No women only spaces for 16 months. Basically women, RAPED women - were told they could not definitely see a woman to help them with such an awful crime, they might have to see a man in a dress, and if they objected they were to be 're eductaed' by the man in charge - a man who himself applied for, and got!! a job which was supposed to be only filled by a woman.

It's shameful, disgusting, but whats worse is how many people put up with it!! Who thought this was ok?! why did nobody do anything, or say anything FOR YEARS

Woman with head in her arms sitting on a bed

Edinburgh rape crisis centre failed to protect women-only spaces

The centre unfairly dismissed a worker who believed victims should know the sex of staff who deal with their case.

So you don’t think that women should have single sex rape crisis care if fhey need it? Wow.

Edited

No I think if they are under one roof, males need to be offered the same amount and level of care. If that can’t be done 2 buildings need to be provided. It’s not the job of rape victims to campaign and provide that.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 12/09/2024 17:16

@Saind3rs I'm sorry for your son but your "what about the menz" rhetoric is not really appropriate on a thread about females having been harmed by male inclusion in female only rape centres.

So a young raped teenage boy is supposed to set up his own centre to access support. Great!

The system we have in our area is they are under 1 roof, my son had more important things to process than campaigning for male rights after his rape. 🤔

I'm sorry about your son. That must be so difficult for you all.

Women's Aid can provide specialist support to male survivors and there's a database here of support:
https://www.survivorsuk.org/ways-we-can-help/national-database/

SurvivorsUK | National Database of Male Sexual Abuse Counselling and Support Services

This database includes qualified counsellors, psychotherapists, arts therapists and psychologists who work with male and non-binary people who have experienced

Well it is if services for male survivors are reduced even more.

Khelsea · 12/09/2024 17:18

Why would you be embarrassed/humiliated over the actions of someone/something else? That doesn't even make any sense?

Well what do you think the women who set up the first centres had gone through? It's not women's fault that men ignore male rape, and then muscle in on women's spaces.

I am sorry for what happened to your son, but him being in a space with traumatised women wouldn't have been right.

You sound absolutely disgusted that your son would be expected to campaign for a resource for men to be available.

Yet that's exactly what every woman has to do, every time, through history and continuing today.

This post is about the right of women to have trauma informed / single sex rape crisis care.

it is awful that your son was raped but the fact that some men are raped doesn’t alter the fact that, for many women, single sex care after being raped is essential.

in any event this is not about male rape victims , it is about a legal male taking a women only post in a rape crisis centre to forward the trans agenda at the expense of women’s needs. This man, as far as I know, still holds his job,

This is not about your son.

Some men have no choice being in rape centres because they’ve been raped and that’s where the support is based.

Nope. Men can fundraiser for, Lobby for, volunteer for men’s rape crisis support as women had to. Women’s services are for women only.

Male rape victims typically have different needs and injuries, different requirements from female victims. The training for therapists and support workers is different.

There are centres set up to support male victims - mostly set up by women moving across from women's rape crisis centres, some set up by some of the (male) old school campaigners from related charities, knowledgeable in rape crisis for men.

Use the experience to support campaigns for more support for men, not to argue to remove the support and protection from women.

Yea I am disgusted that a traumatised boy suffering from complex ptsd would be expected to campaign for help after a rape. His mind is rather busy as it is coping with trauma.

Arraminta · 12/09/2024 17:21

Men are whatever men say they are. Women are also whatever men say they are. Raped women can only receive the support that men deem appropriate. Women must reframe their experience of rape in ways that don't offend men.

This is how I know that Trans Women are, so very obviously, men. Men!

There isn’t anything near us, it’s the same centre ( male and women). My son needs help now not years down the line and I am busy supporting him.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 12/09/2024 17:22

You’re not at all wrong OP - I can’t believe anyone would think women shouldn’t have their own specific single sex rape support services

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 12/09/2024 17:24

What on earth makes you think services for men will be reduced? 🤔

But nothing will change for the next son if you just demand removal of women's specialist centres.

Not now but in time find people to work with in this area who build both specialist services. Removing women's does nothing for women or for future men who will not be getting the specialist help they need.

murasaki · 12/09/2024 17:24

Well I suspect 1 day per week is probably on par, if not generous, given the rape statistics for men and women.

Our centre is for men and women and when you are dealing with crisis you need support not a campaign.

It’s useless if you absolutely can’t do that day and get offered nothing else. Every rape victim should be offered the same level and quality of services.

You seem to be spectacularly missing the point here pet. Nothing will change other than females will not be gaslit into thinking that their services are female only. The male services will continue as is. Almost like you're deliberately missing the point ...

Fat chance. You've got to remember than males are the most vulnerable. Particularly when they're wearing a dress.

Agreed this is not about male race crisis support it is about the right of women to have trauma informed /single sex services which , I believe forms the national standard in any event.

So where's your anger for the women who had to campaign after being in exactly the same position?

You've massively missed the point of why this thread was started and immediately tried to make a female issue about your son. This isn't about him. This is about men coming into women's safe spaces and telling them how they should feel and act after they've been raped.

The entitlement of men and their apologists is astounding.
