An excoriating letter from Rosie Duffield who resigned today..

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/rosie-duffield-resignation-letter-starmer-labour-b2620603.html#comments-area

Been bad enough for her to resign, I wonder what will happen next. Does she know something we don’t?

Rosie Duffield’s resignation letter in full

Rosie Duffield has quit as a Labour MP, attacking Sir Keir Starmer’s “cruel and unnecessary policies” and the freebie row engulfing the party.

‘Although many "last straws" have led to my decision, my reason for leaving now is the programme of policies you seem determined to stick to, however unpopular they are with the electorate and your own MPs.

You repeat often that you will make the "tough decisions" and that the country is "all in this together". But those decisions do not directly affect any one of us in Parliament. They are cruel and unnecessary, and affect hundreds of thousands of our poorest, most vulnerable constituents.’

I am not sure he is incompetent, but I am genuinely surprised at the freebies scandal as it rather brings into question his constant drum banging about integrity. I expected a lot more.

She's right. He's gone after the pensioners, the disabled, hasn't lifted the two child cap, is snooping into people's bank accounts and filled his boots with freebies in his first few months. He's a traitor but many of us already knew that.

Yes.

From a political blog online..

’I cannot be alone in thinking that Starmer has now succeeded in presenting himself as without a moral compass or any political sense, let alone an understanding of what his Party is supposed to stand for months after an election in which, almost by chance and certainly only because of the absurdity of our electoral system, he won a big majority.

Being prime minister exposed Boris Johnson as the wholly inadequate man he was. It feels very much like it is doing the same thing for Starmer. Except for Starmer, this might actually be worse. Johnson's stupidity might have been an act, but it was well known in advance. Starmer played a safe, sober and sensible card. It's now apparent that he is none of those things but is possessed of poor judgement, vanity and imprudence. The revelation is sudden, shocking, and likely to be deeply damaging.

Starmer has exposed to the electorate just who he is. I get the impression they don't like what they see’ .

I did too.

He surely is incompetent. A competent politician wouldn’t have made the mistakes he’s making in such a short period of time. He may or may not have been a good legal professional, he is certainly not an effective politician.

It's not shocking for those who saw him from the beginning. He's purged Labour of any opposition to him and made it impossible to speak out. He tried to get rid off Abbott because she's old school left. He withdraws the whip if anyone opposes him and shows no loyalty.

He lied about his intentions when he was standing for Labour leader and has become a turncoat. I didn't expect the mask to slip so quickly.

I’m genuinely shocked how stupid they’ve been
they've Gone and done exactly the same as they’ve spent the last 12 years been outraged and bitching about

Transam · 28/09/2024 19:13

I think the freebies issue is just the start of it. At least one reporter today seemed to allude to something which could have far more damaging and far reaching implications.

When principled women are resigning from your party, you have the rat's anus on your helmet.

I agree that he is incompetent.

Keir Starmer is a soulless civil servant interested in power for its own sake, who only got that power because the opposition was so grim much of its own base couldn't bear to vote for them. Tony Blair was awful in many ways, but at least he had a vision and stood for something. 'Sir' Keir is an empty shell of a man.

Newterm · 28/09/2024 19:15

Nothing will happen. He won’t admit anything he’s done is wrong and the media in the UK will drop it after a day. He’s like Biden in the USA, the media let him off with so much

Yes. The hypocrisy, incompetence, acceptance of gifts, lack of care for the vulnerable, and the RD resignation - all somewhat send a sense of impending political doom.

On the plus side for some, the VAT on school fees probably won’t happen. Although that’s already fcked up some vulnerable kids who’ve had to move schools already. Despicable.

As a lone mother on UC who works 40 hours a week and still has little left at the end of the month, I really believed that I'd start feeling hopeful under labour. I was wrong and I feel just as hopeless as ever.

CremeEggThief · 28/09/2024 19:17

It certainly isn't a good start for him or the party!😬

I prefer Johnson - he didn’t ever hide who he was.

I think he kind of did. Behind the buffoonish exterior lay a cold sociopath.

I’m sorry to hear it. Is there anyway you can get a job in the civil service (there are jobs with local councils etc), flexi time, wfh, pension etc; and join a union?

@TealTraybake what do you do for a job?

anythinginapinch · 28/09/2024 19:22

He and his party remain a better choice than the other lot

ThatAgileGoldMoose · 28/09/2024 19:22

I'm really disappointed with him. I voted for Labour because I couldn't vote Tory, and while I always knew he was ToryLiteTM he seems to be worse than I imagined.

And if any Tory voters want to gloat, save it. I'm still happy with my own MP, and would abstain rather than vote Tory. I just wish we had a more left wing party to vote for than Starmer's Labour.

EasternStandard · 28/09/2024 19:23
