A duvet that never has a cover on

Is this weird?

Buying a duvet from Primark etc and not buying a duvet cover, just using this duvet as it is?

Anyone do this?

I'm going to try an idea I have in my head.

Measure duvet. Cut two top sheets down to that size, hem them or use the iron on tape for lazy gits like me.

Attach sized sheets with fasteners to the duvet on both sides.

Remove them top and bottom for washing. Re attach when dry. No wrestling with a duvet cover and duvet. Make more if it works. No more duvet covers but body side and top side are covered.

Isn't that a great idea or stop you mad thing and just put a duvet cover on

Just buy a duvet cover and unstitch one side and then you have 2 open sizes, use whatever fastners you like on the newly opened side

A lot of mine have zips

Everyone with coverless duvets - how do you find pillowcases to match or are they sold together?

Ours came with pillowcases.

Excellent suggestion! I'll try that when I get my lazy ass in gear some day! Thank you.

I love my cover less duvets, light green winter one and then a thinner summer one in white. It's easier to bung them in the washing machine and drier than wash and change duvet covers.

jackstini · 06/10/2024 19:00

If you are washing the duvet every couple of weeks then ok

But it would be easier to wash a top sheet or a duvet cover!

By the way, you know the easiest way to put the duvet cover on, cover inside out, put your arms in like you're pretending to be a ghost, grab the top corners of the duvet, shake it shake it shake it like a Polaroid picture, and you're virtually there, a little bit of pulling down and its all done

I learnt this from Anthea Turner on Celebrity Big Brother when they had actual celebrities in it.

Chowtime · 06/10/2024 19:01

I do this. I Just wash the duvet weekly like i was the othe bedding.

the fuck am I grappling with duvet covers 😀

wwjalme · 06/10/2024 19:06

It's really weird. Why on earth would you want to do that?
Just buy a duvet cover to go with it.

Phase2 · 06/10/2024 19:24

I bought a cover less double duvet for ds and it won't go in the bloody washing machine. Launderette has written off any saving of time

Ohjustbuggeroff · 06/10/2024 19:27

It isn’t washed, just replaced fairly regularly with a new one

Great idea, I'll try that, since I end up like an octopus with a bad temper and a red face doing it the "normal" way"

Can you tell I live on my own, am a golden oldie and my ticker doesn't like it when my face gets red with exertion lol.

I have a King Size bed all to myself, and there's no way a coverless duvet would work (if KS available) and my washing machine would keel over too.

I might also try a light throw or quilt on top of a "naked" duvet, as I always use a top sheet anyway.

Lesson learnt I did the same.

Then I always made sure subsequent washing machines could take an 11 kg load which is enough for a king sized duvet.

How often are you replacing it?

that seems incredibly wasteful

How regularly? I mean most people wash their duvet cover every week or every other week (according to the last thread about this). Wouldn't the duvet start to smell after a couple of weeks?

Blessedbethefruitz · 06/10/2024 19:38

Coverless duvets for the win. Especially with small pukey, leaky kids and a 5 foot 1 mum with severe allergies ;) They dry so fast. I wash them all weekly. Yes it's a full load each, but it's time saving and cleaner.

Not sure a normal duvet would dry as fast?

ttcat37 · 06/10/2024 19:41

Why don’t you want to use a duvet cover?
I think that beds that aren’t made to basic standards- sheet on the mattress, duvet cover, pillowcase- tend to give off a bit of a crack den vibe

The OP is short. I'm short. That means we have shorter arms than average people. It's incredibly difficult for us to do certain things other people take for granted, such as changing a duvet cover.

Replaced every week? 10 days? This is either a shameful waste or if not replaced so often, then it's disgusting

CharlotteFlax · 06/10/2024 19:47

Have I missed a post explaining why you don't just have duvet covers for it?

Why would you simply replace it regularly rather than just do the normal thing of having duvet covers and washing them?

Do you think hotels and Air bnb replace their duvets every month or so? I doubt it. Most people use duvet covers and just use the duvet itself for as long as they want.

PonyPatter44 · 06/10/2024 19:53

I'm 5ft. I can change a king size duvet because I'm not a wet wipe or a tyrannosaur. Being short doesn't mean you can't do perfectly normal jobs.

Throwing out a perfectly good duvet instead of just buying a £5 cover for it is astonishingly wasteful.
