Labour Corruption?

574 replies

Zebedee999 · 18/08/2024 21:10

Labour took donations from the unions pre-election and are now giving pay rises to those same union's members with limited or no negotiations. Is this corruption?

YABU = Not corruption
YANBU = Corruption of sorts

Current ministers Cooper, Smith, Reeves, Alexander, Bryant all mired in financial scandal - that's just off the top of my head.

Rachel Reeves? Links, please.
Yvette Cooper and Ed Balls were cleared of wrongdoing around their expenses claim in 2008, and Yvette Cooper's donations from MLM were listed in the Members' Interests as being for office expenses.
Which Alexander are you talking about, Douglas or Heidi?
Jacqui Smith was let off with an apology after demonstrating that she received incorrect advice from parliamentary authorities and resigned over her husband's porn films - so she paid for her sins.
Chris Bryant flipped homes during the expenses scandal - as did dozens and dozens of others, and that was over a decade ago.

So unless you have links to anything current, you're on very shaky ground with this.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 20/08/2024 18:51

Blimey, the Labour Party governing in a way that benefits the labour force? Who'd'a thunk it. (Clue's in the name)

itsgettingweird · 20/08/2024 18:55

What amazes me is the amount of covering up that was done for the Tories over partygate "oh but he got the vaccines done"

The proven contracts for mates - but I get things like Moane are still being investigated.

The prisons telling they were reaching breaking point before the election.

All the strikes have been happening for 2 years before the election.

We've had 6 weeks of a Labour government who have seemingly solved 2 strikes and responded effectively to riots from people of every background.

I mean we don't know if they are going to be the wonderful solution yet.
But they have done nothing scandalous, they haven't crashed the economy and they haven't broken any parliamentary rules.
So far they've been better in 6 weeks of which most has been recess than we have had since at least 2019.

I'm wondering what it is people are scared of with giving them a chance.

Even when the stories were fucking up daily and publicly people were more defensive of them 😵‍💫

HowardTJMoon · 20/08/2024 18:56

@Zebedee999 you seem very triggered by people pointing out the numerous flaws in your arguments. Why is that?

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/08/2024 19:25

Even now SKS and his two tier justice that is applied particularly harshly to working class people.

This is bollocks. There is no two tier justice @Zebedee999. It's just the battle whine of rabid right wingers complaining when white English rioters are treated the same as black rioters and rioters from NI.🤷‍♀️

dottiehens · 20/08/2024 19:28

If the Tories were corrupted does not mean than Labour is not. We will have this every time. So Labour would get away as usual. What is becoming evident is that they lied to win the elections. Let’s see how far things go. At least some people are decent enough to point it out.

Perhaps I am naieve. To be honest asking the question I did has exposed me to so many insults, naieve is the tamest of the lot. It's odd why people are so triggered by a simple question they must resort to insults instead of reasoned debate. I have always been told that means your point is right when there is no reasoned debate only insults.

I don't think you understand the word triggered. When people try to explain to you why they don't agree with you about corruption you lob the word triggered in as if it will make their facts look silly.

It doesn't work like that.

itsgettingweird · 20/08/2024 20:05

Me too!!!

They haven't had a chance to or not to follow manifesto yet.

I think the funniest thing is when the GE was happening I said numerous times the thing I dread most is the fact that if Labour haven't fixed over a decade of public services cuts and revered the effects by the end of a month everyone would be up in arms.

Turns out - sometimes even I'm right 😂

dottiehens · 20/08/2024 19:32

Well you may be either not affected or not paying attention.

You see, this is all the Tory supporters have - veiled hints never followed up with anything of substance. I could respect a contention backed up with evidence, but we never get that - just smears, sneers and slurs.

SummerSplashing · 20/08/2024 20:06

LettuceLiz · 18/08/2024 21:17

Nothing will beat the corruption of the Conservative and Union party since 2010.

HTH.

@LettuceLiz

😩🙄🙄🙄. Have you thought about answering the question asked 🙄🙄

@Zebedee999

i don't know all the details, but it doesn't have good optics.

Shaky ground? Are you having a laugh? I would not accept that level of corruption from the Tories but I suppose for some it doesn't matter what's done, just who does it. Anyway, it all just keeps coming https://uk.news.yahoo.com/cash-jobs-scandal-minister-roasted-072744060.html but no doubt that's fine too.

'A Cash For Jobs Scandal': Minister Roasted Over Labour Donor Given Plum Treasury Post

Ian Corfield gave £20,000 to the party before the general election.

The trade unions have always been big donors to the Labour Party. Which really isn't surprising if you think about it!

But it's unfair to say that there haven't been negotiations about the pay settlements. Or that there won't be in the future.

Nothing to do with corruption.

(But sounds like this is - yet another- post from Tory HQ. Let it go!)

This is all very true.

mainly why I've stayed off the political threads since the election.

LatteLady · 20/08/2024 20:10

Unfortunately, the Conservative Government failed to engage with the Public Sector workers whose salaries had fallen way behind due to the austerity budget that they introduced. This means that the current Labour Government has to sort it out and I would think that it is not very fiscally pretty.

I have been a school governor for 30+ yrs and readily acknowledge how ill paid our teachers and especially our TAs are, the latter would earn more working in Tescos in just term time! My day job means I interact with doctors, I cannot even begin to understand how junior doctors have managed to survive in such inadequately paid positions.

So no OP, I do not think the Labour Government are corrupt, I think that they have been given a ruddy large shovel to deal with a bloody great pile of shit left by the previous incumbents.

I've just looked him up. He looks pretty qualified for the job to me. I mean, Stephen Timpson has also donated to the Labour party, so is he not allowed to hold a ministerial post which is eminently suited to his experience?

And if you would not accept that level of 'corruption' from the Tories, I'm assuming you didn't vote for them this year?

Exactly. Could it be that these Labour supporters donated to a party they believed in and then separately were recognised as being experts who could benefit the country?

I think we got so used to corruption in government some people are seeing it everywhere.

cardibach · 20/08/2024 20:25

Plus £20k wouldn’t buy you a cuppa with a Tory politician, never mind a ‘plum job’.

I've never voted Tory in my life. It is sheer corruption from Labour. I guarantee if it was the Tory party getting up to all this not a single person would be defending them and they've been damned for cronyism for appointing people equally as 'qualified'. Like I said, it's fine if it's done by your team.

There are a few posters saying Tory HQ is busy but it definitely looks more like Labour HQ are out tonight.

Getting up to all what? There were plenty of people attempting to defend the Tories with their VIP procurement channels and peerages for donors, not to mention Cameron’s peerage because they apparently couldn’t find anyone with ability to be Foreign Secretary among the hundreds of MPs they had at the time.

I'm talking about current Labour ministers and their financial scandals. Would you like me to link my recent post where I named some ministers? Obviously the discussion has moved on since then - I always find it helps to RTFT. At least you have no trouble understanding what the other posters referencing I suppose.

That would be pointless since all the ministers you named were either exonerated or apologised and resigned.
