This is a letter from a female employee of John Lewis's Cheadle branch. John Lewis told its female employees that they have to share toilets and locker rooms with trans identifying men. The employee says this is having a terrible effect especially on colleagues who have experienced trauma relating to men or who have religious reasons to not want to share a space with someone who is the opposite sex.

If transwomen aren't male then they must be female. If they are female then how are they transwomen?

There are only two sexes, that is not opinion, it is a very well established fact.

It's absolutely fine that it's not an issue for you. But it IS an issue for many women. Losing the right to single sex spaces IS an erosion of women's rights. If you don't care and want to share with blokes that's up to you, but other women have a right to be safe.

Male and female are biological terms and sex is binary. That you can't change sex is a fact. However, people who identify as trans believe you can have a different gender from your birth sex. Hence the word trans meaning changing from one to another. I agree there are a lot of people who believe that people can change gender. I do not believe that but I understand some people do. However, a person's sex is relevant in certain situations one of which is preservation of single sex spaces.

Re dogs in shops and other public spaces, I work in a major tourist attraction and if visitors are questioned about having their dog with them, they just claim it's a therapy dog and there's nothing we can do about it. The PR nightmare around telling someone they can't enter with their therapy dog is too risky and people know they can flout the rules in this way so there's nothing to be done about it unless new rules state the dogs must have a special therapy lead or coat identifying them as such. People can obviously still just buy these things but it would help somewhat with the people who take advantage of the system.

No, a GRC is a legal fiction that was what it was put into Law as. There are restrictions on those with GRCs regarding the spaces they can access and those with GRCs can be refused access to any female only spaces legitimately and legally. If transwomen were actually female and not male there would be no restrictions would there?

Less than 1% of the UK population are transgender. It is extremely hard for transpeople to get jobs. My family member is one such person. Discrimination is a daily occurrence. I doubt if every JLP store has a transperson on the payroll.
All three main parties confirmed their stance on sex at the election box. JLP may think they are being inclusive, they're not. Third spaces are now needed. Very few people wish transpeople harm but most people agree you can't change sex including my family member. Indeed few have surgery these days. The problem is the stores don't want to adapt their shop fittings so they don't really think this through. 'we'll bung it into female changing' sorry no. You are breaching other protected parties. That's illegal and they bloody well know it. They will lose business but ill thought out policies bite business on the arse.

You are behind the curve @ElleWoods15 every survey done of the general public shows that the majority of the public, (and the numbers rise higher every time the survey is done) do not believe that people can change sex or that transwomen are women and nor does the general public support males, any males and that includes TW, in women's spaces and sports.
