I'm not a pet owner, although have had pets in my childhood.

Many of my friends and family members have dogs... And I'm just always so surprised to see how their hygiene standards change when they get a pet....
No dogs on the sofa/bed... But how is it suddenly acceptable?
Dogs around the table and sniffing around food that's low eg coffee table.
And then the owners stroking the pets and letting it sniff/lick hands and then eating without washing first??
My sister in law is awful for it... Her and her children are all petting the dog while eating and then taking more food from the plates which are for everyone. In-between this, the dogs led licking it's nethers before coming back for another sniff around the food 🤢
I can't be the only person to think this is disgusting? 😂🤦🏾‍♀️

I think it is disgusting too.

Cafes, pubs, shops. Everywhere is crawling with them now.

But in a minute all the dog worshippers will come along to tell them we are unreasonable and that their Fido is not in the least bit grim 🤣

I don't mind them generally... And I can cope in pubs etc as long as the dogs are kept on the floor... And waiting on staff aren't stroking the dogs....

A pub local to me posted a "pooch of the wk" on Facebook... With the dogs sat at the table 🤢
I haven't been there since.

😂😂😂 I’ve dogs but can’t actually argue with this 😂😂

Ablondiebutagoody · 19/09/2024 20:59

An ex of mine had dogs. I would just want a chilled night, cook together, some chicken maybe some sex.......you know, see what happens. But there's dogs crashing around and hair and slobber and he's touching them. Revolting.

It has to have been at least 24 hours since the last dog-bashing thread.

honeyytoast · 19/09/2024 21:00

I agree tbh… I love animals - horses, dogs, cats etc etc but couldn’t really relax inside my home after interacting with one without washing my hands and changing clothes first

Jc2001 · 19/09/2024 21:00

Your sister and her family do sound rather revolting.

The whole world is suddenly full of badly behaved dogs. The beach especially. And what they leave behind. 😫

Greyyyybeornot · 19/09/2024 21:01

I hear you, but there’s evidence that children who grow up with dogs have a stronger and healthier gut microbiome and better immune systems etc so maybe it’s good to be slightly dirty?!

Melodysmum12 · 19/09/2024 21:03

I agree but I have a dog and I don’t care! I think some germs are good for you! I don’t let my dog lick my face/son’s face. We wash hands before eating. I think the rest can’t be avoided… she sleeps on my head, she walks in the garden and then in the house and we don’t wash her paws! She brings so much joy that it doesn’t bother me!

I'm not bashing dogs... They're little cuties. It's the owners I have issues with 😂
Disclaimer... As someone kindly pointed out, obviously not all dog owners...

It's so goady to generalise all dog owners 🙄

Doingtheboxerbeat · 19/09/2024 21:04

I adore animals but I hate smells, hairs and messages that are not my own. Weirdly enough I don't care about animals in shops, pubs, cafes or other peoples houses, just not in my own home.

Moltenpink · 19/09/2024 21:04

What harm did any of that do. Were you sick? Agree with the PP above, it’s good to be a bit dirty Grin

Chocolatecookiesandtea · 19/09/2024 21:04

On one thread I read how there are apparently sometimes dirtier people in cafes than dogs but then I feel like it’s unlikely smelly old Joe or whoever has been rolling in fox poo recently and even less likely he will be sitting with no pants on in the cafe and sniffing and licking food !

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 19/09/2024 21:04

Sorry, OP, but we 'unhygienic' dog owners are actually healthier than all you germophobes and squeaky clean showhome owners Grin. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/06/well/family/are-pets-the-new-probiotic.html Pet germs amd dirt are good for you!

Doingtheboxerbeat · 19/09/2024 21:05

Messes obviously 🙄

Frowningprovidence · 19/09/2024 21:05

Yes, my dog is grubby and I stroke him, forget to wash my hands, and let him on the sofa.

I think there is some research that says dog owners are healthier. Lots of germs to boost the immune system. Walks for heart health and relaxing cuddles.

Icanttakethisanymore · 19/09/2024 21:05

I don’t have pets but being too clean isn’t good for you. Pets are good for preventing allergies ok believe.
