I'm not a pet owner, although have had pets in my childhood.

Many of my friends and family members have dogs... And I'm just always so surprised to see how their hygiene standards change when they get a pet....
No dogs on the sofa/bed... But how is it suddenly acceptable?
Dogs around the table and sniffing around food that's low eg coffee table.
And then the owners stroking the pets and letting it sniff/lick hands and then eating without washing first??
My sister in law is awful for it... Her and her children are all petting the dog while eating and then taking more food from the plates which are for everyone. In-between this, the dogs led licking it's nethers before coming back for another sniff around the food 🤢
I can't be the only person to think this is disgusting? 😂🤦🏾‍♀️

Bet my pup has cleaner bollocks than some of your husbands. 😉

😂😂😂😂😂(God, that made me howl with laughter!)

I find people who are not keen on dogs or treat them as if they’re way below them…pretty suspect

Dogs are amazing.

I agree. People being afraid of dogs I completely understand - that could be due to a phobia or a bad experience, but I am deeply suspicious of people who say they don't like dogs. And the funny thing is, the very few people I've met who've said that have all been cold fish - not an ounce of warmth amongst them. 🤔

@Chocolatecookiesandtea

Maybe I just have PTSD from the very lovely but very disgusting dog we had when i was a child!! He was adorable but he was the naughtiest dirtiest dog ever

PTSD isn't a substitute for 'memories'

You have memories of your dog, not trauma.

It was a joke (and I am actually diagnosed with PTSD from something so I don’t feel it’s totally inappropriate for me to use the term within a joke too)

ChristmasFluff · 21/09/2024 07:55

I am a cat person, and whilst I don't like dogs, I don't actively dislike them. In fact, I love the 'idea' of a dog, and the individual dogs I meet (I grew up with dogs). It's just the reality of them.

I can't live with the pet hair and smell, and with certain dogs, you cannot stop the smell. Dog hair is also so much more difficult to vacuum up. The short time I cared for someone's dog, I was constantly vacuuming.

The rest of it, the 'germs' - not something I could get exercised about. It's not dogs who spread noro, covid, flu etc.

I don't know how we survived as kids. We all had mumps, measles, german measles, chicken pox, flu and dogs licking our faces.

Summatoruvva · 21/09/2024 08:01

But like people (and dare I say kids), some dogs are just shit. Law of averages state some people encounter only the crap ones and them being dog apathetic doesn’t make them a psycho.
In my life I only have memories of family/neighbour dogs barking, begging, slobbering, stinking, biting. I honestly can’t recall them ever being charming or interested in anything but getting a meal.
My sister in law is doolally about hers though and puts it on a par with her kids. That’s psychopathic imo.

It was a joke

Joke is something that makes people laugh. Using the term 'PTSD' instead of the word 'memories' isn't a joke in any way.

The way people flippantly use medical terms to describe normal experiences is really concerning. The fact that you have a PTSD diagnosis should make you more aware of how this belittles the real condition, not jump to defend your misuse of the term.

Well whatever , I did use it as part of a joke and that’s just something you’ll have to untrigger yourself over

You must have forgotten to post the other 'part' of that joke.

I'm not triggered by your use of PTSD incorrectly though, not sure why you think that? Merely pointing out that the thoughtless use of such language makes it harder for people, like yourself, with genuine diagnoses to be heard.

I would say the same for any incorrect use of terms. In fact I did unthread when another poster was calling people psychopaths, psychotic and maniacs. It's not acceptable.

I'm not too sure why you are hitting back rather than taking a minute to think about it; but it's absolutely your problem, not mine.

That’s fine you are entitled to your opinion. I’m entitled to use terms in whatever way I wish. We can just disagree on it 🤷‍♀️

It is possible to own a dog and be hygienic!
We are very clean 😇😂
What amazes me is seeing cats strolling or sitting on kitchen worktops 😮
And no animals upstairs/on beds please;
thank you
As for ‘swinging bags of dog poo’, at least it shows we pick up after our dogs
(Cats poo anywhere and don’t bury it - none of mine ever did)

Absolutely, at least you're taking it to a bin...
.. there's absolutely nothing worse than bagged poo that's just been thrown in a hedge on on the ground.... Why do people even bother bagging it up if they're going to whizz is anyway 😩

My elderly aunt lets her dog eat leftovers off her plates and bowls. She doesn't have a dishwasher either, so her crockery must be full of bacteria. What really turned my stomach, was when she once invited me for lunch, then let the dog eat the leftovers directly out of the slow cooker. 🤮

It has to have been at least 24 hours since the last dog-bashing thread.

Well maybe dog owners should do better?

Est1990 · 23/09/2024 21:21

I agree. Terrible to have fresh bedding and then the dog goes on top of it...dog hair everywhere.

Then it's the weekend and off i go to open the living room door so the dog can come up and chill with us while we having coffee and breakfast in bed. It's such a comfort and sweet feeling❤️
