Men with boats cheat

Boatsandcoats · 15/09/2024 21:54

The subject says it all!

I’ve long believed that men only buy boats to use them as floating love shacks. My friend thinks I’m being ridiculous and says boats are just a great lifestyle choice. Recently, she told me her husband is thinking of buying a boat, and I couldn’t help but give her that look! She insists he’d never cheat, but in my experience, every man I’ve known who had a boat wasn’t exactly faithful.

Honestly, if my husband bought one, I might even consider it grounds for divorce!

So, am I being unreasonable? Can men own boats without it leading to adultery, or am I totally right to be suspicious? Should men with boats just wear a t-shirt that says, "Don’t trust me?"

(For the record, this doesn’t apply to fishermen making a living or people who live on boats!)

My first husband cheated on me with some trollop woman who had a boat. Left me married her, and got himself a boat. Never trust a man OR a woman with a boat!!!
Happily married for 20 years to man who hates boats 😀

LoveLifeBeHappy · 18/09/2024 11:15

I'm glad to hear you're not dealing with any trauma or personal struggles.

That said, it makes me wonder why you're categorising certain men—like those who own boats or are pilots—as cheaters. Are you often judgemental or quick to criticise others simply for being different?

While your behaviour is your own, it seems like you might be seeking validation or acting out of fear. It would be interesting to understand where this behaviour stems from and why it’s challenging for you.

I remember now there was a woman in the marina living on her boat. She would proposition some men. Don't know how much action she got.

It’s pretty difficult to have a decent shag on a topper.

😂

Madrigal12 · 18/09/2024 12:55

And its so blatantly pervy when they advertise a 3 person canoe - filthy, depraved, morally corrupt paddlers !
My partner has a kayak and it only seats one so I know I can trust them not to pump anyone !

I think it depends on the type of boat.

My ex had a speed boat and he definitely couldn't be trusted.

True about the type of boat, it would need a good self-steering set up to be a floating love shack.

😂

And you would have to be very lithe, agile and optimistic in an Optimist!
This thread gives a whole new meaning to 'sheets'.

justasking111 · 18/09/2024 13:01

Wouldn't attempt it in a fireball 😁

All my friends have boats. They’re all swingers so I think you’re on to something. One couple has four boats, god knows what they get up to.

"god knows what they get up to" 😂

I know a man with a coracle. Good luck with that!

Wow, give me 5 minutes in your headspace 😂

Hereforaglance · 18/09/2024 20:38

Don't forget men who go to work or go to the gym they are definitely cheating especially if there is a secretary working in the office

Vergus · 18/09/2024 20:38

It depends what kind of boat, surely. A glam super yacht moored somewhere cool in the Med with a James Bond type vibe going on might fit the bill. A coracle such as the above off the Scottish coast - not so much. But who knows! The world is a crazy place!

What about men that leave the house to get petrol they are so shagging the person that serves them you have to accidentally look through their phone to find details

Yes. This. My ex Every time he left the house, petrol, MOT, shop, community council meeting, funeral..there was a shag in there somewhere. Didn’t have to check his phone though. Couldn’t even if I wanted to. I put a tracker in my car that he kept ‘borrowing’ even though I said No

I only know one man with a boat. He does not cheat but he does use it to go out alone without his wife. She does pottery while he's on his boat. She does not cheat either. They are both very happy with this arrangement.
I think perhaps it's more the type of men that you know than that all boat owners are love rats.

@HarrietSchulenberg

How can u be sure the wife isn't having an affair at the pottery class and acting out the scene from Ghost with a Patrick Swayze lookalike?

I had an interesting discussion with a friend recently about why some men with boats seem to cheat. We were just chatting, not really making serious judgments, but I happened to realize that, in my experience, the men I know who own boats have either cheated or ended up divorced after cheating. It was just an observation, no deep emotions or personal investment in it.

What surprised me is how strongly you reacted to what was meant as a lighthearted comment. Maybe it’s worth reflecting on why this generalization hit home for you.

In any case, I wish you well and hope you find what you're seeking in your own life. If something is missing, maybe talking to a therapist could help. Good luck!

I took the post you were replying to as being extraordinarily subtle satire.

I could be wrong.

Do little remote control ones count?
**
Little remote controlled men are the worst for this kind of thing.

Even if they wear sailing caps? No, sorry, can’t see it. I mean, just who on earth would? 😁

Sailorchick14 · 18/09/2024 23:12

I swore off dating sailors when I was younger as too many cheats but men from any background will cheat if they want to. Happily married for 15+ years to a sailor now so not all men with boats cheat.
Plus my dad and Fil owned boats and never cheated.
