No women only spaces for 16 months. Basically women, RAPED women - were told they could not definitely see a woman to help them with such an awful crime, they might have to see a man in a dress, and if they objected they were to be 're eductaed' by the man in charge - a man who himself applied for, and got!! a job which was supposed to be only filled by a woman.

It's shameful, disgusting, but whats worse is how many people put up with it!! Who thought this was ok?! why did nobody do anything, or say anything FOR YEARS

Woman with head in her arms sitting on a bed

Edinburgh rape crisis centre failed to protect women-only spaces

The centre unfairly dismissed a worker who believed victims should know the sex of staff who deal with their case.

It’s not equal though is it?

Have you seen what happened to Sarah Summers. 3 options there for the male but not one option for a woman who needed single sex care.

Edited

Not common in our area. There is one rape centre. Men get raped too and are just as deserving of treatment.

lifeturnsonadime · 12/09/2024 18:55

I posted too soon.

So please come back when women have achieved equality. The way men who identify as women has run roughshod on women’s single sex services means there is no equality for women. This has zero to do with male rape victims. Where’s your empathy for women like Sarah?

For RAPE

Which is overwhelmingly a woman's problem. Absolutely disgusting.

No one has said men don’t deserve rape care. It’s a different issue. Start your own thread rather than distracting from a very real issue for women.

I can post where I like. As I said women’s rights appear on every other thread.

Stop!!! Just stop!!!!!

This is about women!!!!!!!

Why do you have to come on and make it a male issue??????

TheKeatingFive · 12/09/2024 18:58

Anyway. Is Wadhwa still in a job do we know?

spannasaurus · 12/09/2024 18:59

This has just been reported on the BBC1 news at 6.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 12/09/2024 18:59

I'm not really comfortable with referring to a trans woman, who has lived as a woman for many many years, as a man.

Could you explain how he's lived as a woman for many years? Has he had to cope with periods? Leaking pads? Hormal contraceptives? Internal ones? Morning after pill? Pregnancy, birth, or termination? Earning 20% less than male counterparts? Sexually harassed while walking down the street? Been spoken over and had his needs ignored? Been given the task of serving the coffee despite being more senior than all the men in the room? Driven a car that has never been tested for their safety? Taken medicine that has never been tested for their safety? I could go on.

So how exactly has he been living as a women? Millions of women would really like to know.

Astonishing.

TheKeatingFive · 12/09/2024 18:59

Wadhwa peaked me, so this one's close to my heart.

Georgyporky · 12/09/2024 18:59

I'd let men have those sort of jobs, providing they have their bits chopped off first.

I'm kind-hearted really, I'd let them have an anaesthetic.

Alongside male apologists like yourself who are doing the work of the patriarchy and not allowing women to have their say on issues that affect them without making sure that no one forgets about the poor men, not even for a minute.

I'm sure there will be men along soon to tell us how we are living as women incorrectly.

Mridul Wadwha must be sacked now. He's a disgrace. Who were the directors of ERCC and Scottish Rape Crisis at the time who allowed this abuse to carry on? They must all be held accountable, not just him.

My understanding is that the board was very young, inexperienced and mostly put in place by Wadhwa himself. There was also a lot of churn. I'm not sure what would be appropriate here.

lifeturnsonadime · 12/09/2024 19:05

Surely there must be some governance when charities are run in this way? If he’s effectively unsackable because he’s structured the board that way surely something like the charity commission can intervene ?

Men get raped. Men also possess the equipment to rape. Can you not see why women would want to be as far away from the sex and the equipment that has done that to them...and to not have to spend a tiny second of their recovery making things more comfortable for the 'penis-havers' regardless of what has happened to that man. Men are raped. Women are raped. The only sex doing the raping is MEN. Presumably if a male rape survivor requested female only staff he would expect that to be provided and he would never be expected to put up with an intimate anal examination by a male since he'd recently been raped by one.

Willyoujustbequiet · 12/09/2024 19:09

Saind3rs · 12/09/2024 17:21

Yea I am disgusted that a traumatised boy suffering from complex ptsd would be expected to campaign for help after a rape. His mind is rather busy as it is coping with trauma.

I'm sorry for what happened to your son.

But that does not mean female victims should be further traumatised by accepting males into their safe space.

I’ve made it clear that women rape survivors need women only spaces however male rape survivors need adequate and accessible provision too and that provision shouldn’t be reduced even further. If equal adequate services can’t be provided under one roof there should be additional buildings.

No thankyou. I’ll post what I feel on the subject, you don’t get to dictate. It’s a parenting discussion forum. I am the mother of a raped child and can voice my views.

OuterSpaceCadet · 12/09/2024 19:13

I followed some of the Roz's tribunal at the time.

One shocking detail that I don't think has been mentioned in this thread is that on top of all the creepy and inappropriate behaviour, MW made it a policy not to ever refer women on to Beira's Place.

So he might know exactly why a particular client couldn't work with Edinburgh Rape crisis but refused to signpost to a suitable alternative out of spite.

Because of course women who know men are men don't deserve rape crisis support.

Where the fuck have we gone wrong that so many people are willing to play along with the utter BULLSHIT that using plain accessible language about REALITY is somehow so terrible, so upsetting, so shocking, that it even eclipses the sheer fucking horror that is rape (I speak from experience).

Then go and campaign for them. Women have campaigned for years for our own spaces. We absolutely do not want anyone with a penis anywhere near them.

You're voicing it on the wrong thread. I'm sorry for your son but you're fighting a different battle to the topic here. You're unnecessarily upsetting yourself by keep coming back and commenting.
