To think that 5 children growing up motherless because their Mum wanted cosmetic surgery is absolutely tragic *edited by MNHQ

And actually a damning indictment of the state our society and the pressure placed on women to conform to increasingly ridiculous and unattainable standards of “beauty”??

A woman in her early-30’s has just died after having a Brazilian butt lift procedure in Gloucestershire, leaving 5 children who will now grow up without their mother. She’s not even the first woman to die after this procedure, which is known to be the most dangerous cosmetic surgery procedure commonly available- just the first to die after having it done in the UK.

What the fuck is going on?? Why are women literally putting their lives on the line trying to mimic some cartoonish Kardashian aesthetic? Is it that we place so little value on our own lives or so much value on appearance? Is it that these surgeries and treatments which were once the preserve of the rich and famous, are now available to pretty much anybody and can be performed by people with next to no qualifications?

I feel so angry for that woman, and desperately sad for her children.

Because you were brought up in a society where shaving is a social norm. That's social pressure to look a certain way. You're denying the concept of social pressure while conforming to it. And don't make up excuses about how it was a personal choice you just happened to discover one day; it's expected that you'll shave and you capitulated.

No, sorry. None of the women in my family shave… I was brought up seeing body hair as normal and shaving/hair removal certainly was not expected.

The only thing I remove is my armpit hair because I prefer how deodorant applies and I feel like I get less sweaty (though I often don’t shave for a few weeks at a time)… But that’s for me and my comfort. Fuck all to do with capitulating to social pressure

@Allfur personally I find that shaving exfoliates me in a way that scrubs just can't (because it does get dead skin cells as well) and it means my legs feel more moisturised - I'm certainly not doing it to look good as my legs are never on display!

But you can exfoliate with hair on them

People who have mentioned men on here, I've never heard any man ever suggest a woman needs overly plumped lips, or a gravity defying arse.
This is all down to the aesthetics industry, mainly run by women, and what they promote on social media.

//

Don't have any stats but I'm willing to bet the easy availability of porn promoting this aesthetic is a massive driver and of course the biggest consumers of such porn is likely to be men. So indirectly I think they are absolutely a factor

So you know your wants but this woman didn’t?

It's not even remotely comparable.

itwasnevermine · 26/09/2024 15:28

@Allfur but as I said, personally, I find it feels better when I shave. I don’t know why, I just do - I've gone months without shaving and just find that personally I prefer how my legs feel when I have shaved.

Think plastic surgery and Botox etc all just needs to be banned unless it medically necessary such as a fire victim etc.
It all looks very OTT and ridiculous, and the government clearly can't stop the back street butchers from killing.

Agreed. Fillers, botox, bbls, nose jobs, etc they're all the same concept - trying to inflate or 'fix' what you don't have naturally for cosmetic purposes. Unnecessary and dangerous.

I do believe there is a belief that it is best to be slimmer, that is not a new pressure to anyone in society.

There is however no pressure on anyone to have a super Kardashian style bottom, that is just pure vanity. The aesthetics industry, which this poor woman actually worked in is responsible for promoting this culture of it being completely normal to inject parts of your body with these substances. It's unregulated, its not a medical environment, it beggars belief how anyone could think injecting any part of your body with anything it doesn't actually need is necessary.
The 'clinic' she went to was in a house and had a entrance that looked like a shed. The people that own the business had lips overly full of filler themselves and clearly a skewed view of how the human body should appear.

People who have mentioned men on here, I've never heard any man ever suggest a woman needs overly plumped lips, or a gravity defying arse.

Instead of blaming the victim, I prefer to fight to dismantle the deeply entrenched systems of misogyny and ageism that have for years told women that they are worthless unless they are young, buxom and 'fertile looking'.

Hear hear

poppyzbrite4 · 26/09/2024 15:29

Runnerinthenight · 26/09/2024 15:25

That's utter tripe.

Even if it wasn't - what of it? Nobody ever died at the hands of Mr Bic or Miss Immac!!!

The fact you've been confirming to social pressure to look a certain way but been unaware of it, doesn't make it 'tripe'.

It helps to read what someone is responding to before commenting. I didn't say that you could die from shaving, I was making a point about capitulating to social pressure.

Lafondah · 26/09/2024 15:30

Can people talking about shaving please fk off. Its irrelevant to pumping your body full of fillers.

tryingagaintoday · 26/09/2024 15:01

If all those posters performatively weeping their crocodile tears for those children actually gave one shit about them they would not be slagging off their mother on a public site.

Shame on all of you who have done this.

It's a subject that needs to be discussed. Her husband should have maybe talked her out of it? or tried?

Nobody's "slagging her off" either.

Besides which, both men and women shave so it's a really stupid analogy.

Why are you angry for her? She chose to put herself, and the stability of her kids, at risk. No one forced her to do this.

I agree. I’m angry for her children, who had a right to be raised by their mother, who are now down to one parent, because their mother just had to have a cosmetic procedure done to inflate the size of her behind. It’s a tragedy for the poor little ones who will one day realise their mother wasn’t killed in an accident or by sudden illness, but by vanity.

I didn't say that using deodorant was capitulating to social pressure, I said that shaving was. I was making a point about how women are pressured to look a certain way.

You not shaving doesn't mean that other women don't or that you don't do other things in order to conform to social norms.

midgetastic · 26/09/2024 15:32

I think calling someone stupid would class as slagging off to me

They werent married. And although he looks like a traveller isnt it bad for men to tell women what to do/ not to do?

We're talking about looks, things people do to look a certain way. Try to keep up.

Try not to be so rude. You're not in charge of the conversation, you know!

How does BBL improve a persons life?
What are the benefits of BBL?

Can someone make a list?

If it’s to attract male partners … I’m not sure how many more you can get if the options are:

  1. free sex
  2. free sex with a BBL

do male partners care? Would reject free sex if no big bum? Or given choice of free sex with 2 similar except for bum, they choose the bum? And you want to be the one chosen?

Or educate me, why why why?

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 26/09/2024 15:35

@Allfur @poppyzbrite4

I shave my legs,pp, because otherwise the hairs catch in my socks and annoy me. I shave my armpits because the deodorant can get clumpy In The hairs ( yes, I am quite hairy 🙄 🦧

Completely comfort driven, nothing to do with the ‘male gaze’ or ‘societal pressure’ because I am much too old for society , and men, to gaze at me with other tthan horror and despair (possibly compassion if you are very nice).

It’s a completely false analogy, clutching at straws for an excuse for profoundly disturbed behaviour.

And neither are you, however adding to the discussion is better than policing it.
