I've seen about 8 threads in the last 2 days with posters writing ect when they obviously mean etc. I probably am being U but it really does irrationally fucking irritate me!

I need to get out more, yes. I've had two (big) glasses of wine 😂.

So, am I?

Yes, that relationship would have been dead in the water.

What pacifically is your AIBU?

🤣🤣🤣

Also the me and I thing. It's quite simple, take the other person out of the equation, so 'Claire and me were going to the shop', you'd never say 'me was going to the shop', you'd say I, not hard.

Unfortunately what seems more usual is that people now say “me and Claire”. Or even “myself and Claire”.

Plastoslax · 23/08/2024 23:04

It's Et Cetera!

The other one is:
"me and her went to the cinema"

Or "me and Dh went on holiday"

I tend to not read after those mistakes

I think it probably just makes them feel that little bit less comfortable on here.

Which is the intention on these sort of threads. It's a bit like your sort are not welcome here,

lcakethereforeIam · 23/08/2024 23:06

If you're 'spitting feathers' you are thirsty! Angry is 'spitting nails'.

Thank you for the 'alot', it'll help me a bit.

And a 'staycation' is when you take time off work but don't go away. Instead you stay at home. Going on holiday in the UK is still a holiday!

As this is pedants’ corner, I think you win - incredible in the sense of amazing was first noted in 1529.

Which merely shows that people have been misusing words for a very long time. Incredibly.

Everyone is welcome, and if I can help just one person to stop using ect then great. I assume they don't know it's etc so this is more of a public service announcement than anything else.

I struggled with the I/me thing until it l was explained to me, and I'm very grateful. Now I can use it correctly without people thinking I'm a moron (though they might think I'm a moron for other reasons, some of which will be absolutely justified)

Im one of them threads however Yanbu to be irrationally irritated as I'm the same on here everytime someone has a police matter and multiple posters tell them to call 111 it drives me nuts

@IceCreamWoes Oh can someone borrow me a cup of sugar??? there is a whole host of disgraceful errors in some things we read. I often wonder if some people ever went to school!

Is that a thing? Same rule still applies though.

Do you really think this thread makes people who struggle with SPAG feel welcome? It doesn't, it make them feel like shit.

scattychicken · 23/08/2024 23:16

Can I add people who want to order an "expresso"?!! Gahhhhhhhhh

Their are 2 types of people in this world people who spend time checking spelling and grammar and think it's important then theirs people like me who think it's an online forum not a job application does it really matter aslong as others can understand it

Well maybe they might learn something and improve their SPAG. Or they can ignore it. Many threads talk about things people don't like or aren't interested in, they ignore them.

The point is where they can't, lend and borrow being a good example, you have to re read several times to figure out what's going on. It matters in terms of communication.
