To think that they had no self-awareness? (It's a child-free wedding one)

One of my close relatives got married last year. It was child free but I was breastfeeding. I asked him if husband could bring baby to venue car park so I could breastfeed and then take baby away again during the day (it was in the middle of no-where) so that I could still attend and he said no because it was unfair on other guests. Fair enough. We decided to decline.

They've just had a baby and got invite to a child-free wedding and BROUGHT THE BABY ANYWAY and are now appalled that they were asked to leave.

Do people have no self-awareness? Do people just not care about things until it affects them?

Did you point out that they had done exactly the same thing to you?

Billybagpuss · 19/08/2024 11:05

Just sit there trying not to look smugly perplexed while they rant 😂

Maray1967 · 19/08/2024 11:06

Have you reminded them what they said to you with regard to their wedding? I’d love to know what their response was !!

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 19/08/2024 11:06

They sounds like idiots of the highest magnitude. The CF wedding is almost a bit of a red herring, if they are that thoughtless and entitled it must be apparent in a lot of their interactions.

Rosscameasdoody · 19/08/2024 11:07

To be honest I think anyone who insists on a child free wedding hasn’t much awareness of the difficulties of parenting. I understand that they don’t want a baby crying in the middle of the ceremony, but I’ve been to plenty of weddings were babies were present, and the mums quietly took them out if they were fussing. I don’t think it’s a big deal. But to answer your question, yes, definitely CF’s to turn up with the baby despite knowing it was child free, especially after being so unreasonable about your own breastfed baby to the point where you had to decline the invitation.

Borninabarn32 · 19/08/2024 11:09

Please tell me you reminded them how they treated you?!

When SIL was towards the end of her pregnancy she put a rant on fb about people asking if baby was here yet etc. I sent her screenshots of all the messages she sent me not a year prior doing the same thing to me.

People without children genuinely have no idea.

Referring to your last sentence: No they don't .

Some people truly do believe they are the main character of the universe.

DonttouchthatLarry · 19/08/2024 11:10

If you were happy with the feeding in the car park arrangement you should have just done it without asking permission! They can dictate who attends the wedding but surely don't control the car park. However I would have declined anyway.

MorrisZapp · 19/08/2024 11:13

Well yes but this is standard. See also look at all those spoiled brats eating pizza and looking at ipads, I would never parent like that.

Life punches you in the face.

To be fair, they now have a child and are still behaving like the world owes them a favour.

DecafDodger · 19/08/2024 11:15

well but my situation is clearly special and exceptional.

randomchap · 19/08/2024 11:15

Maybe they spoke to the bride and groom beforehand and it was agreed. Do you know that it wasn't?

JabbaTheBeachHut · 19/08/2024 11:16

Why on earth would you ask permission to bring your baby to the car park, assuming the wedding or reception wasn't taking place in it? 😳

DeathNote11 · 19/08/2024 11:16

I was effectively barred from a wedding due to having an exclusively breast fed 6 week old. Fair enough, their choice, but I was vilified for not attending. Five years of having it raised & continually thrown in my face until they had a baby of their own & had a very similar experience. They started to avoid me after that incident. My baby is 17 years old now & they're still avoiding me, so don't hold your breath for an apology, even after they've learned the hard way.

I’m confused as to why they imagined they had control and say over what went on in the car park 🤷‍♀️

Or why the OP felt the need to ask them

Toddlerteaplease · 19/08/2024 11:21

Serves them right. Though I wouldn't have asked permission to feed in the car park. I'd have done it anyway.

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/08/2024 11:23

Presumably you have pointed out the irony of their ire….?

Yes, this is the oddity here.

The fact they were asked to leave indicates that they didn't.

distinctpossibility · 19/08/2024 11:25

I was the first to have a baby in my group of friends. By God it's been eye opening now my mates have followed suit. I don't bother reminding them of all the things they did / said to DH and me, what's the point? I've just let the friendships cool. Parenting is a great leveller but it also brings out all the dickheadery.

This too! Presumably the bride wasn’t patrolling the car park with a taser for incursions by unwanted babies…

BonnieBonnieBanks · 19/08/2024 11:26

I can’t believe people would actually ask someone to leave their wedding 😂 surely you just leave it and talk about their audacity behind their backs?!
