Labour Corruption?

Zebedee999 · 18/08/2024 21:10

Labour took donations from the unions pre-election and are now giving pay rises to those same union's members with limited or no negotiations. Is this corruption?

YABU = Not corruption
YANBU = Corruption of sorts

I am not playing your numbers game. It's not about the numbers.

You are deflecting from the actual point of how people in the UK ended up being poisoned with hate for foreigners.

Edited

Of course not because you know you couldn't persuade people it's ok despite the 'narrative' claims.

No matter how much it's not an issue for you it is for others. And it is for Labour which is why they are going with the 'deportation' headlines.

And in any case it doesnt take much more than a headline such 800 arrive and an image of an overpacked boat, plus a few deaths. Unless you suppress any of that people will react and put pressure on politicians to resolve it.

DuncinToffee · 25/08/2024 15:56

But while we're at it any answer to whether you would take a male entering via channel crossing as a carer for your dc?

Why would the manner of entry make someone unsuitable for a job?

Why do people answer with a question?

Is that a yes then you'd take someone based on the asylum process alone as it scrutinises people enough

No references or other vetting

People can do that as long as it's not in a racist riot way.

pointythings · 25/08/2024 16:06

EasternStandard · 25/08/2024 15:50

That wasn't to you and I did answer

But while we're at it any answer to whether you would take a male entering via channel crossing as a carer for your dc?

As asked ages ago when you said they had been scrutinised enough

My DC don't need carers.
But provided they had the right qualifications and training and had gone through whatever UK system of checks was in place prior to starting - absolutely yes. I also have nothing against male nursery workers, or male primary school teachers.

Once they are granted asylum, they are vetted for the job in the same way as a British born maleConfused

So yes to your question.

Would you be happy with a doctor who has been granted asylum? Or a teacher?

EasternStandard · 25/08/2024 16:08

Has anyone taken on a Syrian male without background info bar asylum process to look after their dc?

Perhaps you all have.

Or even taken someone into their home? Or is more internet related than reality

I haven't, because my DC don't need carers.
I haven't taken anyone into my home because I have no resources to do so.
How is a Syrian male from a refugee background any different from a British male going into his first care job?

For me references, I doubt I could obtain anything from Syria from previous employees. I'd also prefer the level of vetting Aus does for anyone applying to for a passport (and possibly visa) which asks for a police certificate prior to entry.

Ah but do you have anything against foreign male nursery workers, or male primary school teachers @pointythings ? I think that's what is really being asked here.

If the hypothetical 'Syrian male' had an enhanced DBS and appropriate childcare experience there's no reason why they couldn't IMO

You are incorrect, I live in SE London by choice and happily so

See pp on what I'd want to employ a carer or invite someone into my home

Have you taken in anyone to your home?

I don't think 'Syrian males' are fictitious are they? Do they need air quotes, they do exist.

The pp made the claim the asylum process was enough scrutiny, so just on that I'd say it's not enough.

The asylum process doesn't include DBS checks, references and appropriate childcare interviews

So it's not enough scrutiny is it?

If your requirements in terms of background checking would be the same for any carer coming into your home, irrespective of sex, nationality, residence status in the UK etc. then I have no problem with you setting your standards. If you are applying different standards to certain classes of people, then that would tell me a great deal about you.

'Would you take an asylum seeker into your home' is not a rational standard by which to measure someone's attitude - it's a right wing attempt at a cheap gotcha.

Your claim was the asylum process was scrutiny enough.

It was your standard not mine.

I questioned that and since people are adding other conditions then I'd say it was a fair assessment. It's not enough even if it is a lengthy process, you'd need other more rigorous checks

Nothing to do with 'right wing' or riots or whatever irrelevance

You'd all want more than the asylum process which was my question

The asylum process doesn't include DBS checks, references and appropriate childcare interviews

So it's not enough scrutiny is it?

When someone comes into a country and is granted asylum, one would hope that they would then have support and training to go into a career that suits their skill set - whether that be the international nurse programme, its medical equivalent or a child/adult care qualification is irrelevant. After that, as long as they went through the same process of requirements and checks as a British person, there isn't a problem. Is there?

Nobody is advocating just taking someone straight off the boat and setting them to work in a care home. That would be stupid and unproductive.

Enhanced DBS check and appropriate skills are the minimum for being employed in this role whatever the the person's sex or background - including 'Syrian males' so no difference

BIossomtoes · 25/08/2024 16:29

What’s with this obsession about having an asylum seeker in your house? What’s that got to do with anything? If this country had always taken its current attitude we’d have missed out on Mo Farah, Freddy Mercury and countless other asylum seekers who have contributed to our culture. There are trained healthcare professionals awaiting processing right now at the same time as we have a healthcare crisis.
