No women only spaces for 16 months. Basically women, RAPED women - were told they could not definitely see a woman to help them with such an awful crime, they might have to see a man in a dress, and if they objected they were to be 're eductaed' by the man in charge - a man who himself applied for, and got!! a job which was supposed to be only filled by a woman.

It's shameful, disgusting, but whats worse is how many people put up with it!! Who thought this was ok?! why did nobody do anything, or say anything FOR YEARS

Woman with head in her arms sitting on a bed

Edinburgh rape crisis centre failed to protect women-only spaces

The centre unfairly dismissed a worker who believed victims should know the sex of staff who deal with their case.

*Never forget the sucess of TRAs sucess is based on the underlying much older misogyny of MRAs. If men's rights wasn't the default social norm, TRAs would never have got a foothold8

After all if society respect women, TRAs would have been laughed out of existence. It is the underlying lack of respect for women, let alone their right to autonomy, that made it possible for people to accept that if a man says he is a woman he must be right

@IwantToRetire So true, so true

Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre website still refers to females as "a woman who has always lived as a woman". https://www.ercc.scot/women-only-services/

Beira's Place refers to women and explains that [1] Equality Act (2010) Provision 212: General Interpretation (1) (d) “’woman’ means a female of any age” https://beirasplace.org.uk/contact/

If I needed help, I know where I'd want to go. Not so easy for people with learning difficulties, second language, haven't followed the story

Exactly. Its unfair and deceitful marketing. A male will argue they've been a woman since adulthood and that definitely means them.

Some males will also argue they are female, but the wording is clear enough to make clear in return that no, the linguistics are reality based, not wish based, and boundaries will be held because some women need male-free spaces and how males feel about that is not relevant.

BBC. Published about 20 mins ago

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cj310jvzpd8o

Acknowledging that Ms Wadhwa's appointment had been controversial, Ms Brindley said: "I was not involved in that appointment or that decision. But what I would say is that most rape crisis centres in Scotland provide support to men, women, trans people and non-binary people.

"There is no inherent reason within that, that you could have a trans person working within a rape crisis centre.

"I think what is crucial however, is that if you do have a rape crisis service, that is supporting all survivors is that there's dedicated women-only spaces within that."

Ms Brindley added she "absolutely recognised" that women-only spaces were a priority for many women using rape support services.

AND

The report also said there was "evidence that the actions of some ERCC staff had caused damage to some survivors", and that concerns had been raised that some women were "excluding themselves from approaching Rape Crisis Centres including ERCC" because of their aproach to gender identity.

Ms Ling also said she had been made aware that some professionals had heard that "some survivors did not feel safe using the centre".

After the report was published, Rape Crisis Scotland said it would pause referrals to ERCC - though people can still self-refer - until it was happy the review recommendations had been put in place.

Ms Brindley said she knew nothing of issues at the centre until October last year.

She said she then advised the ERCC board to settle the case rather than proceeding with the employment tribunal and acknowledged she should have been aware of the conflict sooner

Ms Brindley added there had been "significant failures" at the ERCC and she hoped to introduce a "robust framework of assessment" to make sure the national standards are followed and that women-only spaces are provided in future

So right let me get this straight. Some author found out about issues at ERCC and had time to set up a completely new service but the head of Rape Crisis Scotland was completely unaware of the issues at ERCC and why Beira's Place had been set up?

What the fuck was she doing? Snoring at her desk? And that letter in the Scottish Parliament archive? She wasn't present at that meeting? Despite her partner and her actual body being there.

Are we seriously supposed to accept this account?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 19/09/2024 17:37

brindley has the insane arrogance & confidence of ‘the righteous’ or as we would say the hide of a rhinoceros

she’s going to try and brazen this out because she can’t possibly imagine for one second that she’s wrong

Anastomosisrex · 19/09/2024 18:10

We're going for the Boris Johnson brass balls and brazening it out. Any minute now: 'I made this complete and utter mess and therefore I am the person to fix it!'.

Those women were harmed because of her as much as the man in charge of the centre. And she was at the best, open minded about that happening to them.

RedToothBrush · 19/09/2024 18:12

I can only hope she has football manager levels of 'full support from the board'.

I'm not holding my breath though.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 19/09/2024 18:23

I hope her boss "has full confidence in her", which as we know means that the cabinet member in question will be out within a week of a prime minister saying it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/09/2024 18:28

She really is a piece of work.

'A woman who has always lived as a woman' is completely meaningless. It's like saying a fifflewap is something that's always been a fifflewap. Doesn't tell me what a fifflewap is, or isn't.

Plus no woman has always had lived as a woman, we all started as girls. And there's no way to 'live as a woman' other than to be a woman - do I live as a brown eyed person? Or a two legged person? It's weaselly and insulting

nothingcomestonothing · 19/09/2024 21:58

So does she want us to think she's a liar or incompetent? Or both? Oh no wait she doesn't give a shit what we think, she's one of The Righteous so she doesn't have to care about the opinions of the unenlightened plebs.

The thing that annoys me most about these people is they really do think we are thick enough to not notice when we are being lied to. Credit us with some brains Sandra love! We aren’t all as thick as you!

It’s so bloody patronising. The only avenue she has open to her is resign and remove herself from public life, but that would rely on her having skills that could be transferred into another job, and these skills seem to be lacking.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 20/09/2024 08:39

The 'reframe your traima' podcast was August 2021. Beira's Place was set up in December 2022. Police Scotland statted referring women to Beira's in June 2023. But it was October 2023 before Rape Crisis Scotland noticed anything?

Not buying it.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 20/09/2024 08:42

Side point - does anyone know why Mridul goes by that name rather than the female version Mridula? It seems an odd choice for a transwoman, and in the circumstances a rather provocative one.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/09/2024 10:09

The 'reframe your traima' podcast was August 2021.

When supposedly ERCC was bombarded with transphobia and threats. Is she saying she wasn't aware of this? Interesting

State of this interview with Brindley!

“I’m never upset in front of my daughter. She said, ‘What’s wrong?’” Brindley recalls. “I said, ‘Someone’s calling for my resignation’. She asked: ‘Who?’ I told her: ‘JK Rowling.’”
Brindley’s little girl looked up at her and said: “That’s one of my favourite authors, mummy.”

By now Brindley’s eyes are twinkling as she recounts the incident. “What I didn’t then say was: ‘Well, it’s me or her!” she says, dissolving into laughter.

What a big bad meanie JKR is, picking on poor defenceless crying Sandy.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 22/09/2024 07:43

Waaaah I just want to help rape victims (providing of course they agree TWAW and don’t want anything annoying like single sex services)

brindley is is the centre of her own universe. Of course she’s playing all the usual cards and weaponising jkr in her defence because let’s face it, in Sandy’s Scottish circle that’s instant sympathy isn’t it. It’s the sign of the right thinking, that you hate JKR & never mind she founded Abd funded a support service for women

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/09/2024 08:37

That journalist has written a ton of trans stories related to Scotland. He appears to have written all or most of the stories relating to ERCC but also on other topics.

WandsOut · 22/09/2024 08:46

I read the whole interview in Moaning Myrtle's breathless rasp.

Charities regulator?

The board of RCS should really be stepping up and drawing a line under this. MSPs and MPs could also do something. They are all cowards apart from the Tories and Alba who have replied to my emails. The rest are wishing this would all just go away.

Well I have news for them, this is not going away. It's going to run and run.

Offering up the phone numbers of survivors must breach GDPR and any kind of ethical standards. How can Sandy survive this?

www.scotsman.com/news/opinion/columnists/scots-politicians-would-like-edinburgh-rape-crisis-centre-scandal-to-simply-vanish-4791974

From this damning article

Cole-Hamilton and 85 other MSPs voted in favour of the bill, while 39 were opposed. When the result was announced, the Lib Dem leader and other frontbenchers stood and turned to face a group of trans rights activists – including a number who had posted abusive and threatening messages about biological women online – and applauded. It was a nauseating display by slow-witted men and women whose desire to be seen as being on “the right side of history” trumped any serious consideration of the matter or any concern for women whose right to female-only spaces they were thrilled to remove.
When it became clear, early in 2023, that then Scottish Secretary Alister Jackk* was minded to block the new law on the reasonable grounds that it was incompatible with the existing UK-wide Equality Act, Cole-Hamilton was among those politicians who further humiliated themselves in order to “be kind”. He appeared at a rally in Glasgow, praising trans women for their courage. He singled out activist Beth Douglas – later suspended from the Scottish Greens over complaints about violent online posts, including some photos featuring axes and knives – for praise,
In his best approximation of sincerity, Cole-Hamilton said: “Beth was with us in the public gallery of the Scottish Parliament throughout all of those late-night sessions… in the really dark hours we would look up and see Beth and it was for Beth, for you guys, that we’re doing it.”

Is she seriously saying that being a black woman and having a penis then claiming to be a woman are comparable?

She really is tone deaf and all about meeeeeeeeeeeeeee

What the actual?

Brindley has no morals. This is very very unkind of her.
