A duvet that never has a cover on

Is this weird?

Buying a duvet from Primark etc and not buying a duvet cover, just using this duvet as it is?

Anyone do this?

Well, it's not usual no. What are the circumstances. Student bedsit, struggling elderly person, someone totally skint?

LeopardPrintIsANeutraI · 06/10/2024 16:54

Ugh no.

And I say that as someone with fairly low standards!!

SilenceInside · 06/10/2024 16:55

You can buy coverless duvets where the whole thing can be washed, that would be better than using an ordinary duvet without a cover on it.

BobbyBiscuits · 06/10/2024 16:55

I don't know anyone who'd do this unless they were in very severe financial hardship. But having said that it's not really gross, as long as it fits easily enough into the washing machine and gets cleaned regularly. But surely washing a cover is less laborious than a whole duvet?

bergamotorange · 06/10/2024 16:55

Depends. Eiderdowns didn't have covers. A sheet went underneath.

A light duvet could be washed.

It isn't standard but does it matter? Not hugely, unless never washed.

spuddy4 · 06/10/2024 16:55

Depends. I've seen a few cover less duvets so if it's one of those then it's supposed to be like that.

whatsinanameeh · 06/10/2024 16:56

The material on a duvet normally
Isn't very comfy unless you buy a nice cotton one

However, my son has cover list. Davies one is a PlayStation one and one is a Minecraft one, but I've seen other ones too. They just got in and out a wash no problem as they are sort of "stitched like quilted

Littletreefrog · 06/10/2024 16:56

Just got DS a coverless duvet and the whole thing goes in the wash. So if the duvet would fit in your washing machine and you can dry it easily I dont see the difference really.

gamerchick · 06/10/2024 16:57

Be a pain to ruddy wash every week like, but you can do what you want really.

Cover less duvets, sorry

CatherinedeBourgh · 06/10/2024 16:58

I do this. I use a sheet underneath it.

I hate duvet covers.

PayYourselfFirst · 06/10/2024 17:00

I don't really understand coverless duvets
Why would you want to wash the whole thing every week?
It must take ages to dry.
Duvet cover is thin and dries much quicker

MayaPinion · 06/10/2024 17:01

Is it a coverless one? There are some excellent ones that can be thrown in the washing machine and dried easily like these (I covet one)

If so, carry on. If it's a regular duvet they're not designed to be washed and dried easily and would likely get fairly gross fairly quickly. Read the laundry instructions carefully.

Is it because you don’t like the faff on putting the cover back on?

A coverless duvet is made differently to a normal duvet. Our coverless duvets dry more quickly than our duvet covers.

TeamPlaying · 06/10/2024 17:04

If it’s not made to be a coverless duvet, it’s weird.

PayYourselfFirst · 06/10/2024 17:12

Oh god that one is polyester and nicro fibre!
No thanks I will stick to my linen bedlinen @TeamPlaying

AvoidingStalkers · 06/10/2024 17:13

If its just a normal duvet that is meant to have a cover on then yes it's weird, it depends though if you are doing it because you can't be arsed putting the cover on or if you are on the bones of your arse skint and its the only way your child will have a cover. Context is everything really.

Pieceofpurplesky · 06/10/2024 17:20

I have a coverless duvet and love it. It dries in a couple of hours.

SummerFeverVenice · 06/10/2024 17:21

Isn’t that just a quilt?

Skippydoodle · 06/10/2024 17:23

I have a thin 4 tog white duvet. I get very hot at night, so if I then put a cover on it, it’s way too much for me. I just bung it on a hot wash once a week, it dries really fast on the line or in the dryer. Personally I don’t see the problem?

PayYourselfFirst · 06/10/2024 17:27

I get too hot which is why I prefer natural fibres.
I cant bear polyester for that reason, its not breathable.

Imbusytodaysorry · 06/10/2024 17:30

Also the bed is warmer with a cover as it’s extra layers.
I like nice bedding not stuff that makes you un uncomfortable .

Oliack1417 · 06/10/2024 17:31

We have cover less duvets on the children's beds. They're great, wash easily in the machine and dry super quick. They're a lovely blue colour and look great on their beds.

Isobel201 · 06/10/2024 17:36

I have a coverless duvet but I don't wash it every week because it doesn't fit in my washing machine. I pop it in my mum's machine as its a 10kg one.
