No women only spaces for 16 months. Basically women, RAPED women - were told they could not definitely see a woman to help them with such an awful crime, they might have to see a man in a dress, and if they objected they were to be 're eductaed' by the man in charge - a man who himself applied for, and got!! a job which was supposed to be only filled by a woman.

It's shameful, disgusting, but whats worse is how many people put up with it!! Who thought this was ok?! why did nobody do anything, or say anything FOR YEARS

Woman with head in her arms sitting on a bed

Edinburgh rape crisis centre failed to protect women-only spaces

The centre unfairly dismissed a worker who believed victims should know the sex of staff who deal with their case.

I think you mean horrified, but yes, you aren't wrong.
It's utterly disgusting.

poppyzbrite4 · 12/09/2024 16:36

It looks like the it all came out because a survivor, quite rightly, wanted a female support worker.

The whole thing is awful and of course, women were the victims. Both Roz Adams who had to go through the stress of a tribunal and the survivors of sexual assault who couldn't get support.

noworklifebalance · 12/09/2024 16:36

It always comes down to the needs and rights of a man above all else.

You would think a rape centre of all places would actually listen to the needs of the victim but no, not when there maybe a man to consider. What a surprise.

HRTQueen · 12/09/2024 16:39

A male said this was fine

So apparently we should accept this because the male wants to be female

Its horrific what has happened to being empathic, what's happened to being understanding and caring towards traumatised woman

We have been always blamed for men sexually assaulting us, a slight shift in recent years in attitudes and now once again we have males deciding how we should be treated once we reach out for support

Just let us decided and created our boundaries

Verv · 12/09/2024 16:39

Surprising that RCS is feigning surprise when it was utterly complicit.

Oh look what a surprise. Putting a male in charge of a female only facility has harmed females.

Who would have thought it? 🤔 Oh yeah women did. Actual women, who were called bigoted for pointing out what would happen.

What an absolute disgrace. Heads should roll. But this is Scotland so they won't.

Indeed. I wonder if the damning statement about the head of RCS that a collective group of rape victims released as part of a consultation to the Scottish government (which got ignored) will also be released to prove this point.

Joan McAlpine details what happened and what Sandy did that day to those women (what she allowed to happen in the meeting) in this article:-

Their faux surprise statement is absolutely shocking. They were completely and utterly complicit in this entire thing.

How a service set up for traumatised women forgot its core function

Evidence from the employment tribunal involving Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre stirred some distressing memories. A servic...

Sandy Brindley needs to be the second person to go after Mridul.

Delphinium20 · 12/09/2024 16:52

Men should NEVER, ever be in charge of rape crisis services or involved providing care services for women who are victims of rape.

MinnieCauldwell · 12/09/2024 16:56

Theres also a thread on FWR, regulars there have been aware of this for a few years now. Glad it's getting out in to the general domain. This is why JKR funded a rape crisis centre for women only.

Not even the rights of men, just the desires, men larping are prioritised above raped women.

CatCatBoing · 12/09/2024 17:03

Yep, it's disgusting.

Men have no place in women's crisis centres. Even if they're larping as a woman.

Saind3rs · 12/09/2024 17:08

If men aren’t to be involved at all the whole system needs changing as currently males experiencing rape struggle to get the support they need. My son was raped and got nothing as the rape support centre would only let him access support 1 day a week which he couldn’t do as opposed to the 4 days a week women were offered because he couldn’t be on the premises. Men, women and trans should all get the same level of support. Rape is Rape. The whole system needs overhauling. He has still had zilch and is expected to process a court case and the rape itself on the back of zero therapy and support. Women only spaces shouldn’t be protected at the expense of male survivors. I don’t understand why there aren’t separate buildings offering exactly the same.

Some men have no choice being in rape centres because they’ve been raped and that’s where the support is based.

YellowphantGrey · 12/09/2024 17:10

It's horrendous but sadly not surprising.

Any sign of anything where a woman can be safe, men have to muscle in, in some shape or form or feel the need to share their (often unwanted) opinion about it.

It worries men too much that women have resources to help them and to help them become stronger and help them to see that it wasn't their fault.

Absoloo · 12/09/2024 17:10

"They were concerned about statements by Mridul Wadhwa, a trans-identified male, who then ran Forth Valley Rape Crisis and had a senior role training volunteers in the service across Scotland. Wadhwa publicly criticised the part of the Equality Act that allowed jobs in the violence against women sector to be reserved for females. The Forth Valley Rape Crisis Twitter page was illustrated with a photograph of protestors brandishing a pink and blue trans-rights flag. "

Hmm, call me cynical but why is this person so involved in the world of women's rape support??

lifeturnsonadime · 12/09/2024 17:11

Hasn’t he been sacked yet? 😮

it’s disgraceful that he wasn’t sacked immediately after that employment tribunal.

No one is suggesting that men shouldn’t have rape care if they need it. Talk about missing the point 🙄

murasaki · 12/09/2024 17:13

Men can set up their own rape crisis centres. How do they think the existing ones started?

So you don’t think that women should have single sex rape crisis care if fhey need it? Wow.

She said that men have no place in women's rape centres. Of course men who have been raped need support. But that support cannot come at the cost of harming female survivors as ERCC have done.

Saind3rs · 12/09/2024 17:15

murasaki · 12/09/2024 17:13

So a young raped teenage boy is supposed to set up his own centre to access support. Great!

The system we have in our area is they are under 1 roof, my son had more important things to process than campaigning for male rights after his rape. 🤔

Show me where anyone has said that men shouldn't receive support after being raped?

I'm sorry your son was raped. However this is about men decided what is best for women who have been raped and deciding that men are best placed to deal with women.

It's another way to attempt to silence them.
