Men with boats cheat

Boatsandcoats · 15/09/2024 21:54

The subject says it all!

I’ve long believed that men only buy boats to use them as floating love shacks. My friend thinks I’m being ridiculous and says boats are just a great lifestyle choice. Recently, she told me her husband is thinking of buying a boat, and I couldn’t help but give her that look! She insists he’d never cheat, but in my experience, every man I’ve known who had a boat wasn’t exactly faithful.

Honestly, if my husband bought one, I might even consider it grounds for divorce!

So, am I being unreasonable? Can men own boats without it leading to adultery, or am I totally right to be suspicious? Should men with boats just wear a t-shirt that says, "Don’t trust me?"

(For the record, this doesn’t apply to fishermen making a living or people who live on boats!)

@Boatsandcoats fab thread ! Very enjoyable and I think you are right.

StoneTheCrone · 17/09/2024 20:06

I think it depends on the type of boat.

My ex had a speed boat and he definitely couldn't be trusted.

That'd foil their attempts.Grin

Best quote ever 😂

VickyPollard25 · 17/09/2024 20:14

Every man I have ever known who has owned a boat has cheated.

My friend told me her ex husband (a prolific cheater) would get dressed for work and put his boat gear in boot, call in sick and meet whichever side piece he was shagging (usually another Mum at their children’s prep school) and spend the day shagging her on the boat.

A portfolio manager at work who was seriously into boats was shagging one of the marketing girls. Don’t know if he did it on the boat, but plenty of people talked about what happened in the office.

My school friend’s Dad who also a prolific cheater and her parents divorced after her Dad was caught shagging someone at the yacht club.

I had never thought about this until your post, OP. Interesting observation!

Who on earth is using an allotment for a love-shack?

Ha ha….have you never heard of “potting shed capers”…😉

Florin · 17/09/2024 20:29

Grown up in a sailing family, met my now husband also from a sailing family when we were 15 and 16. I Worked for a yacht charter company too at one point so heard a lot of stories . From the yacht club, yup lots of it as the quote goes “If the boat is rocking doing come knocking”
dh and I sail together so not worried about him but not going to lie we went round the boat show last weekend to look at a boat of our own and we chatted about all things about the boat but always commented on the main cabin and it’s potential as honestly the best fun we have had is always on a yacht it’s all about the bed height.

I want to take this moment to congratulate myself and my theory for not only making it into the daily email but also being the subject of it! I’m accepting this achievement with immense gratitude, and I want to thank everyone who helped me get here. Without your support, I wouldn’t have made it this far.
Together, we built something special, and it was the encouragement from my earliest supporters @DadJoke @Edingril and who could forget @knittingdad . Thank you to my mother and father, my husband who has no boat and the teachers who never thought to teach me grammar and spelling thank you all!

Hard to say really 😂

erasemybrain · 17/09/2024 21:53

My dad has a boat, trust me he spends all his time and money fixing the bloody thing. In fact he has 3 boats, no money and certainly no time for cheating! I know this because I end up helping and also spending money!

ColdWaterDipper · 17/09/2024 21:54

I live somewhere almost everyone has at least one boat! Unless we’re all living in unfaithful marriages I’d say you’re wrong. I would imagine most men (or women) who buy boats do so because they like sailing….or motor boating etc (but most people we know have small yachts).

ObieJoyful · 17/09/2024 22:03

It’s all true… and you can tell the size of a bloke’s willy by the size of his boat. The more super the yacht, the smaller the member.

It may be tricky in that kayak, but it’ll be worth it.

There's a legend (true) in a local sailing club that the Commodore was caught with his trousers round his ankles servicing another sailors wife over the snooker table.

On another occasion I found a sailors wife out cold under said table sans knickers having enjoyed relations with her friends husband then had fallen asleep.

On another occasion at a do someone went outside for a smoke in the car park, noticed a car rocking, went over to investigate and discovered two members having fun whilst their spouses were inside.

All this was a long time ago. Todays young members are quite puritan by comparison. They don't drink like the members back in the day did .

MaitreKarlsson · 17/09/2024 22:11

Surely it depends on the type of boat? 🙄

I mean, it's possible on most boats with a bit of imagination Wink but as a general rule the less appealing the boat is the more appealing the man has to be ....

Do vans also count in your weird world?

If they have a mattress in the back 🤣🤣

Pomollo · 18/09/2024 00:36

I used to live on a canal boat and the owner before me had a double life aboard the boat with his mistress so I’d say it’s red flag territory he apparently worked overseas a lot and then would come back a few days early to live aboard with her…

depends where they moor it I guess? If they live on a river and it’s at the bottom of the garden then the risk is much lower 😂

August1980 · 18/09/2024 05:50

Just ridiculous. we have a boat. Husband refers to it as money pit not love shack!

Incognito1975 · 18/09/2024 07:47

One of my best friends had a yacht for many years. I went sailing with him often. He was a perfect gentleman. Never swore, very polite, kind and gracious. In all the time I knew him he was the most faithful of partners/husband. He had a boat because he loved the sea and sailing.

I think cheaters are going to cheat and don't need to spend hundreds of thousands on a boat to do so.

I know a couple of boat owners and they don't strike me as the type, they go out and fish, dive and look at dolphins.

My husband has a kayak and if he managed to cheat in that I'd honestly be more impressed than angry.

I am howling at the last line 😂😂😂😂😂 🛶 🛶🛶🛶🛶

Santina · 18/09/2024 09:11

We have a boat and have lots of boating friends too. None of us are having affairs, I've never heard anything so ridiculous.

For sheer batshittery this is one of the best opening posts I've ever read on MN.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Have to agree with you on this, can’t see my DFiL having an affair in the boat they used to own 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

OP is clearly batshit crazy 🤪

I love the idea that you can know that for definite.
Given the percentage of people who cheat it's quite likely some of your many boating friends are cheating. Possibly not on the boat though.

Nextdoor55 · 18/09/2024 09:46

What all of them?!

I love the idea of “cheating on the boat”.

I’m sorry Sea Princess III, I’ve been going out on another boat. We met at the marina. I shouldn’t have done it. I’ve been a fool. But I was feeling low and she led me on with her polished brass and colourful outboard motor. Can you forgive me?
