Labour Corruption?

574 replies

Zebedee999 · 18/08/2024 21:10

Labour took donations from the unions pre-election and are now giving pay rises to those same union's members with limited or no negotiations. Is this corruption?

YABU = Not corruption
YANBU = Corruption of sorts

Oh dear. Using the story of a severely disabled child, a universal (not means tested ) allowance and his subsequent death is a new low for Mumsnet political discourse.

Union members freely give Labour party some money, they have to opt in to do so.
Are you against individuals giving a small amount of money to a political party? or is it only when its the Labour party?

Yet presumably all on board with Frank Hestor giving the Tories £20m or Cameron claiming DLA and using the NHS for his son when his net worth was £30m.

Hyprocrisy.

What makes you think I support the tories? No politician should be accepting gifts from organisations, or any other other than a token form private individuals. In any area there than politics is an absolute no go area. If there’s an intent to include it’s bribery.

I don’t see the link between a severally disabled child that meets the rules for DLA and Sir Kiers morally corrupt behaviour. Perhaps you could enlighten me.

I’d much rather have a PM with real life lived experience of public services than a PM who sees public service as a means to personal enrichment and status. I mean, a chauffer driven car to travel 4 miles when he was only a civil servant? Someone else to pay for your clothes and glasses. Free gear Kier is on record as saying he wouldn’t pay for private healthcare. I am sure however he would accept it if someone else paid. The man’s a grifter of the highest order, and his words about public service are sounding rather hollow now aren’t they.

Anti-bribery policy

Protect yourself and your business by putting in place an anti-bribery policy for those who work for you and on your behalf

Indeed. I get it though - Labour voters feel let down, and it’s difficult for them to accept that what many have been saying was in fact correct, so they lash out. And when backed into a corner their true colours inevitably show. The left is not as caring as they want you to believe - they are only caring on their terms.

A low blow indeed bringing a dead child into an argument though. Just offensive.

Zonder · 20/09/2024 07:31

I'm still struck by the idea that the shadow SoS has to declare events but not the SoS. I almost fancied Lucy Frazer's job with all the events she got to go to.

No its not, DC himself talked about his situation when it suited him, he made it public, often bring it as to why he is a fan of the NHS, whilst systematically underfunding it and then taking away DLA from people too.

Caring? so we cannot criticise a politician who has suffered ? that of course means Kier, whose mum had a debilitating condition: Stills disease but thats all ok because he is Free Kier Gear... un fucking believable.

Does anyone really think he waited for hours to see a therapist no cancelled appoints etc? standing room only in the waiting room? Real life experience, no, he would have been treated like royalty within the NHS.

My DD has people who have waited 3 years to see a therapist and these are people with very severe conditions: NMD, Parkinsons, Strokes, various acquired brain injury.
All as a result of people like you and their voting choices, caring indeed.

You mean the pay rises for public sector workers such as nurses and teachers that were reccomended by the independent pay review bodies set up by the Conservatives???

Zonder · 20/09/2024 08:21

@iwishihadknownmore good point. DC did talk about his situation plenty.

@Notthisone well put.

Firstly, you have no idea how I voted, but I can guarantee it's not the way you think, so please park your judgemental prejudices and apologise, if you are big enough

Secondly, I didn't say that one couldn't criticise a politician. But I strongly believe that its morally repugnant to use an ill / dead child to make a political point, and doing so says far more about you than it does about me

And your language also speaks volumes about you

BIossomtoes · 20/09/2024 09:25

So do I. It’s shameful that child’s own father did it, isn’t it?

As I keep saying, I am not arguing from any political point of view, because I don't believe in tribal politics. My view is that when (which wasn't often) he did speak about his child it was authentic, but you of course are free to take a different view.. Which is inevitably tinted by your tribal approach to politics :)

Cameron claiming DLA and using the NHS for his son when his net worth was £30m

The New Statesman estimated Cameron's wealth as £3.2m in 2009, the year his son died. Your estimate appears to include wider family wealth, much of it belonging to his father-in-law who is still alive - not to mention that Samantha Cameron has four siblings/half siblings born to her father.

My approach to politics is far from tribal. I wouldn’t be so pissed off with the current government or so enamoured of John Major if it was. I’m pretty impressed with the LibDems at the moment despite Davey’s use of his son as political capital.

Clavinova · 20/09/2024 10:50

The Starmers are worth at least £3 million - perhaps they shouldn't be using the NHS or state schools for their children?

DuncinToffee · 20/09/2024 12:19

I can well imagine your posts if they had sent their children to private school, Clav Wink

According to MN, that kind of money doesn't get you very far in London.....

Of course they should. They pay enough tax.

I would suggest you are somewhat tribal - John Major is often labelled as a "Remoaner" - therefore you all have anti-Brexit sentiments in common.

And of course the Starmers can't win no matter what they do.

If they send their kids private (because they can afford it) they're out of touch, elitist, scorning the state sector.

If they send their kids state, they're using up resources that they don't need.

Tory hypocrisy always wins.

I didn't post what Major actually said out of politeness Grin

He said critics might brand him a "bitter old Remoaner"

He was claiming non-means tested benefits. I don’t have the slightest problem with that.

I have huge problems with Cameron. He claimed everything he could and then pulled the rug out from under disabled people with benefit cuts that hit them harder than anyone else. The axing of the Independent Living Fund was particularly awful. The man was a huge hypocrite.

Oh, I do, too. I can’t believe anyone with a disabled child could be so cruel.
