An excoriating letter from Rosie Duffield who resigned today..

Been bad enough for her to resign, I wonder what will happen next. Does she know something we don’t?

Rosie Duffield’s resignation letter in full

Rosie Duffield has quit as a Labour MP, attacking Sir Keir Starmer’s “cruel and unnecessary policies” and the freebie row engulfing the party.

I’m not suprised. I always had a bad feeling about him and knew him becoming PM wouldn’t end well. We needed a change from the Tories, definitely, but honestly, Starmer was never going to be a good choice.

Staunchlystarling · 28/09/2024 19:23

This government is one of the most incompetent I’ve seen for a long time, long long time. When will Labour ever learn. And this isn’t just the old Labour of old horror of tax and spend and do what the unions say. This lot are that and on the take.

it’s the definition of incompetence.

Staunchlystarling · 28/09/2024 19:24

Messen · 28/09/2024 19:21

@TealTraybake what do you do for a job?

Why is that relevant?

BrainLife · 28/09/2024 19:24

TealTraybake · 28/09/2024 19:21

I’m sorry to hear it. Is there anyway you can get a job in the civil service (there are jobs with local councils etc), flexi time, wfh, pension etc; and join a union?

Edited

I work in the charity sector and love my job, I'm trying to work my way up but until that job comes up I don't have much left. I am I a union and my pension is actually not too bad. None helpful when you need help now though.

MyCatHatesSandals · 28/09/2024 19:24

Not only is he disingenuous. He is weak. That is the worst kind of person to be in charge.

5byfive · 28/09/2024 19:25

I don’t see how he can give out eu young person’s visas without binning universal credit for the same age group so I think that’s next unpopular policy.

Moonlaserbearwolf · 28/09/2024 19:25

He is such a disappointment

chisanunian · 28/09/2024 19:25

Look at it this way:

At least he's not a Tory.

Well, at least not officially.

He basically is.

He’s also a liar. He’s lied about the flat. The gcse dates don’t tie up. He did video calls from it himself. He misdeclared his own free clothes and his wife’s, and it was forced to be corrected.

it’s just so self serving. The man just wanted to be prime minister for the power and what he could get.

Damning him with very faint praise.

Yeah that’s not going to fly. He’s Labour. Own it.

I prefer Johnson - he didn’t ever hide who he was.

He did. He's a Europhile who's read A La Recherche Du Temps Perdu in the original French so his buffoonish, Eurosceptic bullshit is worse.

He basically is.

Yup.

He's one of those politicians who could have ended up in either party. It's circumstance, not conviction, that led him to join Labour.

Hatfullofwillow · 28/09/2024 19:29

He's not incompetent, he's doing his job, which is to make sure there is no party left with a chance of challenging neoliberal orthodoxy and upsetting the establishment.

There really is no other logical explanation for the path his career has taken.

Yes exactly. I'm no fan of Starmer but to think Boris is better is nuts!

That's kindof what I'm saying. There's not much difference. It doesn't feel like it anyway.

Lacking charisma is one thing, but he is just plain unpleasant. Sneery, bad-tempered, and patronising. He's damm lucky he was up against the weakest Tory party in decades.

Figleafpants · 28/09/2024 19:30

But he overplayed the whole normal toolmaker bollocks while taking handouts from multi millionaires. A typical union sympathising nose in the trough

Perfectly said. I feel exactly the same way.

That’s great that you love your job. Good people get promoted - you will. But yes, Labour Party aren’t helping many atm.

Oh that bit, the tax and spend on the unions, hasn’t even started yet.

Give them some time.

Tbf he had a huge amount of help from strategists, media and civil servants

It wasn’t his own flair
