Halloween duvet sets. WTF?

Saw in Home Bargains today. Took no notice of sizes or prices.

This is worse than Xmas bedding and cushions.

I think having themed bedding is pointless and besides you want a Xmas free room to chill out

@MouseofCommons I have a double quilt cover that I've had since circa 1997 (although annoyingly lost one of the matching pillowcases) and a single one that is probably from about 1988 ish - although that one is quite faded now.
Quilt covers last for years.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 30/08/2024 18:54

I don’t do seasonal bedding but I am rather fond of a seasonal door wreath. I’ve just removed my summer sunflower one to put my new autumnal one I just bought from tkmaxx! It will get swapped for the Halloween one I bought a few years ago. Which in turn gets swapped for a plain green eucalyptus one that is probably getting quite tatty now because I’ve had it for years but that will stay up until I put my Christmas one up and then go back up afterwards until spring and Easter.

Old quilt covers are the best, they’re so soft and snuggly.

@Butteredtoast55

link??

I have spent way too much time on here since I joined when it practically started. I have never seen a post saying anyone has thrown away seasonal bedding after one season

I've also been on for years ..but I'm certainly not rummaging around for a link.

Clarabell77 · 30/08/2024 18:59

Can’t stand the hype around Halloween but we do have Christmas duvet sets.

Needmorelego · 30/08/2024 19:03

@AmazingBouncingFerret I'm not sure how much longer the late 80s single one is going to survive. It's getting very thin. One false move with one of my daughter's sharp toe nails and the poor thing is gonna get a big rip.
But it's had a good life 😂

ImAnAutum · 30/08/2024 19:11

I count down for summer to be over. Mainly because where I live, we have no summer! Autum/winter is my season. I just told dh the other day, I think I have the opposite of SAD.

I decorate for autum from Sept, in MY house, with MY stuff, that I buy with MY money. And to be honest, I really can't say I spend any time in my life working myself up about what people buy what duvet covers. Maybe I've just got too much going on in my life and people really do get upset over that stuff.

I certainly don't throw things away each season. Autum stuff is stored. Bedding etc vacuum packed away, yes Halloween bedding too! Same as Christmas decorations. We also decorate for spring and Easter and shock horror have bedding sets too. I honestly can't comprehend how or why anyone would care!

notedbiscuits · 30/08/2024 19:12

Just to let others I just decorate my lounge with a Christmas tree and a few wooden decorations on windowsill from Tiger. No other seasonal stuff throughout the year.

Have not the space to store this stuff,

Earlier this week I had been wearing winter themed PJs as its Thumper from Bambi playing in the snow!

Happy days for the goths!

Toottooot · 30/08/2024 19:17

Yaaaasss min. Mine is gan on fae 1st September then I’ll change to Christmas bedding fae 1st November. Canna wait.

MSLRT · 30/08/2024 19:34

If it makes people happy then what business is it of yours.

Rory17384949 · 30/08/2024 16:30

It's so wasteful! It's even worse than Christmas bedding because at least you can use Christmas ones for 6 weeks or so

Why is it wasteful?

It's not like people are putting it on just for one day and then binning it, is it?

Most people, I imagine, aren't doing that. I put mine on for a season i.e., I have my autumnal fox bedding for September and then for October, I have my Nightmare before Christmas bedding (which is more focused on the Halloween aspects) for Halloween.

I bring them out year after year, so no, it's not wasteful.

kittensinthekitchen · 30/08/2024 19:44

You spend faaaaar too much time scrutinising other people's shopping habits.

XenoBitch · 30/08/2024 19:44

YABVU

Like a few others on this thread, I have Halloween homeware out all year round. It is my aesthetic... what I buy and use has no impact on you at all.

Diversion · 30/08/2024 19:49

Everyday is Halloween in my house. I would never buy Christmas PJ's or duvet covers but love the sales after Halloween when I can often find the duvet sets on sale. Not overly fond of Christmas really but make it nice for the family and just have a tree up decorated in black and silver with various bat and gothic baubles. Not my taste, but I applaud those who have the patience to decorate their whole house for Christmas and take it all down again afterwards.

usernother · 30/08/2024 19:49

They only sell it because people buy it. I have no idea why they do, but they do.

My best friend is Halloween & horror obsessed. Her house is decorated with this kind of stuff 24/7 and I’m glad it’s available these days for those who like it. You’re not expected to decorate with this stuff yourself, it’s just on sale for those that do 🤷‍♀️

We have different duvet covers for each of the 'festivals' throughout the year.
We begin on January 1st with the Feast of the Circumcision of Christ.

I have to admit it's not my favorite set as the pillow cases seem to be too short and consequently the pillow pokes out the end.

🤣🤣🤣
Thank you @TwoLeftSocksWithHoles for making me laugh out loud

SleepingStandingUp · 30/08/2024 19:56

It's not like someone is putting it on their bed 31st October and chucking it in the bin November 1st is it? It'll just be the one they swap it into when they change the beds that week and it may well go on several times in the year or once a year and last for decades.

Izzymoon · 30/08/2024 19:58

@notedbiscuits Earlier this week I had been wearing winter themed PJs as its Thumper from Bambi playing in the snow!

So themed seasonal pjs are fine but you draw the line at duvet covers? Weird metric.

Wilko: new for this year - 171 autumn themed items. Who needs this?

https://www.wilko.com/en-uk/the-autumn-collection/c/5421

Who needs any type of decorations though? No one needs lamps that aren't plain and functional, ornaments, pretty picture frames, pictures, etc. All wallpaper could be magnolia and all curtains plain grey to match all carpets whilst all sofas are black. I don't need a pretty bookcase, I just need some sheets of wood built into place. People don't need fancy wooden cupboard doors or those tables with the cracks filled in with that clear solid stuff. They don't need clothes that are anything but grey, plain, and functional.

But gosh what a boring world where you only buy the bare basics to meet your needs.

We have one from the late 70s! MIL bought it in Austria.

It’s absolutely hideous, and it is a ground sheet etc for decorating now.

Nottodaythankyou123 · 30/08/2024 20:15

I have three sets of bedding (one a pale floral, one pumpkin and one Christmas) and use the floral spring/summer, change to pumpkins when the weather changes and then christmas mid November (and then use the others as spare). I’ve had them years and don’t think it’s particularly excessive and it makes me excited for autumn then Christmas. I also have a Christmas mug and a pumpkin mug, and tend to buy seasonally scented diffusers and candles when I run out. I draw the line at a pumpkin bath mat though!

Pineappleprep · 30/08/2024 20:15

StaunchMomma · 30/08/2024 18:10

This is purely exciting to me. I'd 100% sleep under a cute ghost duvet cover if DH would let me!

Halloween is by far my fave time of the year bar Xmas. It's like a spooky intro to the Xmas period.

I will be decorating the house and probably purchasing more gargoyles.

Yaaaayyyy!!!

You need to gradually start adding spooky bits over time to get him acclimatized, like a goldfish in a new tank.
I started placing the odd pumpkin ornament around the house in late June and now my DP is putting up my maple leaf fairy lights up for me and deciding which autumnal bedding set we should have on the bed. This is a man who when I ask him where to put the Christmas tree, he says the bin. I'm slowly converting him

Because they like it? It’s not that difficult a concept surely, even if you dont personally like it!
