Men with boats cheat

Boatsandcoats · 15/09/2024 21:54

The subject says it all!

I’ve long believed that men only buy boats to use them as floating love shacks. My friend thinks I’m being ridiculous and says boats are just a great lifestyle choice. Recently, she told me her husband is thinking of buying a boat, and I couldn’t help but give her that look! She insists he’d never cheat, but in my experience, every man I’ve known who had a boat wasn’t exactly faithful.

Honestly, if my husband bought one, I might even consider it grounds for divorce!

So, am I being unreasonable? Can men own boats without it leading to adultery, or am I totally right to be suspicious? Should men with boats just wear a t-shirt that says, "Don’t trust me?"

(For the record, this doesn’t apply to fishermen making a living or people who live on boats!)

That's dogging and that's known! Some become HGV drivers just because of the naughty public mischief.

I think you mean Dogger Bank. <nose tap>

Boatsandcoats · 16/09/2024 21:57

89% think I'm unreasonable oh woe is me but at least my husband doesn't have a boat. He does have an allotment, camper van, HGV, 2nd home, mullet with frosted tips, a selection of golf clubs and fishing rods, crabs and he does his own washing.
I'm sure he is fine at least he isn't a pilot!

@Boatsandcoats It really is. 😂 Honestly, thank you for all the laughs today. 😀 I will never look at a boat in the same way from now on. 😂

I thought those model train fans looked a little shifty

Oh god I bought DH a Flying Scotsman starter layout for Christmas! Since then he has been building up his layout and already been to a exhibition. What have I done?

Well you won't have to worry about other women! You could get him a boat just to balance it out!

It’s pretty difficult to have a decent shag on a topper.

🤣🤣🤣

Your DH has crabs and you're sure he's fine?

All my friends have boats. They’re all swingers so I think you’re on to something. One couple has four boats, god knows what they get up to.

Swinging isn't cheating though.

It sounds like you’re going through something challenging right now. Have you considered talking to a therapist? They can offer support and guidance to help you navigate through it

Doxiedolittle · 17/09/2024 17:57

My dad did. Before my poor late mum knew it his “secretary” was volunteering to “crew” for him on a weekend - next you know he’s left my mum on Valentine’s Day (nice) saying he needs space but really for a woman who’s 2 years younger than me his daughter. Creepy or what. However, they’re still together 20 odd years later. 5 years later my mum met (on Valentine’s Day too - replacing a bad memory on that day with something much nicer) and married a lovely guy and they had many happy years together before she passed away 2 years ago. Meanwhile the stepmother (NOT) is my dad’s full time carer. So yes I agree with Op she is spot on ANBU

Seashor · 17/09/2024 18:09

At one point we owned three. My husband must have been exhausted!!!!

WandaFishy99 · 17/09/2024 18:24

It sounds ridiculous, but thinking about it, my best friend's DH has a boat and he was having an affair with a woman he worked with. Who knows?

EmeraldA129 · 17/09/2024 18:25

I think it’s more that lots of men cheat (lots of women probably do too, though I personally don’t think quite as many), and if they’ve got enough disposable income to have a boat that they don’t live on or use for work then they fall into the category of men with enough disposable income to be able to have an affair & keep it secret with hotels/ other properties etc. more easily than others.

YANBU to notice a link, but I don’t think it’s quite that cut & dry.

Iwantnevergets · 17/09/2024 18:30

‘Course you’re NBU - you’d know that if you watched Howard’s Way

MagicFarawayTea · 17/09/2024 18:35

There must be some boat- related-dating-mishap-backstory here. Or was traumatised by watching Howards’ Way when growing up?

MeridianB · 17/09/2024 18:37

Immediately thought of the theme tune from Howards Way

Boatsandcoats · 17/09/2024 18:43

I have never heard if Howard's way but perhaps I need to look it up. I have no boat related trauma, I have never had a boat or had a partner or immediate family member with one so no I'm not 'going through' anything but thanks for your concern @LoveLifeBeHappy I do have a wonderful therapist but that's due to the work I do and is part if my contract.

We’ll depends on the boat. Husbands friend has a boat for fishing and is so uncomfortable you’d never get a woman in her right mind even on it. Do k know of someone who’s husband had a pleasure boat with a cabin and he did indeed cheat on it. We all called it the love boat.

Phlegminem · 17/09/2024 19:21

I'm going to say YANBU just because my mums partner has a shitty little boat and he's a shitty little man who cheats. Could very well be a boat thing 🤔

Roxietrees · 17/09/2024 19:27

I think rich men cheat because some women are attracted to their wealth therefore they can. Rich men often have boats. Normal men without boats don’t cheat because they don’t have the opportunity

Loopylambs · 17/09/2024 19:28

I can lightheartedly sympathise with this idea . A male work colleague had a boat and offered to take me and another female friend from our office out on it . We sailed along a little part of the south coast and then he dropped anchor near the beach . We were just getting the picnic lunch ready when I looked towards the shore , it was a busy nudist beach . One of the longest 40 minutes of my life before he agreed to move . Never again 😂

Was he expecting you and your friend to follow suit? Did you pick up on any dirty old man vibes?

We definitely felt uncomfortable and yes dirty old man vibes.

"It is my intention to commander one of these boat's pick up a crew in tortoga and raid ,pillage plunder and otherwise pillfer my weasly guts out." JD as capn jack.
So it must be true 👍 men cheat on boats 😂
