An excoriating letter from Rosie Duffield who resigned today..

Been bad enough for her to resign, I wonder what will happen next. Does she know something we don’t?

Rosie Duffield’s resignation letter in full

Rosie Duffield has quit as a Labour MP, attacking Sir Keir Starmer’s “cruel and unnecessary policies” and the freebie row engulfing the party.

He also repeatedly tried to mislead parliament too. First he didn't declare his wife's £5k clothing then he deliberately gave an unrealistically low amount for the penthouse he borrowed and now we find it was not £16k clothes but £32k and the other £16 he put as something else nondescript. What a sleazeball he is. No wonder his own back benchers are furious with him.

Regarding, 'My dad was a hoary handed toolmaker.'

Yes, that's true but he owned the factory.

BIossomtoes · 28/09/2024 19:43

How do you know? What’s changed in your life in the last 11 weeks?

Nothing. That's the problem.

Ladybowes · 28/09/2024 19:44

Not everyone tells who they voted for or is truthful about it when they do - making comments like that by the poster ridiculous tbf

Not really, there are loads of Labour voters, take a look at the long running threads that are up to about 40 something

It’s pretty much all Labour

Loss of winter fuel allowance for a start.

You haven’t lost it yet. I seem to remember it arrived in November last year.

There is no optimism. It wasn't an optimistic campaign. Whoever won, cuts were coming. If all goes well (which it wont) it'll take the best part of a decade to get the country back on track and will take a lot of wise investment for the future.

I think people don't realize how precarious a position the country is in - and while that isn't entirely the Tories ' fault, Brexit is a big part of it.

But I do expect Labour to be voted out in 5 years when it turns out that Starmer can't wave a magic wand and fix everything.

I think it is far too early to judge. I'm prepared to give him time.

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/09/2024 19:27

He did. He's a Europhile who's read A La Recherche Du Temps Perdu in the original French so his buffoonish, Eurosceptic bullshit is worse.

Boris grew up in Belgium so he is as comfortable speaking French as he is English.

harrumphh · 28/09/2024 19:50

With that big of a majority you're going to get resignations, it doesn't mean anything except that you're not going to please that many people. Same happened with Tories.

Ladybowes · 28/09/2024 19:41

😂😂😂Because you know how people on MN voted, right....😂😂😂

I'm a labour voter. I'm not ashamed to have voted Labour. I can confidently say, though, that unless things change significantly I don't think I'll be able to vote for anyone at the next election.

twistyizzy · 28/09/2024 19:50

Where are all the "grown ups are back in charge" posse who called me a Tory twat for daring to criticise 1 of Labour's policies

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 28/09/2024 19:51

For the last few years I've been increasingly dismayed by Labour's stance on women's rights, but I still would have voted for them if they'd given me any reason to believe they had a credible plan to clean up the mess left behind by the Tories and improve the situation for people living in the UK. They didn't give me a single reason to vote for them. They had absolutely nothing going for them other than "not the Tories", which I didn't think was worth overlooking the women's rights issue for. Every time there were threads on here about the subject people would say, "I care about women's rights but the country is broken, we need investment in the NHS, education, we need a strong economy etc etc" and I just couldn't see how Labour was going to do any of those things. It seemed like wishful thinking to me. I'm still hoping they'll prove me wrong but the early signs aren't encouraging.

Seriously how do you know they're not lying or bots or the same person who name changes... you really have no idea who someone is on forums like this, no matter how MN tries to stop this kind of thing.

Would the Tories have acquiesced to the unions quite so fast?

Seriously I’ve been here for ages people are not shy about voting Labour

There may be a couple of SM pushers but your posts are too far off the reality on who is vocal about how they vote

Have you read the threads I mentioned, they’ve been going for years

Meadowfinch · 28/09/2024 19:55

Well done, Ms Duffield.

She has more ethics, better values and more back bone than Starmer, and she'd get my vote any day.

The stench from no.s 10 & 11 Downing Street is impossible to ignore.

Most pensioners will still get winter fuel payments- that’s why pension credit claims have increased.
He’s clearing up the problems made by Bozo.

I don’t care about his freebies, as long I don’t have to pay for them. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oh so it will be arriving this year? That’s good to know. You obviously know something I dont.

DarkDarkNight · 28/09/2024 19:57

As a Labour voter I’m pretty pissed off with it all. The problem is the mainstream media (The Mail and Telegraph in particular) were just waiting for something to get them with. The freebies and ‘scandal’ absolutely fade into insignificance when you compare them to the COVID contracts or anything Boris Johnson has done but that’s beside the point.

They had to be better, they’re held to a different standard by the right-wing media yes, but also because you can’t bang on and on about Tory sleaze then pull a chair up at the table and join in.

Ladybowes · 28/09/2024 19:57

I'm not doubting that some people are Labour voters or that they wouldn't admit it on here. Also some people don't tell the truth for various reasons (not saying that's you by the way!) or don't want to say which is there right. I was just pointing the assumption that someone knows how people have voted on here is ridiculous.

BIossomtoes · 28/09/2024 19:58

Nanny0gg · 28/09/2024 19:53

It wasn’t fast. The junior doctors had been striking since March last year, how long did you want them to go on?
