idiot but feels slightly shady.

It actually wasn’t obvious she was going to lose - hence why Colleen offered to settle several times.

She had a good case as the documentary shows since, while the posts could originally be tied to her account, there was at the start no evidence that tied them to her.

Her case fell apart due to her behaviour but at the start, a reputable firm of lawyers (which RV’s are):

  1. Would have accepted her saying she didn’t personally make the posts or know about them (because only an idiot lies to their legal team).
  2. Could never have expected the disappearing evidence (WhatsApp chats being deleted in a way never seen before or since, her agent’s phone being accidentally dropped into the North Sea etc.)

I don't really get what Colleen was so annoyed about.

Colleen put photos on instagram. She had friends on instagram that were obviously going to see them. Obviously one of those people is going to give the photos to the press.

If you don't want photos out there, don't use instagram

This was actually a key issue in the trial - did Colleen have an expectation of privacy when she put her private life online.

RV’s lawyers took her through pretty much every follower on her private account and she was able (I think from memory) to say whose account each one was and how she knew them.

As for ‘someone was going to sell them’, she’d been followed by most of them for years and none of them ever had. She thought RV was her friend and trustworthy. Also, RV didn’t sell the pictures - she was trading them for positive press on herself not cash so the ‘someone will sell them because tabloids pay well’ is actually wrong.

Do you have an expectation to privacy if you put photos on a private instagram account.

What does the law say?

Say for example I am friends with someone on instagram.

Their account is private and my account us private.

But I show their photos to someone else.

Is that breaking the law.

This wasn’t a criminal trial. There was never any suggestion RV broke the law. She didn’t.

The question is rather, if you show a private picture to someone else:

  1. Did the person who posted it have a reasonable expectation you wouldn’t?
  2. Is publicly accusing you of showing it to someone else (bearing in mind you have just said you did this) defaming your character?

Legally, I don’t think Colleen could have sued Rebekah for giving the photos to the press (maybe there is some sort of copyright issue, as with Meghan’s letter to her father being published, I don’t know). However, Rebekah sued Colleen for publicly saying she (RV) gave the photos to the press. Which the court judgment establishes she did.

Truth has always been a defence to both libel and slander.

OK.

So rebekah was stupid to bring it to court.

I can kinda see why she did, as her name was trashed at that stage.

But I dont know why she thought she would win in court. It just cost her more money

Roundthemoon · 12/10/2024 19:16

I don't think that Colleen should have said it publicly really.

She should have dealt with rebekah privately, and Colleen should have tightened the privacy of her own instagram account.

It has ruined rebekahs life in a lot of ways.

She chose to stab Colleen in the back while pretending to be her friend. Some of her private descriptions of Colleen came out in the case - they were incredibly nasty.

Colleen had no obligation to cover up Rebekah’s behaviour. As far as I’m concerned, Rebekah ruined her own life.

Yeah but in the grand scheme of things, its not that big of a deal. Lots and lots of people sell stories or give them to the press.

Why say it publicly. Other celebrities don't.

I would have just deleted rebekah from my insta and tell her if I had to that, I wasn't using it much anymore

She tried that - Rebekah emailed asking to be added back on. I think Colleen got fed up of her nerve.

Wellingtonspie · 12/10/2024 19:40

Colleen did everyone a favour outing that Rebekah was a snake publicly now anyone who decides to be friendly with her knows what they share may become public.

It’s not like she was a police snitch for a good reason she did it to look better in the papers because she needed good press.

Roundthemoon · 12/10/2024 19:46

Do you guys really think that it was rebekah?

She said that a lot of people had access to her account.

Private instagram accounts are never really private.

For example my cousin has a private insta account. She only wanted one aunt as an instagram friend out of all of our extended family, as that aunt was her godmother.

However this aunt shows my cousins photos on instagram to everyone else in the family

Wellingtonspie · 12/10/2024 19:56

Then it was still… Rebekah vardys account 😉

Yeah I know Colleen worded it correctly.

I'm not asking about that.

I'm saying do you guys actually think it was Rebekah?

As someone else said online, it could have been someone that hacked into Colleen's account.

Looking at vardy and all her stuff that’s come about and her texts about Colleen’s sister? 100%

Just like how the texts Annie sent to Rebekah about Lauryn have suddenly been leaked and Vardy is now Lauryns buddy. She waits till she has a “well I showed so and so” till she leaks so she can try and deny. The common theme here is Vardys loose lips

You know you’re scraping when Lauryn is your next bestie who’s only visible mate Lisa who was also a mistress who hasn’t got over her “ex” child’s father.

itwasnevermine · 12/10/2024 20:02

@Roundthemoon I do think it was her.

All the evidence pointed to it being her. On the balance of probabilities the statement from Coleen was true. The fact RV doesn't seem that popular suggests to me that everyone knows what she's like

Why do you insist this is normal behaviour?I know a number of people in the public eye through various channels. Have I seen things they might not want in the public eye? Yes. Would I sell that information? No. Because I’m not an arsehole.

It really takes a snake to use information you have gained from a position of privilege and then sell it. Especially when your husband is on £5m pa.
