A duvet that never has a cover on

Is this weird?

Buying a duvet from Primark etc and not buying a duvet cover, just using this duvet as it is?

Anyone do this?

Unless it’s a coverless duvet or a quilt then YANBU.

Duvet covers are so much easier to wash, dry and store so I don’t know why anyone would not put one on.

Microfiber duvet covers are really light and quick drying.
And my amazon one has a zip.

Shadyshady · 06/10/2024 18:00

Ok...just me then. My duvet is so lovely and soft and I prefer it touching my skin than a cotton cover. Feels all soft and sinks into me. A cover just skims over me and is very un-snuggly!!

Puddlewoman · 06/10/2024 18:02

Would you consider a sheet between you and the duvet for easy washing? A bit like the sheets and blanket system of old I remember sleeping over at my grandads he never had duvets

DadJoke · 06/10/2024 18:03

There isn’t anything unhygienic about it if you have sheet underneath, but it’s a bit strange. We use douvet covers even though I’d rather unclog the shower drain than put one on.

Ohjustbuggeroff · 06/10/2024 18:05

What do people mean by using a sheet underneath? A sheet on the bed?

Nope it goes person, sheet, duvet. That's how my DM has always done it. Although the duvet does have a cover as well.

Cyclistmumgrandma · 06/10/2024 18:08

A flat top sheet then the duvet on top like a blanket

You have a bottom sheet on the mattress which you lie on and then between you and the actual duvet you put another sheet.
It saves washing duvet covers and a sheet is less faff to replace than a duvet cover.

TakeMe2Insanity · 06/10/2024 18:09

No thats gross. I see influencers in the US do this. I’ve come to the conclusion there are no duvet covers in the US.

Choochoo21 · 06/10/2024 18:12

Why do you ask OP?

I have a coverless duvet and love it. It dries in a couple of hours.

Same here.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 06/10/2024 18:25

use a flat sheet (between you and the duvet, as described by PP). You should wash that weekly / fortnightly / whatever your regular bedding wash schedule is. The bare duvet will still need washing, especially if pets are on the bed, but it'll need less regular washing (maybe every 2nd/3rd wash) than it would coming into direct contact with your sleeping body for hours at a time every night.

I have a duvet cover on my duvet and that also dries in a couple of hours.

soupfiend · 06/10/2024 18:30

I wouldnt have polyester and the storage issue would bother me, I have about 7 or 8 sets of bed linen because I like to ring the changes, I dont have the space to store 7 duvets! I would have to stick to one design then.

They tend to do that in hotels and I hate it, I get tangled up in the sheet. Ive noticed some airbnb hosts do it now as well, horrible

Also when people say their coverless duvets dry in a few hours, in what way, hanging inside with no drying help, hanging inside with drying help like a dehumidifier, hanging outside in a breeze, tumble dried?

LIZS · 06/10/2024 18:33

Think they mean a top sheet so you sleep between the fitted sheet on the mattress and top sheet with duvet above.

user2848502016 · 06/10/2024 18:36

You would have to wash the whole thing though? Seems much easier to just wash a duvet cover

user2848502016 · 06/10/2024 18:39

When I first met DH he was a skint postgraduate student, for some reason he had a duvet and a duvet cover but no sheets?! He used the duvet cover as a sheet and then had just the duvet with no cover on top 🤢 (he didn't see the problem)

Piffle11 · 06/10/2024 18:39

My DS has this. He has autism and has a real problem with textures. He loves his duvet without a cover. I wash it weekly.

PonyPatter44 · 06/10/2024 18:40

Just sleeping under a normal duvet with no cover is quite manky, TBH. Why wouldn't you just put a duvet cover on it, that can be washed regularly?

Doggymummar · 06/10/2024 18:40

We have them, from Amazon. Bung in the machine dry in about an hour. Fab

halava · 06/10/2024 18:42

I'm going to try an idea I have in my head.

Measure duvet. Cut two top sheets down to that size, hem them or use the iron on tape for lazy gits like me.

Attach sized sheets with fasteners to the duvet on both sides.

Remove them top and bottom for washing. Re attach when dry. No wrestling with a duvet cover and duvet. Make more if it works. No more duvet covers but body side and top side are covered.

Isn't that a great idea or stop you mad thing and just put a duvet cover on

Ihaveaquestionn · 06/10/2024 18:45

Everyone with coverless duvets - how do you find pillowcases to match or are they sold together?
